Opis:
The purpose of this article is to evaluate if cryptocurrencies that have robust technology and anonymous features can be the money of the future. In this study, the transition phases of paper money, which started to be used at the beginning of the 17th century, to bank money, then banknotes and fiat money were examined. By pointing out that the fiat money system has developed within the conditions of humanity's search for democracy and freedom. It has been stated that fiat money can only be successful in democratic systems where institutions operate freely, and therefore fiat money is an instrument of democracy. It has been concluded that the authoritarian tendencies, which have started in the world since the 21st century due to nationalism, migration, and climate change, are an important factor in the widespread use of cryptocurrencies. It has been concluded that the spread of cryptocurrencies is directly dependent on the democratic practices of countries and if authoritarianism rises, the use of cryptocurrencies will inevitably be more.

Opis:
The study aims to evaluate the initial public offering performance of Borsa Istanbul companies during the hot and cold periods. The size of the companies, industry concentration and investor optimism are considered in this respect.  The study covers the 119 IPOs of various sizes from different industries between 2010 and 2017 just after the global financial crisis. The standard event study methodology is applied. This study has revealed the existence of post-crisis underpricing effects in Turkey. Moreover, the research shows that although low pricing is valid in hot periods, hot and cold markets do not differ significantly from each other in this context. Besides, this study finds that the low price effect exists for small firms, and this effect is more common in hot markets. On the other hand, although there is a relationship between consumer confidence index and low price, no relation with industry concentration was found.

Opis:
Aim: Provide a summary of the expressed views, presentations and discussions during the ISINI14 (2020) online conference. Design: Next to rather traditional but this time online presentations, the discussions not only took place by way of oral communication, but also via an online tool. The administrators of the conference prepared in a word-processing programme a framework, where the participants could enter issues, questions and comments in real time, and react to each others writings. These issues, questions and comments were also discussed orally. The results of the exchange of new ideas are presented below, and should provide an impulse for further discussion at  ISINI online meetings in the future. Findings: In order to achieve sustainable development, protect democratic values and empower citizens in different countries with a different institutional setting, a sound balance between open markets and sound regulation should be struck at various levels. Global and regional (EU) cooperationis needed for solving challenges to sustainable development – e.g. in relation to unexpected events such as the COVID-19 pandemic and  climate (change) as a kind of public good.
