Opis:
A significant limitation to machine tool productivity in high-speed operations is due to inertial vibrations. During strong accelerations, inertial forces generate oscillations that are translated into surface geometrical errors on the machined parts. Machine tools users minimize these problems by reducing machine axes quickness, thus affecting productivity. In this paper the effects of inertial deformations on machine tool accuracy have been studied to evaluate the possibility of adopting a software compensation strategy. The proposed model-based solution, based on a reduced model of the machine tool dynamics, has been tested in a mechatronic simulation environment. In order to meet industrial needs, the compensation scheme has been designed to allow its implementation on standard numerical controllers. A detailed feasibility analysis has been carried out studying all aspects that can potentially impede the application of such approach. Simulations and some preliminary experiment tests prove the effectiveness of the developed technique on a five-axis machining center.

Opis:
In the 21st century, as it is important to produce the products with high accuracy, high quality and eco-friendly, the most of manufacturers need several daring plans, unique ideas and new technologies. For example, in machine tool technology, restraint of vibration on the machine tool was required for high accuracy and quality, and several countermeasures using costly equipment and large quantity of electrical energy were used for the restraint, however those countermeasures are not enough. Therefore a countermeasure of vibration for machine tool using alkaline water with polymer was developed and evaluated. Polyethylene oxide was used for the polymer because of the low cost and the safety for health. Relationship between the mixed polymer in the alkaline water and the damping ratio were firstly investigated. And the optimum percentage of the polymer was decided for restraint of vibration on a machine tool. Then the damper structures using alkaline water with polymer were development, and the three dampers were set for restraint of vibration in the small machine tool; those are the support units, the vise and the head stock. Each damper was evaluated regarding noise and vibration on the machine tool and surface roughness on a work piece in the experiment. It is concluded from the results that; (1) the optimum percentage of the polymer for the damper was 6 wt%, (2) the damper structures using alkaline water with polymer were very effective for restraint of both noise and vibration on the machine tool and smoothly surface on the work piece.

Opis:
Nowadays, eco-friendly manufacture has become common request in the manufacturing and production. The excessive electric power associated with the usage of large amount of oil for cooling and lubrication during machining can increase the CO2 emission which is considered as large problem for environment. On the other hand, the presence of the unwanted vibration during machine can affect the quality of production. The influence of immersed machine tool in strong alkaline water has been investigated in previous work for normal machine operation when no vibration occurred. In present research, the influence of immersed condition to the vibration of the bench lathe machine was investigated. Thermal deformations of the spindle when operating bench lathe coincide with machine resonances were also measured for evaluation of accuracy. The calculation of CO2 emission using immersed bench lathe machine was done by comparing with the conventional machining. It is concluded from the results that; (1) Excellent cooling efficiency can be achieved by using strong alkaline water added with microbubble, (2) Vibration of machine tool was reduced during immersed condition, (3) Thermal deformation of the bench lathe was very small despite no-forced cooling was used, (4) The large number of CO2 that released annually can be reduced by immersed of machine tool.

The main disturbances of the machine tool frame are caused by operation of motion axes. Movement of high dynamic motion axes is connected with powerful force stroke that excite machine tool frame vibration and deteriorate machining surface quality and productivity. There are several possibilities how to suppress this vibration. This deals with the simulation and experimental testing of new advanced conception where the main motor is connected with the frame by an active element that is controlled by intelligent control technique.

Opis:
The vibration of a machine tool is mainly caused by the dynamic acceleration of a motion axis and by the forces that act on it. All the disturbance forces are transmitted to the machine tool frame through the drive (motor) and its regulation loop and they excite its vibrations. Thus the achievable dynamics and machining quality is negatively influenced. There are several possibilities how to suppress the excited vibrations including the recently introduced "motor on motor" technique which is based on the serial connection of two linear motors. This paper presents new simulation results performed on the simulation model of a real machine tool. The maximal achievable tuning of the regulation loop parameters of the motion axis equipped with the "motor on motor" technique was confronted with the conventional feed drive setting. The "motor on motor" feed drive properties were also tested in the virtual machining operation mode where the real measured cutting force was used. The sensitivity analysis of the reaction force and the middle mass movement of the "motor on motor" feed drive solution to the predicted cutting force introduced to the feed drive control has been investigated. The middle mass is represented by the shared part of both linear motors which absorbs the high frequency part of the reaction force by its movement.

Opis:
The paper outlines the idea of using the short-time vibration signal processing for testing machines of a complex design, particularly the machines consisting of many subassemblies with a non-stationary (e.g. cyclic) operation modes. The method presented consists in graphic representation of vibrations of subassemblies in the form of a trace on a plane. It is created by associating instantaneous rms values of vibration acceleration and instantaneous Rice frequency values obtained as a result of short-time signal processing. On the basis of the shape, orientation of the created trajectory and / or dispersion / concentration of points on the Rf - arms plane, the type of non-stationarity of generated vibrations can be identified. The presented methodology can be used for testing machine prototypes. The results in the proposed form can be helpful to determine the type of vibration reduction systems for individual machine subassemblies. It is also possible to detect subassemblies for which an increase in machine capacity results in an increase in the level of generated vibrations. The location of the averaged values of measures obtained for a new machine on the Rf - arms plane can be a reference point for further monitoring of machine vibration and for detection of damage or malfunction of its subassemblies.

Opis:
The problems of tool-workpiece vibration surveillance during machining have been researched. The object of investigation has been analysed, and cutting dynamics and calculation model creation described. Various approaches to and computer simulations of non-stationary model vibration surveillance are explained, based upon optimal spindle speed control and step-changing spindle speed control. A procedure is developed for computer prediction of results of the programme-controlled spindle speed surveillance strategy. Performance results are compared with those measured on a VMC FADAL 4020HT milling machine.

Opis:
Nowadays, feed axes are often equipped with multiple parallel-acting actuators in order to increase the dynamics of the machine tool. Also, additional actuators for active damping are widely used. Normally, the drives or actuators are controlled independently without consideration for the impact on each other. In contrast, by using the modal space control, the system can be decoupled and the modal control loops can be adjusted independently. This control approach is particularly suitable for motion systems, such as machine tools, which have more drives or actuators than degrees of freedom of movement. This paper deals with the pre-investigation of the modal-based vibration control for machine tools with additional actuators. The object of investigation is an elastic system with a movable saddle. The modal-based control is compared with a local control approach. The results obtained experimentally on the test rig are presented. The modal control is superior since, with the modal approach, each control loop corresponds to a specific vibration mode, and the control law for this loop is designed to provide the desired performance of the control system at the corresponding resonance frequency. The parameterisation of the control loops is simplified by modal control, since the modes can be controlled independently.
