Opis:
The article presented forecasts for European biofuel production in processes BtL and WtL on the basis of thermochemical technological path. The paper presents the processes of pyrolysis and gasification of biomass leading to the preparation of liquid hydrocarbon fractions in the synthesis of Fischer-Tropsch and processes HTU. Based on the model Koufopanosa, made the right choice of methods to investigate the thermogravimetric kinetics of biomass gasification with a change of enthalpy and identification of degradation products in real time. Presents the results of preliminary tests conducted on the Simultaneous Thermal Analyzer STA 449 F3 Jupiter's Nietzsche. These studies were carried out for samples of cereal straw, crushed to a state of dry dust. Gasification process by subjecting the sample, the test set, recorded curves TG and DSC, and observing the changes in mass, temperature and enthalpy. These studies have been done to pre-determine the conditions under which it may begin the process of liquidation. The study was conducted in an atmosphere of argon / nitrogen and argon / carbon dioxide. The temperature regime provided that the samples were heated to the temperature of500 °C at the heating rate of 3 K/min. Argon was used as protective gas, and N2 and CO2 - as purge gas with flow rates of 30 ml/min. The results, along with discussion, are presented in graphs -derivatograms and charts showing the cumulative weight changes and changes in enthalpy of individual samples.

Opis:
Low-frequency magnetic therapy is already well established treatment of the vast range of diseases. The impact of low frequency magnetic field on human's and animals' bodies is the subject to research in many universities and medical centers. A portable microprocessor device "KTM" used in Pulsed Magnetic Field therapy has been developed at the Department of Measurement and Diagnostic Systems at the Electrotechnical Institute. Due to the device potential to use it for home therapy treatment there are new capabilities brought out e.g., increased accessibility, prolonged sessions, limited therapy costs, remote patient-doctor communication system. Magnetotherapy treatment can be an online monitored and controlled process. The device can be specified by low manufacturing and exploitation costs. Along with the "KTM" the specialized software for controlling several KTM devices from doctor's office has been created.

Introduction. The influence of infection with two species of entomopathogenic nematodes of Steinernematidae family on metabolism of glycogen and trehalose of the host was studied. Material and methods. Last instar larvae (L₇) of Galleria mellonella were experimentally infected with Steinernema affinis and S. feltiae. At 6, 12, 18 and 24 h after infection concentrations of trehalose and glycogen as well as activity of trehalase and α-amylase were determined. Results. The content of glycogen was lower in insects infected with S. feltiae than in the controls and animals infected with S. affinis. The content of trehalose was higher in insects from both infected groups than in the controls. Its concentration was slightly higher in larvae infected with S. affinis than in those infected with S. feltiae. The activity of α-amylase after infection with S. affinis was low. It was significantly higher in insects infected with S. feltiae. In animals of both infected groups, following a significant reduction at 6 h, the activity of trehalase remained at a similar level, higher than in the controls. In the paper the effects of infection with (i) different species of entomopathogenic nematodes and (ii) the importance of the developmental stage of the insect-host for changes in its metabolism of glycogen and trehalose were discussed.

The objective of the study is to attempt an evaluation of heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV) regulatory mechanisms in the presence of autonomous nervous system (ANS) components in transient exposure to high altitude hypoxia. During 24 hrs including a stay in hypobaria, the participants had their HR continuously recorded using the Holter method. The following parameters were calculated at rest and during the stay in a thermobarochamber: spectral power in low frequency bands (LF) 0.04-0.15 Hz and high frequency bands (HF) 0.15-0.5 Hz, and the sympathetic-parasympathetic balance index LF/HF. Under hypobaric conditions, a decrease in mean spectral power of R-R intervals was noted within both frequency ranges, compared with the study performed in normobaria. The observed differences were larger at daytime.

Opis:
Background. In the face of unrelenting civilization threats and social challenges, the dynamic development of wellness & spa centers is observed. The aim of this work is an analysis to determine whether the 100 best Polish spa hotels satisfy the requirements of this type of company in light of terminology put forward by the International Spa Association (ISPA) and the European Spas Association (ESPA). Material and methods. Definitions put forward by ISPA and ESPA form the basis of assessment in this study. A method of diagnostic survey was applied. Results. According to the ESPA, only 41% of spas can actually be classified as such, compared to 61% according to ISPA. As many as 22% of the hotels surveyed do not meet the requirements of such enterprises for either ESPA or ISPA. Inconsistent definitions of ESPA and ISPA lead to chaos in the wellness & spa market. Conclusions. It is necessary to develop a Polish definition which clearly defines the criteria for the classification of spa facilities and the possibility of their verification from the point of view of quality and compliance with planned standards.
Wprowadzenie. W obliczu niesłabnących zagrożeń cywilizacyjnych i wyzwań społecznych obserwuje się dynamiczny rozwój ośrodków wellness & spa. Celem pracy jest analiza, czy w świetle terminologii International Spa Association (ISPA) i The European Spas Association (ESPA), 100 najlepszych polskich hoteli spa rzeczywiście spełnia wymogi tego typu przedsiębiorstwa. Materiał i metody. Wnioski. Konieczne jest opracowanie ustawowej polskiej definicji, która określi normy/kryteria klasyfikacji obiektów spa i umożliwi ich weryfikację pod względem jakości i zgodności z wyznaczonymi standardami.

Activity of hydrolases during the third and fourth larval stage of Anisakis simplex was identified by applying the API ZYM test method. In A. simplex larvae the activity of phosphatases was high, particularly that of acid phosphatase (40 nmol/mg-'). Among esterases lack of activity of lipase (Cj 4) is worth noticing while the activity of esterases (C4) and (Cg) was high. The activity of those later two enzymes was higher in L larvae than in Ly larvae. The highest activity in the subclass of glucosidases was recorded for B-fucosidase and N-acetyl-B-glucosaminidase. A higher activity in L3 larvae than in Ly larvae was recorded for: B-glucuronidase and N-acetyl-B-glucosaminidase (2-fold) and B-fucosidase (3-fold). Differently the activity of B-galactosidase and B-glucosidase was higher in L4 larvae than in L3 larvae. The tests did not show activity of o-galactosidase, 8-glucosidase and amannosidase on both larval forms.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to identify the species and determine the prevalence of gastric Helicobacter in the saliva of dogs with gastritis. The study was carried out on 30 dogs of different breeds, genders and ages, which were diagnosed with gastritis. The nested-PCR method was used to detect Helicobacter spp. in saliva. Helicobacter bacteria were found in the saliva samples of 23 (76.6%) dogs. Helicobacter heilmannii was the most commonly detected species of gastric Helicobacter spp. in canine saliva, and was found in 22 (73.3%) cases. The results indicate that gastric Helicobacter spp. occurs relatively frequently in dogs with gastritis. Moreover, the saliva of dogs with gastritis may be a source of Helicobacter spp. infection for humans and other animals. However, further studies are needed to confirm this finding as the PCR method does not distinguish active from inactive infections.
