This paper presents test results of shooting resistance of non-metallic materials such as ceramics, rubber, glass reinforced plastic (GRP), natural and modified wood. It was demonstrated that GRP samples 16 mm thick protected with ceramic plates 10 mm thick can be considered bullet-proof against bullets of 7.62 mm caliber. And, multi-layer plate with a core of natural or modified wood cannot be taken as a bullet-proof material against 7.62 mm bullets.

The paper presents a general procedure to solve nume‐ rically optimal control problems with state constraints. It is used in the case, when the simple time discretization of the state equations and expressing the optimal cont‐ rol problem as a nonlinear mathematical programming problem is too coarse. It is based on using in turn two multiple shooting BVP approaches: direct and indirect. The paper is supplementary to the earlier author’s paper on direct and indirect shooting methods, presenting the theory underlying both approaches. The same example is considered here and brought to an end, that is two full listings of two MATLAB codes are shown.

The paper presents work on the development of a thermal target providing for shooting with the use of night-vision and thermovision sights in night conditions as well as during the day, without changing the target. The image of the target in the night sight is visible by illuminating it through an IR lamp. The target is designed so that the reflected IR stream is directed towards the objective lens. Compared to existing solutions, the new thermal target has a number of advantages, such as it does not require long-time heating and is immediately ready to operate after thermal lamp lighting, significantly reducing energy consumption. The project is currently at the stage of prototype target testing.

The paper presents the principle of operation of a new night-shooting target. Because this target requires a covering that reflects the infrared radiation flux generated by the reflector from its surface, testing of different variants of the cover and the shape of the target surface has been carried out. Emissivity is a physical parameter characterizing the radiant properties of real bodies. The emissivity coefficient of extruded aluminum sheet samples covered with a layer of green colored aluminum oxide was determined. The aluminum oxide layer was applied using two different technologies being galvanic and anodizing.

Opis:
The results of investigations of sand shooting into the core box are presented in the hereby paper. The investigations concern the formation of the diphase sand-air flux, its motion, flowing and compaction in the cavity during the core forming. Conditions deciding on the course of individual phases of the process are discussed with taking into consideration the influence of such factors as: the shot pressure, shooting hole diameter, number and distribution of deaerating vents in experimental core boxes (of a single cavity and of multi cavities) on the core sand compaction state. Investigations were performed by means of the modernised experimental shooting machine SR-3D, of the shooting chamber volume of 3.3 dm3, connected with the system of pneumatic supply ensuring the stable pressure supply of values: 0.4 MPa, 0.5 MPa and 0.6 MPa. Two diameters of the shooting hole, equal 10 mm and 20 mm, were applied for filling three experimental core boxes differing in dimensions of cavities and in number and distribution of deaerating vents. The filling process of core boxes was recorded by means of the digital camera PHANTOM V210 with the filming rate of 3000 pictures in second. Simultaneously, during the shot, other values allowing to determine the intensity of the core sand outflow from the shooting chamber to the core box, were tested. The presented in this publication results constitute the important element of the experimental verification of the blowing process simulation calculations which will be performed.

Opis:
The article deals with the problem of acoustic modelling of sport and hunting shooting ranges for the purposes of carrying out acoustic impact assessments on the environment. The fashion for recreational shooting and the dynamic development of shooting ranges resulted in conflict situations between the shooting range and the residents. Increasingly, the condition for allowing the shooting range to be used is to carry out an acoustic analysis to confirm the lack of noise nuisance. Therefore, it is necessary to develop guidelines for acoustic modelling of shooting ranges, taking into account their purpose and types of shooting axes. Each of the shooting axes is designed for a different type of shooting and thus has different acoustic characteristics. In the article, the author presents a method of modelling noise emissions from the shooting range on the example of one of the popular shooting competitions which is the hunting trap. First, acoustic measurements of the unit noise source related to the firing of shots by a firearms shooter were made. Then the directional characteristics of this source were determined, the shooting axis of the “hunting trap” type was modelled during a typical shooting competition and its directionality was determined. Then, on the example of a specific shooting range, the possibility of using the results to analyse the propagation of noise into the environment during typical shootings on the trap axis was presented.

Opis:
The paper is devoted to stability investigation of optimal structure and switching points position for parametric bang-bang control problem with special focus on simultaneous switches of two control components. In contrast to problems where only simple switches occur, the switching points in general are no longer differentiable functions of input parameters. Conditions for Lipschitz stability are found which generalize known sufficient optimality conditions to nonsmooth situation. The analysis makes use of backward shooting representation of extremals, and of generalized implicit function theorems. The Lipschitz properties are illustrated for an example by constructing backward parameterized family of extremals and providing first-order switching points prediction.

Opis:
The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in five kinematic variables (internal knee and elbow angles, elbow height, forearm angle from vertical, and shoulder flexion angle at ball release) between proficient and non-proficient free throw shooters and which variables had the greatest contributions to a successful free throw shooting outcome. Seventeen male basketball players shoot three sets of 10 free throws with a two-minute break between each set. A three-dimensional motion tracking system composed of 17 sensors sampling at 60 Hz was used for data collection. Proficient free throw shooters had greater knee and elbow flexion, lower elbow height, and a smaller forearm angle compared to non-proficient shooters. These results explained 89.5% of the total variance. While maintaining the optimal range of these kinematic variables allows each subject to reach an appropriate level of free throw shooting performance, the key variable capable of distinguishing between made and missed shots within the proficient group of shooters was the forearm angle. Positioning the forearm parallel, or close to parallel, with an imaginary vertical line during the preparatory phase of the shooting motion accounted for 23.9% of the total variance and was associated with a greater number of made shots.

Model considered estimations of isolated shooting errors initiated by barrel jumping after each particular bullet as the research of particular characteristic important for gun mounting on the mobile platforms. Sequential influences of barrel disturbances are included in the initial ballistics derivations independent of vehicle turret and undercarriage. Expected disturbance magnitudes are analyzed during and beyond shooting for the particular bullet in the ripple. Shooting ripple errors are analyzed according to the angular disturbances transposed to the projectile initial ballistic elements. Rate of barrel impeachments during firing is taken as the element of projectile spin disturbance. Barrel system with appropriate recoil equipment is taken as the rigid body model in the first approximation. Behaviour of 40 mm automatic gun as the possible concept aimed at the shooting with small elevation angles, as mounted on the mobile combat platforms was tested. Ballistic testing of real projectiles on the proving ground is used as reference to selected gun particular errors. Further extended research was directed to the system’s acceptable accuracy and stability in the cases of gun mounting on the Armour Personal Carrier (APC).

Opis:
The intensive development of sport shooting and the significant increase in the number of people using sport and recreational shooting ranges also increases the risk of hearing damage to shooters, due to exposure to impulse noise from the shots of firearms. This article discusses the methodology for assessing shooters’ exposure to noise and identifies and extensively discusses possible ways to minimise this exposure. It then describes a research experiment carried out to measure and calculate the effectiveness of noise reduction by means of acoustic silencers when shooting with typical weapons in the most popular sporting and hunting calibres. The experiment also included firing tests with subsonic ammunition. On this basis, conclusions were drawn regarding the possibility of reducing impulse noise during shooting and the possibility of eliminating the risk of hearing damage.
