Opis:
The article discusses the views of the Polish intelligentsia in Cyprian Norwid’s lifetime on the issue of Russia’s membership in Europe. Among the discussed examples there are particularly frequent attempts to push Russia out of Europe by emphasising its Asian character. The examples of pan-Slavic ideas are less frequent. Against this background, Norwid’s views on the question of Russia’s Asianness seem to be exceptionally balanced. The poet noticed that Russia was different, but he believed that isolating it from Europe could be more detrimental than beneficial.

The aim of this paper is an evaluation of changes in a sectoral structure of the employment in EU-countries in time. Against this background there are exposed changes in Polish economy in the period 1997-2008. There were used classical tools of the statistical analysis to illustrate and initially verification the theory of three sectors by A. Fisher, C. Clark i J. Fourastiè, orientated to the evaluation of the modernization process of EU-economies.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is a typology of EU-countries from the point of view of their modernization measures, a diagnostics and an evaluation of changes in a sectoral structure of the employment in EU-countries. Against this background there are exposed changes in Polish economy in the period 1997-2008. There were used the multidimensional comparative analysis of the sequence separation of homogenous objects subsets (cluster analysis and quick cluster) and the little known in Poland, but popular in the US, measurement technique of sectoral changes in time - the shift share-technique to illustrate and verify empirically the theory of three sectors by A. Fisher, C. Clark i J. Fourastiè, orientated to the evaluation of the modernization process of EU-economies.

Opis:
The main purpose was to determine the values of spatio-temporal parameters and ground reaction forces during the swingthrough crutch gait. Methods: Eighteen male patients with unilateral injury within the foot, ankle or shank (age: 25.4 ± 7.7 years, body height: 1.79 ± 0.06 m, body mass: 76.1 ± 11.5 kg) participated in the study. In the experiment, 6-camera optoelectronic motion capture system and force platform were used. The measurements of spatio-temporal parameters and ground reaction force (GRF) were performed for uninjured lower extremity (ULE), crutch on the ULE side (CrU) and crutch on the injured lower extremity side (CrI). Results: Analysis demonstrated a significantly longer stance phase and a significantly shorter swing phase for ULE than crutches ( p < 0.05), and a significantly longer first, compared to the second, double support phase ( p < 0.05). Comparisons showed also significantly higher maximum values of the vertical GRF and extreme values of the horizontal antero-posterior GRF for ULE than crutches ( p < 0.05) as well as for CrI than CrU ( p < 0.05). Conclusions: The present study provides biomechanical data related to the spatio-temporal parameters and GRFs for the swing-through crutch gait in patients with the lower extremity injuries.

Opis:
Introduction: Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) is one of the most common treatments for morbid obesity. The learning curve for this procedure is 50–75 cases for an independent surgeon, and it is considered the most important factor in decreasing complications and mortality. We present our experience and learning curve with LRYGB for a newly established bariatric center in Poland. Material and methods: A prospectively collected database containing 285 LRYGB procedures performed in the II Department of General Surgery of the Jagiellonian University MC in Krakow between 06.2010 and 03.2019 was retrospectively reviewed. Patients were divided into groups of 30 (G1–G10) in the order of the procedures performed by each surgeon. The study analyzed the course of the operation and patient hospitalization, comparing those groups. Learning curve for the newly created bariatric center was established. Results: Operative time in G1–G3 differed significantly from G4–G10 (P < 0.0001). The stabilization point was the 90th procedure. Perioperative complications were observed in 36 (12.63%) patients. Perioperative complications, intraoperative difficulties and adverse events did not differ importantly among groups. Liberal use of “conversions of the operator” from a surgeon to a senior surgeon provides reasonable safety and prevents complications. Conclusions: The institutional learning process stabilization point for LRYGB in a newly established bariatric center is around the 90th operation. LRYGB can be a safe procedure from the very beginning in newly established bariatric centers. Specific bariatric training with active proctoring by an experienced surgeon in a bariatric centre can improve the laparoscopic gastric bypass outcome during the learning curve.
