Olha Kobylianska and Eliza Orzeszkowa lived nearly at the same time, at the end of the 19,h century. Both wrote novels about the faith, life and identity of women, especially about the gender roles of men and women, therefore I cali their novels feministic ones. I consider them to be key works of feminism because they show the situation of women in their time. The aim of this article is to compare the novels Tsarivna by Kobylianska and Marta by Orzeszkowa to discuss some aspects of the situation of women in the 191" century in Eastern Europę.

Opis:
The present paper views globalisation and women’s work and exploitation in a micro enterprise in India, the beedi (indigenous cigarette) industry with a case study from one of the states in India. Rural occupational structures and employment patterns in India have undergone a transition in the last few decades due to globalisation. Newer forms of employment like construction work, domestic services and beedi making have become alternatives to agricultural labour for women. Beedi is an indigenous cigarette, in which tobacco is rolled in a tendu leaf and tied with a cotton thread. This is smaller and less expensive than a cigarette and in the popular imagination it stands for the working class. This work is done sitting at home and mostly women and girls do it. This is a very gendered industry, for only women and girls that too from low-income groups make beedis. There is a lot of exploitation in this industry and this has only increased with the advent of globalisation but this is generally ignored by data gathering systems, policy makers and administrators. There is an occupational health hazard too for many of these workers suffer from various health hazards not because they are smoking these beedis but because they are making them.

Introduction. Metabolic Syndrome is a set of interrelated risk factors for the emergence and progression of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, such as central obesity (abdominal), elevated blood pressure and disorders of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. Peri- and postmenopausal women are particularly at risk for developing MS by the aging and loss of the protective effect of estrogen on the body, additionally by intellectual work associated with a sedentary lifestyle and job stress. Obective. The aim of the study was to analyze the frequency of MS and its criteria in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women performing intellectual work, as well as selected factors on which the metabolic syndrome depends. Materials and method. The study group consist of 300 women aged 44–66 working intellectually. Research methods used: metabolic syndrome’s criteria, Greene Climacteric Scale, body fat accumulation, medical interview. Statistical methods used: logistic regression analysis, analysis of variance, χ2 test of stochastic independence. Results. The MS was diagnosed in about ¼ of the women in perimenopausal and postmenopausal period working intellectually; in most of them, abdominal obesity (¾), in more than a half hypertension, in every sixth hypertriglyceridaemia, in every seventh hyperglycaemia and in every tenth low HDL-C. Prevalence of MS and its criteria was correlated with BMI, body fat accumulation and parity. Prevalence of arterial hypertension was associated with the severity of menopausal symptoms and lack of physical activity. Conclusions. Prevalence of MS and some of its criteria depended on BMI, body fat accumulation, parity, severity of menopausal symptoms and lack of physical activity, whereas it did not depend on: age between 44–66, educational level, marital status or HRT taking.

The article analyses the first Polish regulations concerning the employment of juveniles and women. In the original version, both entities were protected by a common, collective legal act. In addition to the normative analysis, the paper aims to indicate the emerging protective regulations and to highlight the threads considered today as the axiology of employment in relation to these particularly protected entities. The study was enriched with views expressed in the then literature on the subject and references to practice, as well as an assessment of the solutions used from the perspective of almost a hundred years from the enactment of the law. Due to the proposed temporal scope, the article is innovative, allowing at the same time to highlight the most important changes in the scope of the discussed matter. In perspective, this study will be used to evaluate the regulations currently in force, which are addressed separately to working women and juveniles.
W artykule poddano analizie pierwsze polskie regulacje dotyczące zatrudnienia młodocianych i kobiet. Opis:
This study investigated women, migration, decent work and vulnerabilities in Africa. Essentially, it is on record that for the last few years more female migrants have been migrating independently for work, education and as heads of households. Despite these improvements, female migrants may still face stronger discrimination, are more vulnerable to mistreatment, and can experience double discrimination as both migrants and as women in their host country in comparison to male migrants. Nonetheless, male migrants are also exposed to vulnerabilities in the migration processes. For example, records have it that every day, women across Libya who have been subjected to forced marriages, sexual abuse, and other dire situations, leave their home countries for the prospect of a better life and with longing for Europe’s safety, they are willing to face an equally perilous route ahead, with the constant risk of being returned to Libyan detention centres, where they are abused, starved, and tortured (Palmucci, 2021). It is based on this that this study was carried out using investigative analysis of women victims who are presently returnees to their home country (Nigeria). Through identified women returnees from some of these countries, most especially Libya, 15 women returnees interacted to share their experiences while outside the country for greener pastures. These 15 women returnees were able to link the authors of this study to other 29 women returnees to Nigeria in the last three to two years.

Opis:
Due to the increasing Islamisation, in contemporary Malaysia, non-veiled Muslim women have become the minority in many domains of public life, including the workplace (Hochel 2013; Izharuddin 2018; Mouser 2007). As the veil is widely regarded as a signifier of a Muslim woman’s identity and her level of piety (Ruby 2006; Stirling & Shaw 2004), a woman’s decision to not wear it can result in discriminatory treatment, such as exclusion from the religious community (Othman 2006).  In this paper we give these often discriminated against women a voice and describe some of the challenges that they experience at work. Our particular focus is how these non-veiling women construct their identities – as religious Muslims, “good” women, and successful professionals – in a socio-cultural context where veiling is the norm (Hochel 2013; Izharuddin 2018; Khalid and O’Connor 2011). Drawing on 20 interviews with such women and using Bucholtz and Hall’s (2005) relationality principle, we demonstrate how through their stories of personal experience these women mobilise and orient to a range of different identities – including gender, religious and professional – which are intertwined  with each other in complex ways.

Opis:
Purpose: The aim of this article is to show what factors contribute to women’s reluctance to work part-time and to what extent. Part-time employment is a characteristic feature of the labour market in many Western European countries. In Poland, this form of employment is much less popular, also among women whom it mainly concerns, even though from the employer’s point of view part-time employment along with other forms of flexible work could result in a greater flexibility of an organization. Design/methodology/approach: Based on the analysis of the source literature, other research and the authors own studies among women (conducted with the use of questionnaires from 71 female respondents), the text explores why this form of employment is not popular in Poland. Findings: The results of the analysis point to unsatisfactory levels of income as the main reason; however, the income factor was not the only disadvantage of part-time employment identified by the respondents. Research limitations/implications: Due to the size of the research sample, the results cannot be generalized for the whole population. This study provides a basis for further research. Practical implications: The results constitute an important contribution to this debate, both in terms of the state economy and decisions taken by entrepreneurs themselves related to part-time employment. In the light of the current problems with recruiting qualified employees, learning more about their concerns and factors that have an impact on their decisions may help employers be more effective in taking action. Originality/value: The authors’ contribution in this paper is to provide empirical insights into factors contributing to reluctance to work part-time. This paper corrects an identified lack of research into these factors in Poland.

Over the last twenty years a growing number of researchers have been interested in female entrepreneurship. Every third business venture in the world is run by a woman. Brief Women business owners face substantial risks and uncertainty. Women tend to take entrepreneurial risks if provided with various forms of support that increase their sense of psychological safety and work comfort. The below study findings identify the most useful support methods. The subject of the survey was to determine on a scale of five the usefulness of individual forms of business support. Respondents answered, how useful is listed form of business support. Support should be tailored to the demographic characteristics of women. In depending on the stage of life and life situation women need different support. The barriers to women entrepreneurship result not as much from difficulties in obtaining funding but rather from the frustration resulting from unfulfilled social needs. Access to support from the state, social organizations and family members increases the sense of psychological safety and work comfort in women, leading to a greater propensity to take risks and start and run businesses.

South Korea is a country where gender inequality has been observed from the past to the present. Many studies point out that gender inequality in Korean society is a consequence of Confucianism which still exists in the social norms, structure and hierarchy of society and the mentality of contemporary Korean people. It causes that gender inequality remains strong not only in the job market but also in the gender division of homework and care work issues, particularly in the sphere of family life. The main object of this paper is to investigate the possibility of making marital relationships equal while women are economically active. To achieve the paper’s main goal, the statistical analysis was carried out with logistic regression on data from the Korean Longitudinal Survey on Women and Families in 2012 and 2020. The results indicated that despite the significant social and economic changes in Korean society, women’s activity in the job market did not introduce a significant change in the division of household duties among men and women, which shows women’s involvement in economic support of the family it does not make any significant changes to the aspect of equality in the relationship.

Opis:
Women employed in State Agricultural Farms (SAF) were blue- and white-collar workers, the former group being more numerous. However, the blue-collar workers mainly worked seasonally, during the period of intensive field work. When it comes to fulltime work, it was usually related to animal production. The demand for this type of work decreased with the progress of mechanization. Meanwhile, the demand for white-collar workers, especially those with agricultural education and experience, increased. Since the 1960s, the SAFs increasingly employed women qualified in agronomy, animal production, and veterinary medicine. However, they were not always accepted in positions traditionally considered “masculine”. For most women, work in SAFs was not attractive due to difficult working conditions and low prestige. If a woman decided to work there, it was usually for economic reasons. Most women did not take up professional activity and performed the traditional roles of wives and mothers.

Background: The fact that professional activity is reduced is a very challenging experience for persons with cancer whose sense of self-worth is linked to their work. Not only does cancer often become the reason for their deteriorated socio-economic position but it also reduces the quality of life assessment in cancer patients. Material and Methods: The aim of the study was to discover the sense and meaning that women with cancer ascribe to their professional work. The research was carried out among 6 women diagnosed with cancer, aged 32–49 years. A qualitative research strategy was adopted in the study and interpretative phenomenological analysis was applied. Results: Based on the conducted research, when faced with cancer, the respondents often perceive professional work as a factor that triggers cancer and, at the same time, one that can increase their self-esteem, giving meaning to their life. It, therefore, seems crucial to support the professional activity of cancer patients and to create jobs promoting health. Conclusions: When working with a person suffering from cancer, it is worth considering the possibilities that returning to work is likely to carry. It is important to create such jobs and work environments that would be consistent with the concept of health promotion. It seems that the key factors here are the appointment of persons responsible for the return process of a person with a chronic illness, accompanied by efficient communication between the employer and occupational health services, and efficient exchange of information between the treating physician and the workplace (with the employee’s consent).

In the past decade, the Israeli Army (IDF) has been undergoing simultane-ously two ‘social revolutions’: a ‘feminist revolution’ and a “religious revolution”. The two revolutions have different and conflicting ideologies causing a clash of values. Feminist values demand the integration of women in the army without gender separation, whereas religious principles require modesty and gender separation. At the moment, in practice, religious values which under-mine women’s equal opportunities in the army outweigh democratic values. If the secular women and men in Israeli society will not act to deprive the IDF of its unofficial and unauthorized role of balancing conflicting values in society, the status and roles of women in the army will be downgraded, directly im-pacting gender inequality in the employment market.

The main purpose of the publication is to determine what knowledge was available to Polish women about the situation of women and feminist organizations in Europe and on other continents? What picture of the activities of these organizations was presented by the Women’s League press bodies? By using the classic method of analyzing and criticizing the content of the press, and as an auxiliary methodology of monographic research, it was possible to find answers to these and similar questions. Studies have shown, among others what role such organizations as the Democratic Committee of Bulgarian Women and the Democratic Union of Finnish Women played in the emancipation processes.
Głównym celem publikacji jest ustalenie, jaką wiedzę tuż po II wojnie światowej pozyskiwały Polki z prasy na temat sytuacji kobiet i działalności stowarzyszeń feministycznych w Europie i na innych kontynentach? Ponadto jaki obraz funkcjonowania tych organizacji prezentowały organy prasowe Ligi Kobiet?

Opis:
The article aims to assess if women’s problems are specifically identified in labour legislation relating to digitalisation. Women appear in preparatory phases of legislative procedures (reports, motives), while usually they are not explicitly addressed in final drafts or acts. Digitalisation of work of women as such, referring to biological features of the gender itself is not perceived as a specific problem to be solved. Female workers are not treated as a vulnerable group which should benefit from additional guarantees in the process of digitalisation. It proves that in digitalised work, sex is not a distinctive feature: both sexes are able and skilled to work with digital devices. Criteria used to identify vulnerable groups refer to social situations rather than sex itself (e.g. education and training, caring responsibilities). However, women tend to constitute the majority of such groups. Therefore, respective ‘horizontal’ protective provisions and standards (e.g. working time, right to disconnect, work-life balance or non-discrimination) are particularly important for women.
