Opis:
There are over 1000 electroplating workshops functioning in Poland; they are agglomerated in automotive industry, agricultural and construction machines industry, precision instruments industry, electronics, electrotechnics, etc.. . The chemical composition of wastes from galvanizing plants strictly depends on the technological processes as well as the methods of neutralization of industrial wastewaters. The wastes mentioned can be neutralized, among other possibilities, using cement, fly ashes or lime. The material that gains the widest applicability for treating a wide spectrum of hazardous wastes is Portland cement. Using cement enables an improvement of the physical (solidifying) and chemical characteristics of various kinds of wastes, that ensures a decrease in the mobility of contaminants (stabilization). The process using Portland cement (CEM I 32,5 R) was used towards galvanic sludges. The results presented in this article allow for the assesment of the applicability of mixture of cement with mortar sand, as well as the mixture of cement and flotation tailings for the stabilizing and solidifying galvanic sludge, containing mainly Cr, Cu, Zn and Ni. The presented study was also concentrated on the limitation in the transport of leached contaminants to the environment, the reduction of the solubility of hazardous contaminants, as well as a change in the physical structure of the waste - in other words, derivation of the product that could be mechanically durable during transport and storage.

Opis:
The research was performed to evaluate usability of stabilization/ solidification (S/S) processes in permanent separation of the surface of soil contaminated with xylene in order to reduce its emission to the environment. For the needs of the experiment, soil samples were prepared with the same amounts of solvent and then, after averaging their physicochemical composition, stabilized with Portland cement CEM II 32,5 R. In the course of stabilization/solidification process, all emitted gaseous contaminants were monitored. The effect of a binder dose on xylene emission was evaluated based on the momentary concentrations (C8H10) monitored above the surface of reactive mixture using a flame-ionization detector. Simultaneously, contaminated air was run through pipes filled with activated carbon. Then, based on chromatographic analysis of xylene vapors adsorbed on activated carbon, the measured momentary concentrations were verified.

Opis:
When it comes to waste management, the main objective of the European Union is to prevent waste production. Produced waste should be primarily recycled or other recovery should be applied. Introduction of an effective waste collection system is a basic activity that guarantees achieving European Union agenda including the minimal level of recycling and preparation for reuse. The aim of the research was the analysis of the selective waste collection in the detached housing area (before 1st July 2013). The evaluation was prepared on the basis of an opinion research conducted among the residents. One hundred respondents, living in one of the housing estates in Wrocław, took part in the survey.
