Opis:
This study investigates the automotive magnetorheological (MR) shock absorber behaviour in conditions of changing temperature. Its temperature-dependent behaviour was quantified between ambient and maximal operating temperatures of the device. Aspects addressed include the temperature dependence of the control coil resistance in the absorber, the influence of operating current level on control coil temperature and the temperature dependence of the absorber force response and energy dissipation in the system. The results of experiments enabled us to evaluate the mechanical performance of the absorber at varied temperatures.

PURPOSE: The main purpose of this article is to present the activities of countries actively participating in the global crude oil market, which have a key impact on economic processes on a global scale. The actions of OPEC countries use crude oil as an instrument in the international economic policy to influence changes both in the global economy and the geopolitical dimension. It is important to identify and discuss the events that provided a benchmark for OPEC+ countries to take actions on the global oil market in 2020 to try to change the share of the global oil market in an geopolitical aspect. DESIGN/METHOD: The research methods used in this article are the critical literature analysis and numerical data analysis. In this study, the author presents the statement that resource-rich countries increasingly treat crude oil as a tool in the economic policy to influence changes in economic processes on a global scale in order to increase their competitive position, as well as to deliberately create the negative phenomena in a form of price wars that only serve to achieve the set goals in the economic policy of these countries. RESULTS/FINDINGS: The obtained research results-reveal that conscious creation of price wars, the occurrence of oil crises on the global oil market, or the possession of significant deposits of the raw material in question, are treated by the governments of countries worldwide as a tool in itself in order to conduct the economic policy of countries, taking into account the overarching aspect of the broad impact on the manner of conducting the international economic policy of countries on the global oil market. The world the oil market experienced several significant events that caused strong changes from the point of view of the development of the world economy. Decisions held within the framework of the OPEC (and OPEC+) organisation have a narrower impact on the global oil market, however, within a wider global economy they affect the global economic processes. In conjunction with the Covid-19 pandemic, the policy of OPEC+ organisation is affecting the geopolitical changes and the foreign economic policy of every country in the world. ORIGINALITY/VALUE: The contribution to the development of the discipline is the presentation of the events and activities of countries actively participating in the global oil market in 2020, as an attempt to gain a competitive advantage and changes in the geopolitical aspect.

Opis:
International collaboration in education has resulted in an increasing number of participants in educational exchanges at various stages of education. Taking part in a foreign intercultural exchange is an important experience, associated with a half a year or a year-long immersion in another culture and with the return home. Changing the residence country for a certain period, learners consciously undertake the tasks aimed at familiarization with the new culture, language, customs or behaviours. Few of them think about the difficulties associated with the comeback. The presented research results show that, during the exchange, learners were able to build their strategy of functioning in the host family and country. As a result, this helped them to handle the difficulties of the reverse culture shock, which is manifested by the optimistic-active strategy applied by most of the learners after returning home.

Opis:
The aim of this study is to analyse changes in employment and their determi nants in twenty sectors of economic activity in Poland during the COVID-19 pandemic. ehT study focuses on the direct short-run employment eefcts. eTh changes in employ ment in the pandemic period (restricted to 2020q2-2021q2) with the changes in the pre-pandemic period (2015q1-2020q1) are compared. Statistics Poland and Eurostat are the sources of data. eTh analyses are based on quarterly and annual frequencies and cover the period from 2015q1 to 2021q2. Changes in employment are explained by the changes in gross value added, the diefrences in elasticities of employment with respect to the gross value added and the impact of the pandemic period. The results suggest that employment was aefcted by a reallocation shock-a decrease in employ ment that occurred in some sectors (e.g. arts, entertainment and recreation) was associated with an increase in other sectors (e.g. human health and social work activities).

Opis:
According to cytokine overtraining theory, skeletal muscle injuries are related to systemic inflammatory reaction. In response to inflammation, cells rapidly produce a series of proteins known as heat shock proteins (HSPs).These are considered to be molecular chaperones which play a universal role in maintaining cellular homeostasis. Among the subset of stress-responsive proteins, HSP27 and HSP70 are considered to be a new approach to monitoring exercise training and adaptive mechanisms. The study was designed to demonstrate the effect of sport training on changes in pro-inflammatory cytokines and HSPs, and their relation with muscle damage and body composition. Six elite canoeists (19.8 ±2.9 yr) were observed during preparatory training period (March) at the 1st, the 4th and after 7 days of the conditioning camp, and then after 3 days of recovery. The canoeing training did not induce muscle damage, decreased in IL-1β and HSP27, increased in TNFα and HSP70 concentrations. The highest changes in TNFα and HSP70 were observed 3 days after conditioning camp (during recovery) compared to initial level (the 1st day of conditioning camp). TNFα correlated with HSP27 (r = –0.563; P < 0.01) and HSP70 (r = 0.651; P < 0.001). Any significant changes in body composition were not observed. In conclusion, we could say that typical canoeing training improves cytokines and HSPs release, however, the changes are not related to muscle damage.

Opis:
Pulsed power discharge applied in air to the amber surface was found to cause improvement in its appearance and color changes such as to red, a color not natural to amber but attractive for jewelry. Needle and plate electrodes were used during experiments. Pulsed power discharges in air particularly turned amber red at the edges and around the needle electrode. Discharges in water did not change amber structure because discharge occurring on the surface does not cross the amber structure. Discharges in silicone oil had a different effect, with most discharge passing through the amber structure, causing fine cracks. Unfortunately, the absence of a consistent amber structure causes difficulty in selecting the correct discharge (shock wave) power. Using new technology, we have changed the appearance a very old material-amber (about 40 – 60 million years old) – to make it more attractive for customers; this technology is also useful for detecting artificial amber (costume jewellery) without causing damage to the product.
