Esperanto is a planned international auxiliary language, constructed by L.L. Zamenhof and published in 1887. Although created to facilitate international communication, it has become a tool of self-identification. This paper aims to describe language attitudes formed in the Esperanto speech community and to demonstrate that these attitudes shape the community.
Esperanto jest planowym międzynarodowym językiem pomocniczym, skonstruowanym przez L.L. Zamenhofa i wydanym w 1887 r. Mimo że został stworzony, aby ułatwić komunikację międzynarodową, stał się narzędziem samoidentyfikacji. Niniejszy artykuł ma na celu opisanie postaw językowych, które formują się w esperanckiej wspólnocie językowej oraz wykazanie, że te postawy kształtują tę społeczność.

Social policy has the ideal of cohesion and inclusiveness of all citizens, but it has to “play” an active role in creating opportunities for them. It encopmasses in itself primarily a balance between economic efficiency and social solidarity distribution, and strives towards a  consensual social model in which the government and the opposition generally agree on the fundamental priorities of society.              Starting from July 1st, 2013, Croatia has been a member of the European Union. What experiences can that country bring to European Union? In spite  of the differences between the European countries becoming more and more expressed and bigger, there is a common element: a conscience that  social justice and social reconciliation could contribute to an economical development and that are not just an expense; but the  opposite: an economical development that  must contribute to social reconciliation.              In the process of the preparation for this work and during the process of  its realization, I used the methods of reading a lot of literature, including professional books, professional journals and legislation literature. Social policy has been for years one of my major fields of interest, so some facts I knew already.              My research goal is to examine the development so far of the social policy in Croatia, to detect the most important conditions which are necessary to develop  high-quality social policies, to discover which are strong sides, and which are weak sides of the Croatian social policy, and therefore what is important to strongly develop, and what is redundant and/or old-fashioned, to throw away or neglect.

Opis:
The existence of language varieties has a considerable impact on communication. They influence the interaction between language users from various centres due to the number of linguistic differences observed on the level of phonetics, spelling, grammar, lexis, and pragmatics. On the one hand, pluricentric languages connect people from various centres by using the “same” language, and on the other hand, they separate them by developing national norms. This article aims to demonstrate the importance of teaching language varieties in foreign language classes because the knowledge of national norms of pluricentric languages is essential in communication with people from various centres. Both English and German are pluricentric languages. Advanced language users should be aware of the differences between language varieties and be able to use the appropriate variety according to the communicative situation. The research undertaken in this article is meant to verify the undergraduate students’ knowledge of English and German varieties, emphasising terminology used in everyday life and their abilities to communicate in languages other than English or German.

Some problems concerning to Liouville distribution and framed \(f\)-structures are studied on the normal bundle of the lifted Finsler foliation to its normal bundle. It is shown that the Liouville distribution of transversally Finsler foliations is an integrable one and some natural framed \(f(3,\varepsilon)\)-structures of corank 2 exist on the normal bundle of the lifted Finsler foliation.

This essay draws upon the contention that posthuman subjects, such as androids, clones, and robots, can experience psychological trauma. The aim of the paper is to examine this notion in three science fiction texts: Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, and Ursula Le Guin’s short story ‘Nine Lives’. What these narratives illustrate is that trauma manifestations contribute to a disruption of ontological frameworks that regard categories such as ‘human’ and ‘non-human’ as permanent and distinct. As a result, it might be argued that these texts undermine anthropocentrism and invite a reconceptualising around the term ‘human’, but also around trauma as an experience that is conventionally understood as a primarily human experience. Science fiction is thereby a significant genre when it comes to debunking anthropocentric perspectives. Using posthuman theory and trauma studies, I argue here that these three texts portray their respective posthuman subjects as trauma victims, and further that they demonstrate how the experience of trauma carries with it the potential to bridge the gap between human and posthuman through the act of bearing witness to one another’s trauma.

The paper examines the rhetorical use and function of a provocative “rebel” persona in argumentative texts, collected from the youth column in Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten and the national speech contest for high school students, Ta ordet!, seeking to influence the audience’s attitudes towards green lifestyles. Approaching “the rebel” as a persona construction and a rhetorical appeal, I explore how young people engage with and participate in environmental debates and how their rhetorical intervention invites the audience to experience and perform environmental citizenship.
W artykule przedstawiono retoryczne zastosowanie konstruktu prowokacyjnej persony buntownika. Funkcje tego zabiegu zostały odtworzone na podstawie analizy tekstów argumentacyjnych z kolumny prowadzonej przez młodzież w norweskim dzienniku „Aftenposten” oraz materiały z konkursu krasomówczego dla uczniów szkół średnich Ta ordet!. Ich celem było nakłonienie odbiorców do przyjęcia zielonego stylu życia. Analiza posłużyła również do zbadania, jak młodzi ludzie angażują się w debatę publiczną o środowisku i jak ich retoryczne zaangażowanie włącza odbiorców do współuczestniczenia w ekologicznym obywatelstwie.

This paper deals with the noun-preposition [N PP] construction in Croatian and compares the construction to its counterparts in English and French. Noun – preposition relations are analyzed as grammatical relations which participate in the formation of the lexicon, i.e. as grammatical devices which are productively used as lexicalization patterns. Based on the corpus analysis, [N PP] constructions in Croatian are identified and contrasted to English and French data. Lexical status of multi-word units in Croatian is discussed, as well as the level of idiomaticity of these constructions as compared to English and French. Whereas French and Croatian employ a similar lexicalization pattern, English uses compounding. The lexicon – grammar continuum is thus observed from the perspective of syntactic structures participating in word-formation.

The renowned status of philosophy and its significant historical tradition indicate there is a great value in the field and that it should be studied. Nonetheless, philosophers often find themselves being asked about the value of philosophy. On most occasions, the value in question is an instrumental value, concerned with the requirement for the study merely to yield some practical results. Another way of approaching the problem is to ask about the value of philosophy in itself. We call this an intrinsic value of something or value that is not a means for acquiring something else. In this paper, we will argue that the worth of philosophy lies in its ability to teach the human mind how to think. Our argument will account for both instrumental and intrinsic values of the study. We will also show that the argument holds regardless of what account about the nature of philosophy we adopt.

Opis:
This study proposes a method that combines Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) feature extraction and Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) classification to resolve the challenges of concrete crack monitoring. The purpose of the study is to address the common issue of overfitting in machine learning models. The research uses a dataset of 40,000 images of concrete cracks and HOG feature extraction to identify relevant patterns. Classification is performed using the ensemble method XGBoost, with a focus on optimizing its hyperparameters. This study evaluates the efficacy of XGBoost in comparison to other ensemble methods, such as Random Forest and AdaBoost. XGBoost outperforms the other algorithms in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score, as demonstrated by the results. The proposed method obtains an accuracy of 96.95% with optimized hyperparameters, a recall of 96.10%, a precision of 97.90%, and an F1-score of 97%. By optimizing the number of trees hyperparameter, 1200 trees yield the greatest performance. The results demonstrate the efficacy of HOG-based feature extraction and XGBoost for accurate and dependable classification of concrete fractures, overcoming the overfitting issues that are typically encountered in such tasks.

The study presented in the article therefore sets out to explore English Language Teaching (ELT) and German Language Teaching (GLT) coursebook packages available for use in Hungarian secondary education in terms of their print and digital components, shedding light on the ways in which publishers are trying to keep pace with freestanding digital materials. The Green Image has become one of the success indicators for various organizations including educational institutions. The Green Image is believed to improve the overall reputation of an organization and is hoped to have an impact on behavioral intentions of stakeholders. In the context of higher education in Indonesia, the green campus competition has been increasingly popular and something to look forward to. This study investigated the impact of the Green Image on university reputation and student satisfaction through multiple regression analysis. The respondents of this research were 441 students from several major universities in Indonesia selected through convenience sampling. The results of the study show that the Green Image influences university reputation and student satisfaction. University reputation is proven to mediate the effect of the Green Image towards student satisfaction. The results of the study are expected to fill in the gap in the literature of the Green Image in the context of the education sector and to be a reference for universities in pursuing and managing green reputation and enhancing student satisfaction.
