Opis:
In this paper, we use an energy variational methodto study the full stress field near a stationary crack in a plane state in a power--law hardening material under mode I liading. Associated with the finite element method the trejectory line fields of the principal stresses and the maximum shear stresses have been drawn in order to determine the crack growth direction. It appears that the crack can propagate along a cleavage band or along a slip band according to the triaxial tensile stress level in the vicnity of the crack. The growth direction of a ductile crack depends on the competition between the stress concentractions along these bands.

Purpose: This study thoroughly examined the application of inverse FE modelling and indentation tensile tests to identify nanotubes' rubber material properties. indentation tensile tests to identify nanotubes' rubber material properties. Design/methodology/approach: Carbon nanotubes with various percentages of multi-walled carbon nanotubes exposed to high tensile stress were used to enhance the mechanical qualities of N.R. rubber. Findings: In this work, carbon nanotubes have been added to natural rubber. By using a solvent casting technique, toluene was used to make nanocomposites. 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8%, and 1%. In this article, rubber and multi-walled carbon nanotubes interact in practical ways. Mechanical features of carbon nanotubes in NR have been researched. The results will lead to rubber products with improved mechanical qualities compared to present nanocomposite rubber containing various percentages of multi-walled carbon nanotubes exposed to large tensile test loading. The relative fitness error for significant stresses is reasonable with a second or third-order deformation model in numerical results. Research limitations/implications: Non-linear finite element analysis is widely used to optimise complicated elastomeric components' design and reliability studies. However, accurate numerical results cannot be achieved without using rubber or rubber nanocomposite materials with reliable strain energy functions. Practical implications: The indentation tensile tests of rubber samples have been simulated and confirmed using a parametric FE model. An inverse materials parameter identification algorithm was used to calculate the hyperelastic material properties of rubber samples evaluated in uniaxial tensile. Using ABAQUS FE software, material parameters and force-displacement data may be automatically updated and extracted. Originality/value: The numerical data for the inverse method of material property prediction has been successfully established by developing simulation spaces for various material characteristics. The force-displacement curve can be represented using technical methods. The results demonstrate that the inverse FE modelling process might be simplified by using these curve fitting parameters and plot equations to build a mathematical link between curve coefficients and material properties. The first, second, and third-order deformation models were tested using FE simulations for the tensile test.

Opis:
Purpose: Rubber is widely used in tires, mechanical parts, and user goods where elasticity is necessary. Some essential features persist unsolved, primarily if they function in excessive mechanical properties. It is required to study elastomeric Rubber's performance, which is operational in high-level dynamic pressure and high tensile strength. These elastomeric aims to increase stress breaking and preserve highly pressurised tensile strength. Design/methodology/approach: The effects of carbon black polymer matrix on the tensile feature of different Rubber have been numerically investigated in this research. Rubber's material characteristics properties were measured using three different percentages (80%, 90%and 100%) of carbon black filler parts per Hundreds Rubber (pphr). Findings: This study found that the tensile strength and elongation are strengthened as the carbon black filler proportion increases by 30%. Practical implications: This research study experimental tests for Rubber within four hyperelastic models: Ogden's Model, Mooney-Rivlin Model, Neo Hooke Model, Arruda- Boyce Model obtain the parameters for the simulation of the material response using the finite element method (FEM) for comparison purposes. These four models have been extensively used in research within Rubber. The hyperelastic models have been utilised to predict the tensile test curves—the accurate description and prediction of elastomer rubber models. For four models, elastomeric material tensile data were used in the FEA package of Abaqus. The relative percentage error was calculated when predicting fitness in selecting the appropriate model—the accurate description and prediction of elastomer rubber models. For four models, elastomeric material tensile data were used in the FEA package of Abaqus. The relative percentage error was calculated when predicting fitness in selecting the appropriate model. Numerical Ogden model results have shown that the relative fitness error was the case with large strains are from 1% to 2.04%. Originality/value: In contrast, other models estimate parameters with fitting errors from 2.3% to 49.45%. The four hyperelastic models were tensile test simulations conducted to verify the efficacy of the tensile test. The results show that experimental data for the uniaxial test hyperelastic behaviour can be regenerated effectively as experiments. Ultimately, it was found that Ogden's Model demonstrates better alignment with the test data than other models.

Opis:
An analytical approach is proposed for studying the elastic-plastic behavior of short fiber reinforced metal matrix composites under tensile loading. In the proposed research, a micro- mechanical approach is employed considering an axi-symmetric unit cell including one fiber and the surrounding matrix. First, the governing equations and the boundary conditions are derived and the elastic solution is obtained based on some shear lag type methods. Since under normal loading conditions and according to the fiber material characteristics the me- tal matrix undergoes plastic deformation, while the fiber remains within the elastic region, a plastic deformation is obtained for the matrix under each small tensile loading step. Then, the elastic-plastic stress transfer behavior of the composite is studied considering this plastic deformation. The results are finally compared with the numerical results obtained from the FE analysis of the considered micromechanical model.

The annulus fibrosus is the primary load-bearing component of the intervertebral disc responsible for proper transfer of loads in the spine. The aim of this study was to determine selected mechanical parameters of multilayer specimens of the annulus fibrosus of the intervertebral disc during uniaxial tensile loading. The anatomical location (anterior/posterior) of the test specimens of the annulus fibrosus and its location along the length of the spine were analysed to determine their impact on the maximum failure force, stiffness, the value of Young’s modulus and dissipated energy. The results indicated high energy losses over the five consecutive precondition loops while the value of the force remained at a constant level. The thoracic and lumbar specimens showed the highest values of the parameters analysed. There were also significant changes depending on the anatomical region of the intervertebral disc, where anterior specimens demonstrated higher mechanical values compared to posterior specimens.

In this paper, a testing method is developed to determine the dynamic stress–strain responses of the polypropylene (PP) under high strain rate uniaxial tension conditions. The main objective of this study is to determine the dynamical behaviour of PP materials under transitory loading. To this effect, an experimental machine using a mixed technique of Hopkinson tension bar and a sensing block system is developed in order to study the dynamic tensile stress–strain behaviour of the low-strength and low mechanical impedance specimen. A pendulum pulse technique is employed in dynamic tension experiments to ensure that valid experimental conditions are satisfied. Results show that, compared with quasi-static behaviour, dynamic tension causes smaller failure strains. Among other, the experimental set-up, mechanical characteristic, dynamic tensile specimen, quasi-static tensile test: stress–strain curve for 0.8 s-1 strain rate, the incident and the transmitted waves recorded by the stain gauges located on the bar and the sensing block under a dynamic tensile test, the axial strain on the specimen versus time under a dynamic tensile test, the axial stress on the specimen versus time under a dynamic tensile test, dynamic tensile test: stress-strain curves of the PPC7712 polymer for various strain rates, the specimens after rupture quasi-static test and dynamic test are presented in the paper.

Opis:
The paper presents a study on the elastic wave propagation in adhesive joints of steel plates subjected to tensile loading. A single lap joint was chosen for analysis because of its simplicity and plurality of applications. Experimental investigations consisted of the uniaxial extension of prepared specimens. Force and displacement values were recorded by a testing machine. Simultaneously, guided Lamb waves were excited and signals of their propagation were collected in a number of points by piezoelectric transducers attached to the specimen surface. Further processing of signals allowed to determine some disturbances in gathered data. The continuous wavelet transform revealed discontinuities in force-displacement relations. The Fourier transform showed changes in frequency values of recorded signals. Large disturbances of the root mean square values were also observed. The results of all analyses allowed to conclude that the identification of partial degradation state before the sample destruction was possible.

Opis:
Purpose: The main purpose of this study was a detailed analysis of the mechanical and structural characteristics of human abdominal aneurysms in comparison with normal abdominal aortae and determination of the correlations between their mechanical behaviour and the microstructural content. Methods: Various mechanical properties, i.e., mechanical failure properties, elastic moduli, inflection point coordinates, index of anisotropy and incompressibility were determined under uniaxial loading conditions in the circumferential and axial directions. Constitutive parameters were derived from the commonly used constitutive model proposed by Holzapfel et al. [9]. The microstructural arrangement was examined by histological staining supported by scanning electron microscopy analysis. The content of collagen fibres and elastic lamellae was tested in relation to mechanical properties and constitutive parameters. Results: Significant differences were found in the microstructural arrangement and layer composition of the aneurysmal specimens, compared to the normal aorta group. The mechanical properties and constitutive parameters of the aneurysmal specimens were significantly altered, indicating a weakening of the load-bearing properties of the walls of the aneurysms. A comparative analysis discovered significant correlations between structural composition and mechanical parameters, in particular with respect to the number of collagen fibres and failure stress, which can be important for clinical evaluation of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) rupture. Conclusions: Changes in the content of collagen fibres and elastic lamellae correlate with mechanical and constitutive parameters, indicating AAA severity

Opis:
The influence of the initial fatigue loading on tensile characteristics of the TiAl6V4 titanium alloy is presented in this work. For cumulative fatigue damage equal to 0.75, a decrease in the pre-fatigue amplitude leads to a lowering in the elongation. Moreover, independent of the amplitude, the loading induces an increase in the yield stress by approximately 100MPa. An increase in the number of pre-fatigue cycles at a constant amplitude results in a decrease in the elongation. Such mechanical behaviour is related to the cyclic hardening effect and the development of fatigue damage, which clearly affects the tensile characteristics of the alloy.

The main object of this paper is to reveal basic response of solid rocket fuels to different working conditions such as variable strain rates or temperature. Experimental data acquired during experimental tests is a base for development of a suitable constitutive model for homogeneous solid propellants. In the world literature there is still insuffcient information about typical mechanical features for considered materials. Universal standards for carrying out typical strength experiments have not yet been fully elaborated for this type of materials. Such problems as quasi-static strain range for solid propellants or so called scale effect are still not standardized. Though, this paper is a next step in preliminary investigation devoted to modeling of nonlinear properties of solid propellants. In particular, the infuence of temperature and strain rate on selected mechanical parameters variations is discussed.
