Picone's identity
Opis:
In the paper, a Picone-type identity for the weighted p-polyharmonic operator is established and comparison theorems and other qualitative results for a class of half-linear partial differential equations of the 4mth order based on this identity are derived.

Opis:
We consider n-dimensional cyclic systems of second order differential equations $(p_i(t)|x_i^\prime |^{\alpha_i - 1} x_i^\prime )^\prime = q_i(t) |x_{i+q}|^{\beta_i -1} x_{i+1}, i= 1, ..., n, \ \ (x_{n+1} = x_1) \ \ (\ast) $ under the assumption that the positive constants $\alpha_i $ and $ \beta_i $ satisfy $ \alpha_1 ... \alpha_n > \beta_1 ... \beta_n $ and $p_i(t)$ and $q_i(t)$ are regularly varying functions, and analyze positive strongly increasing solutions of system (*) in the framework of regular variation. We show that the situation for the existence of regularly varying solutions of positive indices for (*) can be characterized completely, and moreover that the asymptotic behavior of such solutions is governed by the unique formula describing their order of growth precisely. We give examples demonstrating that the main results for (*) can be applied to some classes of partial differential equations with radial symmetry to acquire accurate information about the existence and the asymptotic behavior of their radial positive strongly increasing solutions.

Opis:
Drying of food is perhaps the oldest method of food preservation. The aim of this study the analysis of the effect of changing the slope angle of trays in a tunnel dryer model on the drying rate. Real experiments were carried out for trays’ slopes of 0, 5, 10 and 15°. Carrots’ cubes were dried at a constant temperature of 60°C, with air flow velocity of 1.2 m/s. Also this process was simulated using the COMSOL Multiphysics 4.3 software. The research results showed that increasing slope angle of tray disrupted the laminar flow of the dried cubes layer through the drying air stream and forced the partial air flow through the layer. Thus, the contact surface of the heated air with the material particles and the drying rate have been increased and made it possible to shorten the duration of the drying.

Opis:
The objective of this study was to characterise the quality of giant pumpkin dried in different conditions as well as to determine the best combination(s) of drying conditions, based on colour and chemical composition of dried material. Samples of three pumpkin cultivars (Amazonka, Justynka- 957 and Ambar) were dried at five different temperatures (40°C, 50°C, 60°C, 70°C, 80°C) using three different drying methods (forced convection in tunnel dryer, natural convection in chamber dryer and hybrid drying which combined a tunnel drying and fluidized-bed drying). It has been shown that variability of samples resulted primarily from the redness, yellowness, lutein and β-carotene. Samples were scored based on the range of responses identified by factor analysis in order to find an optimal combination of cultivar, temperature and drying method. The three subsequent highest scores were obtained for samples of Ambar cultivar, dried using hybrid drying at 40, 60 and 80°C respectively.
