Opis:
Radio frequency systems developed for large scientific experiments have become increasingly sensitive to phase changes in their subcomponents. Amongst the most important subassemblies there are definitely coaxial cables that provide interconnections between experiment subsystems. It is commonly known that the major source of phase drifts in coaxial cables is their sensitivity to temperature changes. The phenomenon of phase drifts in cables is discussed in this paper. A phase drift measurement setup is described. Samples of cables of various types used in RF system installations have been measured. Measurement results are presented.

Opis:
The new LLRF system architecture based on the ATCA platform was developed and tested at FLASH. The LLRF system require generation of highly stable clock and trigger signals for high precision data processing and synchronous system operation. This paper describes the conception, design and performance test results of the updated AMC module designed to fulfill the LLRF system timing synchronization needs. This module contains three independent clock synthesizers that are able to generate LVDS clock signals in the range of 10 MHz to 100 MHz. These signals are transmitted over the AMC connector and can be distributed over the entire ATCA crate. The clock synthesizers can be synchronized either by an internal quartz oscillator or an external phase reference signal provided to the board either via the AMC edge connector or via a front panel socket. This assures flexibility when using the board for tests and for the LLRF system operation. Besides clock synthesizers the AMC card contains also an optical receiver suited to convert and decode FLASH timing signals distributed in the FLASH accelerator system.

Opis:
Future RF Control systems will require simultaneous data acquisition of up to 100 fast ADC channels at sampling rates of around 100 MHz and real time signal processing within a few hundred nanoseconds. At the same time the standardization of Low-Level RF systems are common objectives for all laboratories for cost reduction, performance optimization and machine reliability. Also desirable are modularity and scalability of the design as well as compatibility with accelerator instrumentation needs including the control system. All these requirements can be fulfilled with the new telecommunication standard ATCA when adopted to the domain of instrumentation. We describe the architecture and design of an ATCA based LLRF system for the European XFEL. Initial results of the demonstration of such a system at the FLASH user facility will be presented. Presented are the results of operating essential components of a prototype during the machine studies in January and March 2009.
