Introduction. Sexuality is an inseparable attribute of humans that makes it possible to take new challenges connected with it at every stage of life and to enjoy its new aspects as well as to accept the resulting restrictions. Aim. The objective of this study was to compare how sexual activity changes in different age groups. An important step in achieving the main objective was to determine the age of sexual initiation, the number of sexual partners and the most commonly used methods of preventing pregnancy. Material and methods. The study was conducted between 2010 and 2013 among 924 persons. The respondents were the students of secondary schools, technical schools, post-secondary schools and the University of Rzeszów. Results. Two-thirds of a group aged 16-18 did not start sexual relations. Only 2% of the respondents at the age groups of 16- 18,19-23 and only 1% of the respondents at the age group of 24-48 began having sexual relations under the age of 15. 67% of adolescents from big cities began sexual relations. 33% of the secondary schools/technical schools respondents, 51% of the post-secondary schools respondents, 35% of a higher education institution respondents most commonly use condoms as a method of contraception. Conclusions. The average age of sexual initiation is gradually decreasing in each age group. Most respondents declare having one sexual partner. The respondents from big cities more often begin sexual relations. Condoms are the most commonly used method of contraception among the respodents in all age groups.

Opis:
Introduction: Proctocolectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis is the gold standard in the surgical treatment of patients with ulcerative colitis, familial adenomatous polyposis and other colorectal diseases requiring colectomy. The treatment consists in removing the large intestine and creating an intestinal reservoir from the last ileum loop and then anastomosing the intestinal reservoir with the anal canal. Like any surgical procedure, RPC-IPAA also carries the risk of complications, both early and late. Late postoperative complications include sexual dysfunction. Aim: The main goal of the following work is to assess the quality of life and sexual activity in patients having undergone the RPC-IPAA procedure at the General and Colorectal Surgery Clinic. Material and methods: The study group consisted of patients aged 19–79 who had been subjected to RPC-IPAA procedures at the General and Colorectal Surgery Clinic in years 2010–2019. The study was conducted on the basis of a survey consisting of 50 questions about the social and mental condition, medical history and previous treatment as well as the quality of sexual life before and after surgery. The scale used for the assessment of the quality of sex life consisted of 5 grades: very low, low, medium, high, very high. Thirty subjects (21 men and 9 women) took part in the survey. Ulcerative colitis (86.6%) was the most common reason for qualification for restorative proctectomy among the examined patients; less common reasons included familial adenomatous polyposis (13.3%) and synchronous colorectal cancer (3.3%). A vast majority of the surgeries had been performed after 10 years’ duration of ulcerative colitis, and the intestinal reservoir had been functioning for over a year at the time of the examination. In addition, the effect of taking steroids and the impact of early postoperative complications on the quality of sex life of patients was assessed. Results: High or very high sexual activity before surgery was reported by 46% of patients whereas low or very low quality was reported by 13%. The rest of the responders assessed their pre-operative sexual activity as average. After surgery, 23% of patients rated their sexual activity as high or very high while 36.6% of patients rated it as low or very low (P = 0.07). It was also noted that taking corticosteroids before surgery decreased the quality of sex life after surgery (P = 0.07 for activity, P = 0.04 for quality). None of the women surveyed used artificial moisturizing of intimate places during sex. Only 1 person stated that they started using artificial moisturization of intimate places after the procedure (P = 0.5). None of the men surveyed had used pharmacological agents to help them obtain an erection before surgery while as many as 33% of responders reported the need for their use after surgery (P = 0.008). Other postoperative sexual dysfunctions were also registered, such as dyspareunia (13.3%), sensory disorder within the intimate region, fecal incontinence, and urinary incontinence. Conclusions: To sum up, sexual activity and quality of sexual life deteriorated after RPC-IPAA in our patients.

Opis:
Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among women. The most common form of treatment of this illness is a surgical intervention consisting of a partial or radical mastectomy. This article describes the psychological impacts of this experience on the frequency and occurrence of complications in the sexual activity of women and to determine the role that medical staff can play in helping patients cope with these challenges. The loss of a breast can have negative effects on a woman’s emotional state, specifically in terms of feeling feminine and the relationship with her partner. This is often reflected in a reduced quality of life. The care extended to post-mastectomy patients should routinely include an assessment of possible sexual dysfunctions and monitoring of how such dysfunctions are coped with. The PLISSIT model makes it possible to indicate how post-mastectomy patients may be effectively supported by medical staff. It serves to define a group of patients requiring specialist help. It also aims to initiate a conversation about the difficulties of functioning in this sphere, to provide general information and change existing perceptions, to give specific advice on making referrals to a specialist, and to consider these types of existing problems. The described intervention model is applicable to individual work, as well as to work with couples and groups. This method depends on the type of intervention desired and on the current psychophysical state of the patient and her readiness to start a conversation concerning sexual activity.

Opis:
Objectives: To investigate associations between sexual intercourse and sleep quality and duration, controlling for a range of confounders, in a large, representative sample of older English adults. Methods: Data were from 2,743 men and 2,990 women aged ? 50 years, participating in the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing. Participants reported whether or not they had engaged in sexual activity in the last year, and those who were sexually active reported frequency of intercourse in the past month. Information on sleep disturbance and duration and socio-demographic and health-related covariates was also collected. Findings: Being sexually active was not associated with sleep disturbance or sleep duration. Men who had less frequent intercourse reported greater sleep disturbance than those who reported no sexual intercourse (OR=1.29, 95% CI 1.02-1.65), but had lower odds of reporting longer than optimal sleep duration (OR=0.45, 95% CI 0.24-0.86). Men who engaged in sexual intercourse once a week or more (OR=0.43, 95% CI 0.23-0.80) also had lower odds of long sleep relative to those who reported no sexual intercourse. Women who engaged in more frequent (? once a week) intercourse reported less sleep disturbance than those who reported no sexual intercourse in the last month (OR=0.68, 95% CI 0.53-0.86), and women who reported sexual intercourse once in the past month had lower odds of long sleep (OR=0.51, 95% CI 0.26-0.996). Conclusions: In a population-based sample of older men and women in England, there was inconsistent evidence of an association between sexual activity and sleep disturbance and sleep duration.

Opis:
Introduction: In the up-to date Polish literature there is a small number of research available on the sexuality during pregnancy, therefore, the aim of this study was to analyse the sexual behaviour of pregnant women and to identify factors affecting the development of selected sexual preferences. Material and Methods: The studied group consisted of 100 women. The respondents were in the third trimester of pregnancy or immediately after birth, living in and around Łańcut. As a method it was used the author’s questionnaire combined with questions derived from the standardized questionnaire FSI-Female Sexual Function Index. Results: As for the requested group, 67% of respondents felt sexually attractive during pregnancy. The main motivators for making intercourse during pregnancy included: achievement of pleasure, intimacy with the partner, avoidance of husband’s dissatisfaction (p = 0.0001). The level of satisfaction coming from emotional closeness with the partner during sexual activity depends on the length of marriage experience (p = 0.0182) – the shorter, the bigger satisfaction of intimacy. The main reason for decrease in sexual activity in the second trimester is fatigue, and it concerned 70% of respondents. The positions preferred during intercourse by respondents in the third trimester of pregnancy were standing, lateral, posterior (p = 0.0009). Conclusions: The study indicates that the vast majority of women are satisfied with their sexual activity during pregnancy. Determinants of this activity are: age of respondents, length of marriage, occurrence of pregnancy symptoms , period of pregnancy together with the selfevaluation of their physical condition.
Główne motywatory do podejmowania współżycia w ciąży to: osiągnięcie przyjemności, bliskości z partnerem, uniknięcie niezadowolenia męża (p = 0,0001).

Opis:
Adolescence is a critical period in which sexual behavior patterns are established and sexuality-related norms are formed. In this process, the development of sexual scripts plays an important role. The present contribution focuses on those elements in the scripts for consensual sexual interactions that are linked to an increased risk of sexual aggression and victimization (such as alcohol consumption, casual sex, ambiguous communication). Study 1 presents longitudinal findings showing that the risk factors of sexual aggression become more prominent in adolescents’ scripts as they start being sexually active and that the risk elements of sexual scripts are enacted in sexual behavior. Study 2 shows that the risk elements in sexual scripts predict the likelihood of sexual aggression and victimization nine months later. Finally, Study 3 demonstrates that adolescents’ use of violent pornography is linked to a greater acceptance of sexual aggression, which is mediated by a greater prominence of risk elements of sexual aggression in their sexual scripts.

Opis:
Introduction: Young people serving as volunteers in international projects show a different risk profile to “normal” travellers. Data are scarce. While infectious risks were published elsewhere we focus now on non-infectious risks. Material and methods: 153 questionnaires, obtained from volunteers returning from their project were evaluated. Questions included age, situation abroad (living space and work), travel experience, region of the project, language skills, pre-travel advise, type of problems abroad (accidents, traffic, violence, robbery, sexual assault, psychosocial stress etc.). Results: Several factors, normally not included in pre-travel advice, cause significant psychosocial stress which decreases a bit during the stay. Special problems are insufficient language skills, (subjective) safety at night, traffic / transport, and violence. Psychosocial stress was the most important reason to stop the activity and to return home ahead of schedule (4% of all volunteers). Conclusions: Pre-travel advice of young volunteers should include psychosocial factors and other topics additional to infectious diseases, vaccination, and hygiene. Sufficient training in common but minor medical problems (headache, sunburn, minor wounds) is a “must”. A comprehensive advice and training may need two days and may be realized in groups of 5 to 12 participants. Health and safety should become a more important topic of all projects.

The paper undertakes the issues of epidemiology, conditions, and treatment of eating disorders in men, which are not widely recognised both in Polish and international research. The text is based on desk research analysis of research reports on eating disorders. Authors discuss the issue of eating disorders in the context of gender, indicating that the clinical picture of them (including the perception of one's own body, the ways and motives for striving for a perfect figure) is mainly related to the stereotypical roles and tasks that society and culture impose on men and women. The empirical material analysis allows us to assume that ED symptoms in men are more often (than in the case of women) related to (self) stigmatisation, diagnosis difficulty, coexistent dimorphic disorders, substance addictions, and more significant physical activity.ty.

In the present study, reproductive stimuli and fertility effect of raw extract of Clitoria ternatea (RECT) was administered orally at the doses of 250 mg/kg body weight of female rat for a period of 30 days and normal clean water (Normal slain 0.9%, 0.5 ml/kg per day) to control groups. There were no significance changes in the body weight of RECT treated group when compared to control group. RECT treated female rat group vigorously mated with male when allowed on estrus phase of female rat observed in vaginal smears. The serum estradiol level was increased (P < 0.05) significantly. Administered the RECT showed no significant change in the biochemical parameters and hematological parameters of RBC, WBC count when compared to control group. It is concluded that the test of RECT could be due to its reproductive effect in female rat.
