Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the study was the assessment of the influence of MLS laser therapy on morphological changes in nailfold videocapillaroscopy (NVC), clinical features, and the serum NO level in patients with primary and secondary Raynaud’s phenomenon (RP). Materials and methods: The analysis was performed on a group of 78 patients with RP and 30 healthy volunteers, who underwent NVC examination. NO concentration was assayed using the Griess method in blood serum before and after 3-weeks of laser biostimulation. MLS wasperformed with a Laser-M6 ASA Company device,for 3 weeks with weekend breaks, using thefollowing parameters: a frequency of 1500 Hz, adose of 25 J/cm2, and a time of 2.5 minutes on onehand. Results: After 3 weeks of MLS laser therapy, thebeneficial clinical effects manifested by a decrease of duration and number of RP attacks and degree of pain score on the visual analogue scale (VAS) in patients with primary and secondary RP. Clinical improvement after MLS laser therapy was reflected in the assessment of microcirculation disorders in NVC examination. Moreover, the tendency of normalization of NO concentration in the serum of patients with primary and secondary RP may suggest a favorable effect of laser biostimulation on the regulation of processes taking part in microcirculation disorders. Conclusions: The results showed that NVC is a useful diagnostic tool in the evaluation of dynamic microvascular involvement in RP patients. Increased competition on the global market forces producers to follow policies leading to finite production runs. This situation requires implementation of a new type of inspection procedures with the aim to improve or sustain production quality levels. One of the most important aspects in the design of inspection processes is the specification of inspection intervals. This paper provides a simple procedure to determine an approximate optimal inspection interval h for a given inspection plan, characterized by its probability of type-I error a and probability of type-II error β, for processes with finite run length.

Opis:
Problems of water supply to seaside/resort localities are considered in the paper. The main task is to supply water of proper quality and amount at seasonal fluctuations in the demand. The paper focuses on the operation of water supply systems in the following localities of Central Pomerania: Mielno, Unieście, Mielenko, Sarbinowo, and Chłopy. They are main summer resorts of the region with typical fluctuation in population during the annual cycles affecting the amount of water supply. The atmospheric conditions, mainly temperature, generally affect the magnitude of water demand. The water-pipe system under consideration forms a very interesting technical solution for supplying both administration-industrial agglomeration, that is the municipal system, and localities lying in the seaside strip characteristic. The water intake is located in Mostowo which lies 19 km away from the main city centre of Koszalin.

Opis:
Dust generated at an electric arc furnace during steel production industry is still not a solved problem. Electric arc furnace dust (EAF) is a hazardous solid waste. Sintering of well-prepared briquetted mixtures in a shaft furnace is one of possible methods of EAFD utilisation. Simultaneously some metal oxides from exhaust gases can be separated. In this way, various metals are obtained, particularly zinc is recovered. As a result, zinc-free briquettes are received with high iron content which can be used in the steelmaking process. The purpose of the research was selecting the appropriate chemical composition of briquettes of the required strength and coke content necessary for the reduction of zinc oxide in a shaft furnace. Based on the results of the research the composition of the briquettes was selected. The best binder hydrated lime and sugar molasses and the range of proper moisture of mixture to receive briquettes of high mechanical strength were also chosen and tested. Additionally, in order to determine the thermal stability for the selected mixtures for briquetting thermal analysis was performed. A technological line of briquetting was developed to apply in a steelworks.

We present a systematic study of late Paleocene macrofauna from methane seep carbonates and associated driftwood in the shallow marine Basilika Formation, Spitsbergen, Svalbard. The fauna is composed of 22 taxa, comprising one brachiopod, 14 bivalves, three gastropods, three crustaceans, and one bony fish. The reported fish remains are among the first vertebrate body fossils from the Paleogene of Spitsbergen. One genus is new: the munidid decapod Valamunida Klompmaker and Robins gen. nov. Four new species are described: the terebratulide brachiopod Neoliothyrina nakremi Bitner sp. nov., the protobranch bivalve Yoldiella spitsbergensis Amano sp. nov., the xylophagain bivalve Xylophagella littlei Hryniewicz sp. nov., and the munidid decapod Valamunida haeggi Klompmaker and Robins gen. et sp. nov. New combinations are provided for the mytilid bivalve Inoperna plenicostata, the thyasirid bivalve Rhacothyas spitzbergensis, the ampullinid gastropod Globularia isfjordensis, and the munidid decapod Protomunida spitzbergica. Thirteen taxa are left in open nomenclature. The fauna contains a few last occurrences of Cretaceous survivors into the Paleocene, as well as first occurrences of Cenozoic taxa. It is composed of chemosymbiotic thyasirid bivalves and background species common in the northern Atlantic and Arctic during the Paleocene. Our results provide no evidence for a Paleocene origin of vesicomyid and bathymodiolin bivalves typical for Eocene and younger seep environments; instead, the Paleo cene seeps of the Basilika Formation are more similar to their Late Cretaceous equi valents rich in thyasirids.

We report on the discovery of large cephalopod arm hooks (mega−onychites) from the Kimmeridgian and Volgian of Spitsbergen (Agardhfjellet Formation). This includes a largely uncompressed hook in a seep carbonate, with preservation of surface sculpture. We suggest the use of logarithmic spirals as morphological descriptors for the outer part of cephalopod arm hooks, with implications for systematics and functional morphology. Comparison with Upper Jurassic material from Greenland, northern Norway and the North Sea demonstrates a remarkably consistent morphology, which we assign to the same form species, Onychites quenstedti. Considering the relatively small stratigraphic (Kimmeridgian–Volgian) and biogeographic (Boreal) range of this large form, it is likely that it represents a single biological species or genus.
