Opis:
Ensuring the stability of mining excavations is a crucial aspect of underground mining. For this purpose, appropriate shapes, dimensions, and support of workings are designed for the given mining and geological conditions. However, for the proper assessment of the adequacy of the used technical solutions, and the calibration of the models used in the support design, it is necessary to monitor the behavior of the excavation. It should apply to the rock mass and the support. The paper presents the automatic system designed for underground workings monitoring, and the example of its use in the heading. Electronic devices that measure the rock mass movements in the roof, the load on the standing support, and on bolts, the stress in the rock mass, are connected to the datalogger and can collect data for a long of time without any maintenance, also in hard-to-reach places. This feature enables the system to be widely used, in particular, in excavations in the vicinity of exploitation, goafs, or in the area of a liquidated exploitation field.

Opis:
According to Polish law, it is prohibited to perform excavations or locate buildings closer than 50 m from the embankment. In order to obtain exemption from this ban, filtration and stability analysis of the embankment and excavation in the flood conditions have to be performed. This paper presents results of the numerical investigations on interactions between excavations and embankment. Complex nature of the problem is presented. Methodology of numerical simulations and real case examples are described.

Opis:
Recognition of properties of the rock mass surrounding a mineral deposit is particularly important for the mining operations at greater depths. Since the rock mass is usually not homogeneous, and its parameters have characteristics of randomness, underground workings safety issue should always be analysed taking into account the dispersion of the values of these parameters around their mean values. In order to assess the impact of geotechnical parameters uncertainty on the excavation stability one uses the appropriate statistical approach. In this paper, by analysing successive combinations of geomechanical parameters of the rock in the measured range, we examined the effect of their variability on risk of underground excavation instability using response surface method.

Opis:
The article presents the results of the analysis data of the roof rocks geotechnical parameters in the conditions of the deep copper ore of the KGHM Polish Cooper mines. Using single factor analysis of variance and comparing means in two samples, the significance of differences between individual lithological layers (dolomite, anhydrite and rocks on their contact (dolomite-anhydrite breccia)) was evaluated in the aspect of constructing numerical simulations of the behavior of roof rocks above mining excavations. Based on the results of previous studies described in the works (Galiński 2005; Galiński, Lis and Mróz 2003), it was proposed to use Fisher–Snedecor analysis and t-Student test in order to justify the decision to consider individual lithological layers in numerical modeling of the rock mass around mining excavations. The problem raised in the article concerns the selection of lithological layers consider in numerical models of rock mass. Assuming too general (average values) physico-mechanical parameters in the simulation will generate incorrect results. On the other hand, consider of more lithological layers with insignificantly different physico-mechanical parameters may prove unnecessary, because this will not affect the accuracy of the results obtained.
