Obesity is a significant social and health problem of societies world wide. Nowadays, the percentage of children suffering from overweight is increasing. This is the result of nutrition mistakes done during the first years of a young person’s life, and the lack of parental knowledge about the rules of proper nutrition. School-aged children suffering from overweight are clearly exposed to obesity in adulthood. The authors undertook to assess the nutritional habits of children attending primary schools located in the province of Lublin. The survey was conducted among a group of 150 students from three primary schools in the Lublin province. As a research method, the authors set up a survey in the printed version. The data obtained were compiled and analyzed in the Statistica 13™ (DellSoftware, USA). Over one-third (36.7%) of the children taking part in the study eat the recommended daily number of meals. Eating in the intervals between the main meals is often observed among the respondents (77.3%). Daily consumption of dairy products was declared by 20.8% of girls and 35.6% of boys. In questions about the promotion of healthy eating programs carried out at schools, the “Fruit and Vegetables at School” program was the most popular. The children who took part in the study showed mostly incorrect eating habits. The current situation requires further research and taking decisive steps by healthcare professionals, educators and parents. Consistent steps in existing programs promoting a healthy eating style will improve the epidemiological situation of abnormal nutrition among early-childhood children in the near future.

The aim of the article is to present the assumptions of the prevention of sexual violence against children in the school environment. Child sexual abuse has become a global problem that affects not only the family environment, but educational institutions as well. One example of such an institution is a school where, under the guise of upbringing, there may be numerous abuses committed by people who are an authority in the child’s life. School staff members are often unaware of institutional grooming and its perpetrators, which means that the entire institution may unknowingly contribute to promoting child sexual abuse. The author first presents the methods of grooming used by perpetrators, pointing to activities aimed at children and the mechanisms of institutional grooming that may create a specific culture that makes it difficult to protect children. The author then presents the standards and strategies for prevention in schools, paying attention to the need to involve the entire community: conducting proper recruitment and training of employees and constructing preventive programs adapted to the age and development of children and their proper implementation.

Opis:
Aim. In order to provide a complete image of this phenomenon in the world and how different countries are dealing with it, I analysed some reasearch regarding the methods of prevention and intervention in cyberbullying that they have adopted. Methods. After studying the programs implemented in other countries, I counducted a research on 22 psychologists from Romania in order to find out their oppionions about these programs. Conclusions. The results of this research study showed that the intervention and prevention programs adopted by different countries are esential in reduction of the cyberbullying cases, but these programs have to be combined with personalised intervention.

Peat forest plays a principal role in climate change mitigation in Indonesia. Considering the potential releases of GHGs from a forest fire and degraded peatland, it is important to conserve peatland forests. Besides being essential for ecological balancing, the role of peatland forest expands to the economic and social aspects. The purpose of this research was to calculate $CO_2$ emissions that can be avoided by the community-based fire prevention and rewetting program. This research utilized spatial analysis to calculated avoided $CO_2$ emissions in six villages in Central Kalimantan. Data and information for the calculation were generated from field observations, interviews, and desk study. Spatial analysis using Arc GIS 10.5 was applied to compute the incombustible areas. The result from the analysis found that fire prevention and rewetting programs managed to prevent approximately 1 million Mg C or equivalent to 3.7 million $CO_2$. The program managed to prevent emission from the vulnerable area including swamp shrubs, plantations and dry land agriculture. The finding of this study suggests that community-based fire prevention and peatland rewetting programs could become a strategic program in climate change mitigation in Indonesia.

The Catholic Church in Poland, as happened before in other countries, faces the disclosure of scandals connected with the sexual abuse of minors by certain clergymen. This is a grave problem in the pastoral field and with the public image. According to the report of March 2019 by Instytut Statystyki Kościoła Katolickiego [Institute of the Statistics of the Catholic Church] 382 cases of sexual abuse were reported in 1990–2018, whereas the percentage of clergymen accused of abusing minors (up to 18 years of age) was 0,4%. The system of protecting children and youth against sexual abuse within the Church in Poland has been established since 2009. It was then that the Polish Bishops Conference adopted the first Wytyczne określające sposób postępowania w przypadkach wykorzystywania seksualnego małoletnich przez niektórych duchownych [Guidelines Specifying the Procedure in Cases of Sexual Abuse of Minors by Clergymen]. The system focuses on taking care of victims, developing clear norms and structures to bring to justice those clergymen who have committed the crimes and developing prevention programs for the protection of minors (which have already been implemented in all dioceses and in the majority of male religious congregations). It also runs Fundacja Świętego Józefa [St. Joseph Foundation] which provides various forms of help, mainly therapeutic, to the victims. In Kraków, Centrum Ochrony Dziecka [Center for the Protection of Children] established in 2013 runs and coordinates training activities. In dioceses and religious congregations there are delegates dedicated to the protection of children and youth, as well as ministers for those that have been sexually abused by clergymen. The chief Delegate for the Protection of Children and Youth, the Archbishop Wojciech Polak, Primate of Poland, has also been appointed. The results of preliminary investigations are passed along to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith under whose auspices a process of further investigation is run. The latest element of the system is the application of the norms introduced by Pope Francis under the motu proprio “Vos estis lux mundi”. They involve disciplining higher Church superiors who have concealed or covered up crimes of sexual abuse of minors. The Roman Catholic Church is the only public institution in Poland which has developed such meticulous internal standards as regards the punishment of the perpetrators, prevention programs and assistance to the victims. The purpose of the article is, therefore, to show the actions which the Church has taken in order to counteract the abuse of minors within the Church, both from the formal point of view as well as from the practical perspective: to substitute the mentality of “one must protect one’s men” with the one permeated with the spirit of the Gospel.

In this article, the authors discuss the nature of peer-based prevention programs. The analyzes are conducted in the context of school bullying prevention and the associated need to build a friendly and safe school environment. Attention was paid to shaping a positive peer culture by involving young people in various types of prosocial activities. Peer leadership programs are a special kind of activity where the driving force is youth. Implementation of a peer program into school life enables the full potential of young people to be activated. Such programs mobilize young people to make positive changes in their social surroundings, to help themselves and others through constructive cooperation. Taking into account that these programs are carried out within the school environment, the condition of the effectiveness is the attitude of school toward such activities. It is important to foster positive peer relationships, to encourage students to participate and create the right conditions for change.

Depression, which is the main cause of suicidal behaviors, is becoming a serious social problem today, linked to approximately 90% of suicide cases. Current statistics and research indicate that the problem is escalating, affecting children, adolescents and adults. The complexity and multidimensionality of the determinants of depression and suicidal behavior require not only careful analysis, but, above all, the creation and implementation of effective prevention measures. The focus of the article, therefore, is on how to prevent depression and suicidal behavior in children and adolescents. On the basis of a careful review of current statistics and research on the subject, the paper offers original ideas on how to improve the existing preventive measures and lists some of the prevention programs which have been implemented in Poland and abroad. The effectiveness of these programs, as the author makes clear, depends on a variety of factors.
Depresja, będąca głównym podłożem zachowań suicydalnych, współcześnie staje się problemem społecznym (około 90% przypadków samobójstw jest powiązanych z depresją). Aktualne statystyki i badania wskazują, że problem ten eskaluje, dotyczy zarówno dzieci i młodzieży, jak i osób dorosłych. Złożoność i wielowymiarowość czynników warunkujących depresję i zachowania suicydalne wymaga dokładnego przeanalizowania, a przede wszystkim skutecznej profilaktyki i jej realizowania. Kluczowe zagadnienie tekstu stanowi działanie profilaktyczne w zakresie depresji i zachowań suicydalnych dzieci i młodzieży. Opierając się na przeglądzie aktualnych (a zarazem ogólnych) statystyk i badań dotyczących tego problemu, przedstawiono autorskie propozycje zmian i udoskonaleń prowadzonej profilaktyki, a także propozycje wybranych programów profilaktyki depresji i zachowań suicydalnych dzieci i młodzieży realizowanych w Polsce oraz za granicą. Wskazano, że skuteczność tych programów zależy od wielu czynników.

Background. Nowadays the importance of lifestyles in the prevention of type 2 diabetes and the metabolic syndrome has been largely accertained. Objective. The purpose of our work is to implement programs that promote a nutritional culture in adolescents and young adults of the La Sabana University. Methods. The methodology entailed, after the corresponding informed consent, taking measures of the triceps and supraescapular skinfolds, waist circumference, body mass index (BMI), lean mass, and fat mass. Fasting blood samples were also taken to quantify cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein (HDL) and low density lipoprotein (LDL). Results. The results obtained show that of the 165 students, 10.3% were underweight, 13.93% were overweight and 0.6% were obese. With regards to gender, 4.8% of the men and 9% of the women were overweight, 3% of the men and 7.2% of the women were underweight, and 0.6% of the women were obese. The blood chemistry showed that 30% had hypercholesterolemia, 18% hypertriglyceridemia, 17% reported low HDL levels and 67% reported high LDL levels. Of all the cases studied, 40% are at risk of a metabolic syndrome. 60% claimed not to practice any physical activity - especially women who reported 44.70%. Conclusions. These findings have allowed us at the institution to implement a culture of healthy habits. The have also allowed us to identify students with risk factors for type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. This is why the cardio- metabolic monitoring and control based on healthy eating and physical activity are important.

Artykuł poświęcony jest aktualnym problemom wychowania studentów i uczniów, w szczególności organizacji pracy wychowawczej w ukraińskich instytucjach edukacyjnych związanej z bezpieczeństwem dzieci i ich dobrostanem. W pracę wpisano strategiczne priorytety krajowe, w tym realizację Krajowego Programu Społecznego „Krajowy plan działania na rzecz wdrażania Konwencji ONZ o prawach dziecka” do 2021 r. – jego główne zasady i oświadczenia, cel i zadania zostały przeanalizowane. Podkreślono nowoczesne podejścia do procesu przeciwdziałania przemocy w środowisku szkolnym, jak również kwestie zapewniające prawa, wolności i interesy dzieci, które znajdują odzwierciedlenie w koncepcjach obecnych programów wychowawczych. W szczególności zdefiniowano potencjał uniwersalnego programu wychowawczego „Osobista godność, bezpieczeństwo życia, pozycja obywatelska”.
The article is devoted to topical issues of the upbringing of students and pupils, in particular, the organization of educational work in the educational institutions of Ukraine on issues of child safety and well-being. Strategic national priorities are described in the paper, among them, the implementation of the State Social Program “National Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child” for the period until 2021 and its main principles and statements, goals and objectives have been analyzed. Modern approaches to the process of counteracting violence in the school environment have been outlined; issues ensuring the rights, freedoms and interests of children that are reflected in the concepts of current educational programs have also been substantiated. In particular, the potential of the universal educational program “Personal Dignity. Life Safety. Civic Position” has been defined in the article.
