Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the study was the assessment of the influence of MLS laser therapy on morphological changes in nailfold videocapillaroscopy (NVC), clinical features, and the serum NO level in patients with primary and secondary Raynaud’s phenomenon (RP). Materials and methods: The analysis was performed on a group of 78 patients with RP and 30 healthy volunteers, who underwent NVC examination. NO concentration was assayed using the Griess method in blood serum before and after 3-weeks of laser biostimulation. MLS wasperformed with a Laser-M6 ASA Company device, for 3 weeks with weekend breaks, using thefollowing parameters: a frequency of 1500 Hz, adose of 25 J/cm2, and a time of 2.5 minutes on onehand. Results: After 3 weeks of MLS laser therapy, thebeneficial clinical effects manifested by a decrease of duration and number of RP attacks and degree of pain score on the visual analogue scale (VAS) in patients with primary and secondary RP. Clinical improvement after MLS laser therapy was reflected in the assessment of microcirculation disorders in NVC examination. Moreover, the tendency of normalization of NO concentration in the serum of patients with primary and secondary RP may suggest a favorable effect of laser biostimulation on the regulation of processes taking part in microcirculation disorders. Conclusions: The results showed that NVC is a useful diagnostic tool in the evaluation of dynamic microvascular involvement in RP patients. MLS laser therapy has a beneficial effect in patients with primary and secondary Raynaud’s phenomenon

Opis:
The objective of this study was to estimate a herd-level seroprevalence of bovine herpesvirus type 1 (BHV-1) in herds with clinical symptoms of the respiratory tract. Eighty-three herds with suspected BHV-1 infection were selected and divided into two categories with respect to their size: small (n=27) and large herds (n=56). Samples were collected from calves, heifers and cows older than 24 months. Seroprevalence was determined using the gB ELISA test. The herd level seroprevalence was estimated as 53% (44/83) in the tested herds, 11.1% (3/27) in the small herds and 73.2% (41/56) in the large herds. Our study suggests that the current biosecurity measures still warrant improvement.

Opis:
We present combined X-ray powder diffraction and Mössbauer $\text{}^{119}Sn$ studies of polycrystalline compounds with a general formula $Zn_xSn_yCr_zSe_4$ (where x+y+z ≈3). The obtained single-phase compounds crystallize in the spinel cubic structure - Fd3m. Tin ions are found to occupy both tetrahedral and octahedral sublattices. On the contrary to the strong tetrahedral site preference energy of Sn, the presented data strongly suggest that the increase in lattice parameters with Sn doping is caused by Sn ions that incorporated into octahedral positions. A quadrupole and isomer shifts of $\text{}^{119}Sn$ in $(SnSe_4)^{6-}$ and $(SnSe_6)^{4-}$ are also reported.

Opis:
Introduction: Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) is one of the most common autoimmune thyroid disorders and o the most common cause of hypothyroidism, but the relation between TSH and body mass is still unclear. Material and methods: The group studied consisted of 53 patients with HT in euthyreosis and 28 healthy individuals. All the patients underwent thyroid ultrasonography and body mass analysis with the use of a medical analyzer INBODY 200. Blood samples were also analyzed for TSH and anti-thyroid antibodies. Results: The patients with HT had higher body mass (p=0.008), body mass index (BMI) (p=0.02), Waist-Hip Ratio (WHR) (0.01) and fat mass (p=0.02) than had the controls. In HT group increased body mass was observed in 72% of the patients (overweight in 38% and obesity in 35% of them), as compared with 38% of overweight/obesity in the control group. Thyroid volume was significantly lower (p=0.01) and anti-peroxidase antibodies level was two times higher in the group with the treatment period > 2 years, but the patients with relatively short treatment period were 7 kg heavier and their fat mass was 6 kg higher than in the subjects treated longer than 2 years. Conclusions: Our results suggest that the patients with HT, even in euthyreosis, have significantly higher body mass, BMI, WHR and fat mass than healthy individuals, which is probably associated with previous disturbances that led to the increase in fat mass at the stage of hypothyroidism. The observed changes tend to normalize during L-thyroxine replacement therapy.
