Opis:
The paper presents some preliminary findings on the role of consumer knowledge in cultural event sponsorships. Using a field design, the impact of consumer knowledge on the brand image transfer wasmeasured. Two international cultural events were examined and a total of 853 respondents participated in this study. The Kruskall-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests were performed to determine whether there were any differences in brand image transfer between experts (‘high-knowledge’ spectators) and novices (‘low-knowledge’ spectators). The results reveal that image-building effects in cultural event sponsorship are considerably less pronounced if event spectators are highly knowledgeable about an event and its sponsoring brand. The findings indicate to what extent a brand may thrive on event sponsorship and how important it is to track current market segmentation and brand positioning.

Opis:
There is an increasing interest in effective methods for building consumer involvement on a mass scale. This paper offers an interdisciplinary theoretical framework for consumer involvement analysis and forwards an anthropological approach to this issue. It uses categories of play and communitas to examine cultural dynamics underlying consumer involvement. It summarizes and extends theoretical understanding of the topic and provides numerous examples from contemporary marketplace such as Heineken Open’er Festival and Volkswagen ‘Fun Theory’ initiative. Several research propositions are formulated for future empirical endeavors and implications for practice are defined.

Opis:
A series of experiments was run in order to evaluate the usability of two different measurement approaches: ratings and ranks (pairwise comparisons). Respondents were asked to assess perceived characteristics (i.e. height and length) of different physical objects by using either a rating or a ranking scale. An artificial neural network model was built to analyse the ranks and standard statistical tests were applied to analyse the ratings. The results were then statistically compared with actual (real) characteristics of objects (i.e. their real height and length). Both systems for measuring values were found equally valid in projecting reality. Such findings offer some methodological and epistemological insights, as they provide information on the measurement power of each scale in terms of approximating real-life phenomena.
Celem badania była ocena użyteczności dwóch różnych skal pomiarowych (ratingowej i rangowej, czyli tzw. porównań parami) w zakresie aproksymacji rzeczywistych zjawisk. W celu analizy wyników skali rangowej zbudowano model sztucznej sieci neuronowej, natomiast do zanalizowania rezultatów skali ratingowej zastosowano standardowe testy statystyczne.

Opis:
Introduction. Diabetes is a growing social and epidemiological problem. Accordingly, the incidence of complications associated with diabetes can cause a persistent high percentage of diseases of the cardiovascular system, kidney and nervous systems, and impaired vision. Objective. The aim of the study was to evaluate the incidence of immunological markers in patients with type 1 diabetes and those with type 2 diabetes: the anti-GAD, ANA, AMA, ASMA, APCA and LKM, compared to healthy people. Another objective of the study was to evaluate the correlation between their presence and the degree of metabolic control in both groups. Materials and methods. The study comprised 100 subjects aged 25–75 years with a body mass index (BMI) between 20–30 kg / m2, hospitalized in the Department of Internal Diseases, Diabetology and Endocrinology, at the Medical University of Warsaw, with previously diagnosed diabetes who were assigned to one of 2 groups (50 subjects with type 1 diabetes and 50 subjects with type 2 diabetes). The control group consisted of 21 healthy individuals without the diagnosis of diabetes and a prediabetic state. All the study participants had the examined antibodies determined along with the panel of biochemical tests and neurological examination for diabetic neuropathy and fundus examination. Results. Anti-GAD antibodies were present in both groups of patients. Their presence was found in 30% of people with type 1 diabetes and in 16% of people with diabetes type 2. The presence of ANA antibodies was found in 24% of people with type 1 diabetes and 22% of people with type 2 diabetes. There was no correlation between the presence of ANA antibodies ANA and duration of diabetes. In the group of patients with type 1 diabetes, there was a correlation between the presence of ANA and the incidence of diabetic polyneuropathy. ASMA and APCA antibodies occurred with equal frequency in both studied groups (4% vs. 10%). There were no antibodies of AMA or anti-LKM in any of the patients. Conclusions. Marking of ANA antibodies in patients with type 1 diabetes may be a marker used to isolate a group of patients at risk of developing diabetic neuropathy. The presence of anti-GAD in type 2 diabetes may be a LADA marker which specifically marks the group of patients with type 2 diabetes, in whom there is a faster metabolic death of beta cells. The current classification of diabetes is vague, and in the near future it should be modified based on specific patient characteristics, phenotypic appearance, as well as the results of additional tests. Determination of antibodies AMA, ASMA, APCA and anti-LKM does not seem to be significant in the diagnosis of diabetes and its chronic complications.

Opis:
At the beginning of the year 2016, the representatives of the Polish Radon Centre decided to organize proficiency tests (PTs) for measurements of radon gas and radon decay products in the air, involving radon monitors and laboratory passive techniques. The Silesian Centre for Environmental Radioactivity of the Central Mining Institute (GIG), Katowice, became responsible for the organization of the PT exercises. The main reason to choose that location was the radon chamber in GIG with a volume of 17 m3 , the biggest one in Poland. Accordingly, 13 participants from Poland plus one participant from Germany expressed their interest. The participants were invited to inform the organizers about what types of monitors and methods they would like to check during the tests. On this basis, the GIG team prepared the proposal for the schedule of exercises, such as the required level(s) of radon concentrations, the number and periods of tests, proposed potential alpha energy concentration (PAEC) levels and also the overall period of PT. The PT activity was performed between 6th and 17th June 2016. After assessment of the results, the agreement between radon monitors and other measurement methods was confirmed. In the case of PAEC monitors and methods of measurements, the results of PT exercises were consistent and confirmed the accuracy of the calibration procedures used by the participants. The results of the PAEC PTs will be published elsewhere; in this paper, only the results of radon intercomparison are described.
