Plant is one of the major forms of life on earth. It can produce its own food but cannot move about. Plants have well organized structures. They are beautiful and they determine local climates and are used as live fences. They phytoremediate and cool our environment. They provide us with oxygen, medicines, fuel, timber, recreation, industrial products; preservatives, pesticides in addition to all the three necessities of life: food, clothing and shelter. They purify the air and water bodies. It is therefore impossible to talk about life without plants because of their importance to the balance of nature. However, people have altered and often degraded their environment, though it has been taking place so gradually that its effects have not been drastically felt. Despite the enormous benefits of plants to humanity, they are disappearing at alarming rates. The reasons for this loss are many and include many anthropogenic activities. It is therefore quite imperative to ensure their effective conservation. This paper summarizes available information about the direct and the indirect benefits of plants and suggests some important measures to ensure their posterity. I hope, by bringing this information together, people will appreciate our plants and be frugal in using them.

Opis:
Porous metal with uniform honeycomb structure was successfully produced by sintering using Fe-Cr-Al nano powder, which was prepared by the pulsed wire evaporation (PWE) in ethanol. Its process consisted of the several steps; 1) coating on the surface of polyurethane sponge with the liquid droplets generated from the ethanol-based slurry where the Fe-Cr-Al nano powders were uniformly dispersed, 2) heat treatment of debinding to remove the polyurethane sponge and 3) sintering of the porous green body formed by Fe-Cr-Al nano powders. The strut thickness of porous Fe-Cr-Al was increased by the increase of spraying times in ESP step. Also, The shrinkages and the oxidation resistance of the sintered porous body was increased with increase of sintering temperature. The optimal sintering temperature was shown to 1450°C in views to maximize the oxidation resistance and sinterability.

Microbially assisted phytoremediation is considered as the most promising eco-friendly solution for recultivation of heavy metal polluted soils. In vitro experiments can be favorable systems that allow assessing compatibility and efficiency of both partners (e.g. plant-microorganism) which reduces time and space in the initial stages of this technology. The main objective of this study was: (1) to calculate the Cd2+ accumulation factors (e.g. BCF, Ti, AF) using willow (Salix viminalis L.) inoculated with three Streptomyces sp. strains under in vitro conditions and (2) to compare obtained results with that derived from pot experiments by Złoch et al. (2017). Our results reveal significantly increase in Cd2+ accumulation capacity of Streptomyces spp. inoculated wil- low plants, indicating microbial stimulation of phytoextraction. Additionally, inoculated plants showed higher biomass production and lower lipids peroxidation level. The results revealed significant increase of MEA, BCF, Ti, MER by Strep-1 and Strep-2 in the above-ground parts of inoculated plants. Moreover, of the three strains tested, Strep-1 (Streptomyces sp. SIIB-Zn-R8) demonstrated the highest impact on the Cd2+ phytoextraction efficiency. In conclusion, the proposed in vitro model system allowed predicting Cd2+ phytoextraction capacity per- formed using inoculated willow plants with the significant reduction of both time and space.

Calf diarrhea continues to be the major problem of calves in the neonatal period. The effect of zeolites has been increasingly studied in ruminant health in recent years. In the present study, the efficacy of cristobalite, a zeolite, in neonatal calf diarrhea was studied first time. For this purpose, twenty-five neonatal calves with diarrheas were divided into two groups, and Group 1 (n=12) received conventional treatment and Group 2 (n=13) received cristobalite (Zoosorb 10 mg/kg) orally 3 times a day in addition to conventional treatment. Escherichia coli k99 and CS31a, bovine rotavirus and bovine coronavirus were isolated from fecal samples at the beginning of the treatment, on the third day and before discharge. It was determined that the recovery period in Group 2 was 0.95 (20.6%) days shorter than in Group 1 (p<0.05) while no viral agents were found on the fifth day in Group 2, viral shedding continued in 4 of 5 calves in Group 1. In conclusion, the study revealed that cristobalite speeds the recovery time and possibly decreases viral shedding in neonatal calf diarrhea, demonstrating a remarkable efficiency in the treatment.

Described here is a partial postcranial skeleton and additional disarticulated but associated bones of the new fossil penguin Spheniscus muizonisp. nov. from the latest middle/earliest late Miocene (11–13 Ma) locality of Cerro la Bruja in the Pisco Formation, Peru. This fossil species can be attributed to the extant genus Spheniscus by postcranial morphology and is the oldest known record of this genus. Spheniscus muizonisp. nov. is about the size of the extant Jackass and Magellanic penguins (Spheniscus demersus and Spheniscus magellanicus). Beside Spheniscus urbinai and Spheniscus megaramphus it is the third species of Spheniscus represented in the Pisco Formation. This study contains morphological comparisons with Tertiary penguins of South America and with most of the extant penguin species.

In order to ensure equality of occupational health care among employees of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and of larger companies, amendments in the regulations of the numerous German accident insurance funds had to be made to provide for full availability of services, as requested by German and European law. According to these amendments, sectors formerly exempted due to small size and due to lack of an adequate number of qualified personnel, had to be covered by occupational health care. In order to reach this target group new strategies of care delivery had to be developed, making use of pre-existing infrastructure and networks. In Germany, district trade association (Kreishandwerkerschaften) have proved to be very effective for introducing occupational safety and health care into SMEs by either hiring external multidisciplinary services or by establishing a common service to be used by all associated crafts establishments. In a study conducted by the Federal Office for Health and Safety at Work in 1996 (Boldt, Gille, &Grahl, 1997), 7 district trade association were looked at in detail for their strategies. The results were discussed and supplemented in a 2-day workshop.

The prime purpose of this study is to evaluate the role of self-efficacy in job satisfaction and employee commitment. Self-efficacy refers to individual’s conviction in their ability to successfully execute a given task (Bandura, 1997). Ensuring job satisfaction and increasing employee commitment are important issues faced by organizations. Results of this study depict that self-efficacy is significantly and positively associated with job satisfaction and commitment. Findings of the study have got implication on gaining competitive advantage. Contemporary scholars argue that obtaining competitive advantage through traditional resources is not sustainable as proprietary information, economic resources, and technology are available. Self-efficacy being a positive psychological resource is not easily replicable by competitors and thus can serve as a source of competitive advantage. Further, self-efficacy training can be devised to enhance self-efficacy in employees. Improvement in self-efficacy is likely to foster growth in self-leadership behavior, commitment, job satisfaction, and performance.
Głównym celem tego badania jest ocena roli własnej skuteczności w satysfakcji z pracy i zaangażowania pracowników. Poczucie własnej skuteczności odnosi się do przekonania jednostki w jej zdolność do pomyślnego wykonania danego zadania (Bandura, 1997). Zapewnienie satysfakcji z pracy oraz zwiększenie zaangażowania pracowników to ważne kwestie, z którymi borykają się organizacje. Wyniki badania pokazują, że poczucie własnej skuteczności jest istotnie i pozytywnie związane z satysfakcją z pracy i zaangażowaniem. Ustalenia przedstawione w analizie mają wpływ na uzyskanie przewagi konkurencyjnej. Współcześni uczeni argumentują, że uzyskanie przewagi konkurencyjnej za pomocą tradycyjnych środków nie jest zrównoważone jak zastrzeżone informacje, zasoby gospodarcze i dostępne technologie. Własna skuteczność będąc pozytywnym zasobem psychologicznym nie jest łatwa do powielenia przez konkurencję, a zatem może służyć jako źródło przewagi konkurencyjnej. Ponadto szkolenie własnej skuteczności może być opracowane w celu zwiększenia poczucia własnej skuteczności u pracowników. Poprawa wlasnej skuteczności może wspierać wzrost zachowań samoprzywództwa, zaangażowania, satysfakcji z pracy i wydajności.

Azoester novel homologous series RO-CH:CH-COO-C10H6-N:N-C6H4-Cl (ortho) from trans cinnamic acid and α-napthol using ortho chloro aniline has been synthesized and studied with a view to understand and establish the relations between thermotropic liquid crystalline (LC) behaviours of homologues and their molecular structure as a consequence of molecular rigidity and flexibility with changing number of methylene unit present in left n-alkoxy group (-OR) of a molecule. Novel azoester series consists of thirteen (C1 to C18) homologues. C6 to C18 homologues are enantiotropically nematogenic with absence of smectic property. C1 to C5 members are nonliquid crystal. Textures of nematic phase and transition temperatures were determined by an optical polarising microscopy (POM) equipped with a heating stage. Textures of nematic phase are threaded or schilieren. Phase transition curves Cr-N/I and N-I behaved in normal manner in a phase diagram. Analytical and spectral data confirmed molecular structures of homologues. Nematic thermal stability is 145.12 and the degree of mesomorphism vary from 26.0 °C to 46.0 °C at the C14 and C7 homologues respectively. The LC properties of present azoester series are compared with structurally analogous series. Thus, novel series is enantiotropically nematogenic whose mesogenic range is good enough and of middle ordered melting type.

The effective activation energies, characteristic crystallization temperatures and enthalpies of amorphous $RMn_{4.5}Ge_{4.5}Fe_{1.5}Al_{1.5}$ (R = Y, La, Dy) alloys produced using melt-spinning technique were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. X-ray diffraction measurements were performed for as-quenched and annealed samples. The crystalline structure of annealed $YMn_{4.5}Ge_{4.5}Fe_{1.5}Al_{1.5}$ and $DyMn_{4.5}Ge_{4.5}Fe_{1.5}Al_{1.5}$ alloys was determined as orthorhombic $TbFe_6Sn_6$-type with Cmcm (63) space group. The alloy with Y appears as a more useful non-magnetic analogue for $DyMn_{4.5}Ge_{4.5}Fe_{1.5}Al_{1.5}$ than the La-based alloy. The differential scanning calorimetry curves for Dy- and Y-based alloys also exhibit similar thermal behavior. The effective activation energies $E_a$ were determined using the Kissinger approach and high values up to 778±74 kJ/mol for La-based sample were established. The comparison of Y-, La-, and Dy-based alloys suggests improvement of thermal stability with the increase in rare-earth element atomic radius in the glassy $RMn_{4.5}Ge_{4.5}Fe_{1.5}Al_{1.5}$ systems.

Opis:
The crash box between a bumper and a car body in automobiles can reduce impacts for car bodies with a bumper at a low-speed collision by preventing the shocks. Also, this crash box is the part playing a very important role for the safety of vehicle and the reduction of repair cost, and many studies have been investigated for the performance. In this study, aluminum foam was inserted in an aluminum crash box to analyze the relationships of deformation, stress and internal energy. The compression characteristics are compared with six cases. In addition, the load due to displacement at experiment for a case is verified by modeling with finite elements and performing the structural analysis. As these study results for investigating characteristics of the crash box, it is thought that the effective designs of crash box to enhance the durability for collision are made possible.
