Opis:
Purpose: The main purpose of this study was to compare the phenomenon of interfrm cooperation strategy in both hyper-growth, and stable-growth knowledge and technology–intensive frms, in a country characterized by a high level of generalized trust: Sweden. Methodology: Qualitative methods were incorporated: direct semistructured interviews with top managers in 13 ICT frms (8 hyper-growth and 5 stable-growth), analyzis of reports, corporate websites and press releases. Furthermore, interviews in 3 expert frms in the industry were conducted, facilitating interfrm cooperation. Conclusions: There were signifcant differences in interfrm cooperation strategy in two distinguished groups of the frms: hyper-growth, and stable-growth. Managers’ individual approaches to uncertainty, strategy and cooperation might be more important than institutional settings. The ICT frms operate in a constantly changing global environment and local context seems to have only a minor impact on the rules of the game in the industry. Research limitations: This study was a qualitative explorative approach as an introduction to further empirical research. Originality: The study presents an interfrm cooperation phenomenon incorporating different perspectives and settings. It contributes to alliance portfolio literature (forming and managing of alliance portfolio in a different context/country/industry), and enhances understanding of frm strategies characterized by different growth rates.

Purpose: The main purpose of this paper is to present the phenomenon of interorganizational collaboration from the strategic perspective, as a complex phenomenon, infl uenced by environmental factors, such as institutions – both formal and informal. Additional aims of the paper are: to present a model including all signifi cant elements and identifying important research gaps. Methodology: The paper presents the results of literature analyses as well as the fi ndings of the latest research studies in the fi eld of interorganizational collaboration, taking into account the environment of the organization. Conclusions: The external environment of the organization, in particular socio-cultural factors, has a significant impact on the formation, development, evolution and management of interorganizational collaboration. There are still many research gaps in this fi eld, and some of them have been presented in this paper. Research limitations: This paper is a theoretical and conceptual study. It forms an introduction to further empirical research. Originality: The paper presents the phenomenon of interorganizational collaboration in a broader context, taking into account the external environment as an element infl uencing such collaboration. Most of the works in this fi eld focus on organizations managing or coping with the environment. This paper presents a different approach. It indicates the external factors that infl uence interorganizational collaboration from a strategic perspective, and subsequently presents them in the form of a model.

Opis:
Most of the Social Entrepreneurship (SE) literature derives its theoretical assumptions from the field of entrepreneurship in general, and more broadly, from modern economic theory. However, some thinkers notice significant gaps in existing theory and try to conceptualise SE incorporating some missing elements. In this theoretical paper, we explain the origins of contemporary SE concepts, analyse the significant contemporary SE works of leading thinkers and their theoretical assumptions. We also specify major shortcomings in existing concepts and demonstrate the possibility of filling gaps by realism, especially Aristotle’s philosophy. His distinctive realist view of human beings, including entrepreneurs, and his broader view on economics allows us to understand the essential nature of entrepreneurship, providing unique insights regarding the intellectual-volitional faculties of the social entrepreneur.

Opis:
The aim of this study is to construct a seismo-geological model of the western part of the Baltic Syneclise. This model enables reconstruction of the tectonic processes taking place in this area, which had a significant impact on the formation of prospective zones for the occurrence of unconventional hydrocarbon accumulations. The two seismic surveys Opalino 3D and Kościerzyna-Gdańsk 2D, together with borehole data available in the vicinity, were used for the research. Well data were used not only for the seismic-to-well tie, but also for the construction of well cross-sections (including balanced ones). The structural interpretation of seismic boundaries enabled the separation of four structural stages: Precambrian; Caledonian, Permian-Mesozoic and Cenozoic. The seismic interpretation of the Opalino 3D survey indicates the presence of block-style tectonics in this area. This system is considered to be a part of a large block system, also extending throughout the area of the 2D survey. The Caledonian interval shows the greatest degree of structural complexity. Most of the large Palaeozoic dislocations already had been formed in the Cambrian. They underwent reactivation and/or inversion in the Silurian, or in the final stages of the Caledonian and/or Variscan Orogeny, at the latest. The current shape and structure of the Baltic Syneclise and the development of the Palaeozoic sedimentary cover were significantly influenced by the processes taking place in the Teisseyre-Tornquist Zone (TTZ). The dislocations of the Lower Palaeozoic stage are characterized by general NW-SE and NE-SW trends, although the first of these seems to be dominant.

Opis:
INTRODUCTION: Studies show that the development of endometrial cancer is associated with the activity of estrogen-dependent genes, whose action is conditioned by the presence of estrogen receptors (ER). Analysis of the transcriptional activity of the genes which code ERs as well as the concentration profile of their isoforms could help to understand the mechanism of estrogen activity on the risk of endometrial cancer occurrence, as well as the mechanisms involved in its development and spread. The aim of the conducted studies was to compare the transcriptional activity of the genes coding ER-alpha and ER-beta estrogen receptors, determine the types of post-transcription modifications of ER mRNA in endometrial adenocarcinoma and normal endometrium as well as determine the transcriptome of estrogen-dependent genes of cytochrome P450. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Extraction of the total RNA from 47 endometrium samples was performed with the TRIzol reagent (Invitrogen). The expression profile of the estrogen-dependent genes of cytochrome P450 was determined using the HG-U133A (Affymetrix) oligonucleotide microarray technique from among 22,283 IDs of mRNA IDs. The QRT-PCR reaction for quantification of the mRNA of estrogen receptors was performed using an ABI PRISMTM 7700 (TaqMan) sequence detector. For the QRT-PCR reaction, oligonucleotide starter sequences to detect the ER-alpha and ER-beta mRNA isoforms were designed using Primer ExpressTM Version 1.0 software. RESULTS: In the presented work, it was found that estrogen receptor gene expression occurs in normal endometrium as well as in endometrial adenocarcinoma, and the dominating type is ER-alpha. The transcriptional activity of the ER-alpha and ER-beta genes decreases in adenocarcinoma with a simultaneous increase in the transcriptional activity ratio. The ER-alpha/delta5 isoform dominates in endometrial cancer. Statistical analysis conducted in the GeneSpring 11.5 programme showed that from the group of 91 mRNA IDs of the genes of cytochrome P450, 5 mRNA IDs differentiate, for p <0.5 and FC(log2) > 1.5. In the presented work, it was found that the expression of estrogen receptor genes occurs in normal endometrium and endometrial adenocarcinoma, and the dominant type is ER-alpha. The transcriptional activity of the ER-alpha and ER-beta genes decreases in adenocarcinoma, while the transcriptional activity index increases. In endometrial cancer, the ER-alpha/delta5 isoform dominates. Statistical analysis conducted in GeneSpring 11.5 showed that from the group 91 ID mRNA of cytochrome P450 genes, 5 ID mRNA is differentiating, for p < 0.5 and FC (log2) > 1.5. CONCLUSIONS: The presence of such a transcriptional profile of the studied genes in endometrial adenocarcinoma may indicate that post-transcriptional modifications of estrogen receptors are associated with changes triggering carcinogenesis.
Do reakcji QRT-PCR zaprojektowano sekwencje oligonukleotydowych starterów do detekcji izoform mRNA ER-alfa i ER-beta, wykorzystując program komputerowy Primer ExpressTM Version 1.0.

Opis:
Exotic clasts present in flysch deposits of the Western Outer Carpathians enable investigation and reconstruction of the eroded crystalline basement of the Silesian Ridge. The flysch rocks of the Istebna Formation (Jasnowice Member: Paleocene) in the Silesian Nappe contain magmatic and metamorphic clasts derived from the Silesian Ridge basement. The crystalline rock fragments acquired from cohesive debrites were analyzed petrographically and geochemically, and zircon and rutile crystals were subject to LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating. Granitoid clasts yielded Meso-Variscan U-Pb zircon ages (325.7 and 330.6 Ma), with older (Neoproterozoic to Paleoproterozoic) inherited cores and eNd330 = –12.0 (TDM age of 1.98 Ga). The orthogneiss clast yielded a protolith age of 1635 Ma and fingerprint of thermal reworking at ~288 Ma. Zircon crystals from the detrital clasts yielded similar U-Pb zircon ages to the granitoid clasts (311.5 to 391 and 331 Ma). The rutile crystals from sandstone yielded concordia age of 344.7 Ma. Zircon crystals from paragneiss, interpreted as a granitoid envelope, yielded 238U/206Pb ages between 557 and 686 Ma and include an inherited core of age ~1207.4 ±33.8 Ma. Age data from exotic clasts and the detrital zircon and rutile fraction suggest the core part of the Silesian Ridge was a Neoproterozoic to Mesoproterozoic envelope intruded by Meso-Variscan granitoid plutons.
