Lusatian culture cemetery

Opis:
In 2004-2006, excavations were continued at the biritual cemetery of the Częstochowa-Gliwice sub-group of the Upper Silesian-Little Poland group of the Lusatian culture at Zbrojewsko site 3. An area of 9.8 ares were uncovered and 64 objects were explored. In 2004-2005, the research aimed to catch the northern boundary of the cemetery. It was confirmed that in the north-western the border of the cemetery constitutes the valley of a small stream. However, the research failed to find the north-eastern boundary, although objects recorded in this area were not so numerous. Graves dated at the fourth period of the Bronze Age still dominated there. In 2006, excavations were carried out on the southern outskirts of the cemetery, at the edge of the first terrace level of the Liswarta River. The discovery of 31 graves confirmed previous suspicions that in this area there may be another large concentration of graves from the youngest Bronze Age, analogous to those already identified in the northern and western parts of the cemetery. Among the objects studied there were 23 cremation graves (usually pit graves), and seven or eight skeletal ones (one perhaps symbolical). Most of the graves had stone structures. Two urn graves can be dated to the fourth period of the Bronze Age, while all the other graves, discovered in 2006, to the fifth period.

In this pa per we de scribe a fos sil gra ben and as so ci ated nor mal faults and joints. The gra ben is situ ated in the sec tion of the Vis tulian (Wei chse lian) and Holo cene sedi ments in an ar chaeo logi cal ex ca va tion site at Brzezie, in the cen tral part of the Pol ish Car pa thian Fore deep (Wieliczka- Gdów Up land, west ern part of the San dom ierz Ba sin). Nor mal faults strike mostly NNE–SSW and dip steeply about 65–85°. Some of them, namely mas ter nor mal faults, bound the fos sil gra ben. The joints form or thogo nal pat tern and are closely spaced close to the faults. They de vel oped si mul ta ne ously with fault ing. Nor mal fault ing took place dur ing the Vis tulian – Meso holo cene (Neo holo cene?) time, ac cord ing to the age of ar chaeo logi cal ar te facts which were found in the faulted sedi ments. The fault ing was proba bly fin ished dur ing the Neo lithic or even later, dur ing the Bronze Age. The NNE- striking nor mal faults con nected with gra ben for ma tion could have been pro duced by re ac ti va tion of a NE- striking sin is tral re gional fault in the base ment.

Opis:
In the seasons 2004 and 2006, interdisciplinary researches at the settlement of the early phase of Eastern Linear Pottery Culture at Moravany were continued. Archaeological excavations have limited spatial dimension compared to previous seasons, as a priority in the years 2004-2006 was the completion of the palaeoeconomic, paleoenvironmental and chronological analyses. I.a. 14 new radiocarbon dates were obtained. In conjunction with the absolute dates obtained previously and with typological evidence it gives rise to dating of the settlement for a period between about 5500 and 5300/5200 BC.

Opis:
The Suchedniów water reservoir is located in the central section of the River Kamionka in the northern part of the Holy Cross Mountains of central Poland. This area once belonged to the Old Polish Industrial District that, during the Middle Ages, was very intensively developed by iron metallurgy. Many forges and mills along the rivers used water power, which led to the construction of an anthropogenic, small-scale water retention system. At the beginning of the twentieth century many of these reservoirs were drained after the collapse of metallurgical activities. The present-day reservoir was built in 1974 and drained in 2017. Research into the drained basin has documented various forms and sediments, some of which record present-day depositional processes (fire proof clay layer, inland fan delta), while others represent the historical period (lacustrine sediments of older reservoirs). Traces of catastrophic events have been preserved as well; an assemblage of megaripples marks the sudden drainage caused by a dam break in 1974.
