Opis:
This paper performs the fatigue life analysis of the radial Cylindrical Roller Bearings (CRBs) with consideration of various roller end-flange shapes such as toroidal-toroidal, spherical-toroidal, and spherical-conical. A novel formula for each flange contact deformation in cylindrical roller bearing with different roller end-flange geometry including toroidal geometry is developed. Inner ring misalignment angle and radial deflection results obtained from the present study are verified with numerical and experimental results from the literature. The results approach to that of literature when the flange is changed from toroidal geometry to conical geometry. Using formulas developed in the present study, the effect of various roller end-flange geometries on the bearing life is investigated for different external loadings. It is observed that the bearing life increases when the roller end and flange are changed to toroidal geometry.

Opis:
The method for reduction of valve timing movable masses, by the use of composite cams for camshaft, which mate with roller tappet, is presented. It has been carried out an analysis of stresses under the surface of the cam using the methodology and computer programs allowing the synthesis and analysis of the cam mechanism, and to estimate the fatigue life, as well as using the finite element method. Mating roller tappets with a light camshaft, forged from TiAl alloy, can be done if the camshaft has steel caps set under the pressure on the surfaces their cams. The problem, however, is the formation of high stress in the Bielaiev point, when a roller tappet mates with segment cam. Because of the certainty for the cap fixing, it is assumed that the depth for the Bielaiev point should not exceed half the thickness of the cap. The stress analysis shows, that exceeding of the material yield strength is controlled by the interference value between the cam and its cap and by the apex radius of the cam. Effect of contact stress is at least an order of magnitude smaller. The maximum depth of the Bielaiev point does not exceed 0.09 mm, which is about half the thickness of the proposed cap. There is a need not for too small radii between the cam and the apical cap. Optimal selection of proper geometry of the cam will be easier after a proper modification of the program used for the synthesis and analysis of the cam mechanism, such that it is possible to ask any operational surface of the cam profile.

Opis:
A volume and a shape of the briquettes agglomerated in a roller press depend largely on the material properties, the design features of a roller press, and it is a complicated issue. Correctly, selected geometric parameters of the briquettes determine the proper strength of the consolidated product. The paper presents the laboratory and simulation experiments conducted to obtain knowledge about volume and shape of the roller press briquettes. The main elements of the roller press compacting unit are the forming rollers. They are located horizontally in some roller presses of low efficiency they can be placed vertically. The shape of working surface, the volume of the melding cavities and the characteristics of the briquetted material have an important role in terms of the effects of the briquetting process especially the cost of operating of the roller press. The paper presents the description of the basic shapes of forming surfaces used in the roller presses and it systematises the knowledge of the shape and volume of briquettes produced in the roller presses on the basis of own laboratory and simulation researches. The information contained in the article can be very useful for designers of roller presses and their users. Further work should be continued to verify the results of tests on other materials and laboratory conditions.

Opis:
The paper presents a computational model of the load distribution between elements in a planetary roller screw. The idea of the model is to consider the deformations of rolling elements as deformations of rectangular volumes subjected to shear stresses. The contact deformations of threads and the deformations of screw and nut cores are taken into account by a properly chosen shear modulus. This modulus is computed on the basis of stiffness determined using the finite element method. Based on the relation between displacements and forces differential equations are obtained. The solution to these equations is a hyperbolic function that illustrates the load distribution on the threads between cooperating elements. The following considerations are carried out to assess the suitability of the analytical model for the preliminary design and analysis of this type of transmissions.

Opis:
The brake roller is one of the elements for the safe operation of gravity flow pallet racks. The brake roller of the magnetic (eddy current) type magnetic brake roller (MBR) is the most promising brake type. The working principle of the MBR is based on electromagnetic induction laws, according to which the braking of a conductor moving in the magnetic field is caused by the interaction of the conductor's eddy currents with the external magnetic field. In the paper, a mathematical model of the pallet motion on an MBR was developed. The equation of motion of the pallet on the MBR was derived. The calculation results were compared with the results of experimental studies of the pallet motion velocity on the MBR. For pallet speed under “drag peak” speed, the error of the mathematical model is <7.7%, and the error starts increasing once over the “drag peak” speed. Additional investigation of the coefficient of magnetic viscosity for speeds greater than the “drag peak” speed is required.

Opis:
There are few studies concerning the process simulation of vertical roller mills (VRMs). In this research work, the application of population balance model for simulation of a VRM in a cement clinker grinding circuit was investigated. The residence time distribution (RTD) was measured, and the tank-in-series and Weller models were employed to describe the residence time distribution. Two sampling surveys were carried out on the VRM circuit. The data from the first survey were used for model calibration, and the specific breakage rates were back-calculated. The model parameters obtained were used for simulation of the second survey, and validation of the model. The results showed that the clinker particle spent a short time inside the VRM and the mean residence time is about 67s. The tanks-in series model compares to Weller model was more proper to describe the residence time distributions in the VRM. The simulation results showed that the specific breakage rates increased with increasing particle size. However, the particles larger than 25.4 mm particles sizes are too large to be properly nipped by master rollers. Finally, it can be concluded that the grinding process of the VRM is very well-predictable with the population balance model.

The paper presents an analysis of the specific dynamic capacity of a planetary roller screw including random deviations of the thread pitch. Results are based on a statistical analysis of loads between the screw and the roller obtained for the accepted bar model to determine the load distribution. Furthermore, the finite element analysis has been applied to determine stiffness coefficients of the screw-roller and the roller-nut cooperation. The purpose of the following considerations is to assess a decrease in the specific dynamic capacity of the planetary roller screw depending on random deviations of the thread pitch.

The sign of the so-called human engineering policy introduced in the industry is decreasing the occupational hazards and making the workplaces as comfortable as possible. That tendency finds expression in the tightened industrial safety-code. Among the annoying /damaging physical factors occurred in the workplace environment, the noise is of especially great importance. One of the most active noise sources in the warehouse systems are the conveyor lines for continuous transport of palletized load units. The measurement results of the main acoustic quantities in the zone of the heavy switch unit in the roller conveyor line are presented. The noise hazards, the speech intelligibility and the perception of the warning acoustic signal in this area are determined.

In the current investigation, two primary indicators, including the average roughness (AR) and Brinell hardness (BH) of the roller burnishing operation are enhanced using the optimal inputs (the spindle speed-S, feed rate-f, and depth of penetration-D). The performance measures are developed using the Kriging approach and optimal outcomes are generated by the Crow Search Algorithm (CSA). The optimal outcomes generated by the CSA of the S, f, and D were 832 rpm, 112 mm/min, and 0.12 mm, while the AR was reduced by 37.0% and the BH was increased by 29.9%, respectively. The optimal findings could be utilized in the practice for enhancing the burnished quality and to develop a professional system related to the roller burnishing operation. The Kriging-based AR and BH correlations could be used to present nonlinear experimental data. The optimizing technique could be utilized to deal with optimizing problems for different machining operations.

The roller-bearings are the most widely used appliances of the engine's fittings. The regular use of the roller-bearings leads to their degradation and subsequently to their damage. In extreme situations, the damaged roller-bearing can come to a standstill leading to the engine's failure. As for the maintenance of the engine, it would be crucial to work out the methods of supporting the diagnosis of the engine's fittings and its elements. The methods would enable to determine the condition of measure without the need ofthe disassembly. The vibroacoustic methods present the greatest possibilities in that field. The authors attempted to realize that task for a chosen element of the combustion engine's fittings in a car. The article presents the results ofthe conducted research and the study concerning the diagnosis of the bearing's timing belt tensioner pulley. The investigation was conducted for new roller-bearings as well as damaged. Different values of tension in investigations were applied by timing belt, which were placed for help of instrument PR-20. The accelerations of radial vibrations of screw fixing the tensioner pulley were measured during experiments. The recording of accelerations of vibrations was done for different constant engine speeds. The results ofthe research were analyzed by using software MatLab. The study indicated the measure sensitive to the changes of the technical condition of the tested element. The findings obtained confirm the usefulness of the presented method which in the form of a suitable algorithm may use as the basis for creating a diagnostic device.

The effect of roller burnishing on Vickers’ hardness and positron lifetimes in the AZ91HP magnesium alloy was studied. The microhardness increases with an increase in the burnishing force and with a decrease in the feed. The comparison of various methods of analysis of positron annihilation lifetime (PAL) spectra allowed identification of two components, which are related to solute-vacancy complexes and vacancy clusters, respectively. It was found that the increase in microhardness was related to the increase in the concentration of vacancy clusters.
