Opis:
Road inspection is one of key processes of a pavement management system, whose function is to examine and describe the road infrastructure condition. When thoroughly performed, it provides the information required to implement an adequate road infrastructure maintenance policy and plan ad hoc repairs or refurbishments. This article discusses a solution for automatic asphalt pavement cracking detection, based on image-processing technology. This solution makes it possible to identify different crack types, i.e., transverse, longitudinal, alligator-type and technological cracks. The detection process is based on the application of various methods, including statistical difference identification for pre-assumed image analysis directions, i.e., in and opposite to the test vehicle running direction. The purpose of the morphological and filtering operations applied was to reduce the image noise level. The solution proposed was verified using video material in the form of a sequence of images recorded using the test vehicle.

Opis:
This paper focuses on a better understanding of the process of reflective cracking propagation through the pavement structure. A series of finite element numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the initial stress and strain states in typical semi-rigid pavements with and without reflective cracks under traffic loading. It was assumed that reflective-cracks propagate from the base layer to the pavement surface. The influence of selected parameters, such as the load position, overlay thickness, and subgrade quality on stress and strain concentrations was investigated. The behaviour of the pavement structure under repeated traffic loading was analyzed in terms of ground compaction. The original theoretical model proposed by Prof. Andrzej Sawicki was used to predict the deformation of a pavement subgrade subjected to traffic loading. The damaging effect of cracks appearing in the pavement structure was investigated. It was found that even a single crack in the pavement structure may significantly reduce the pavement lifetime.

Opis:
The results of laboratory experiments that show the capabilities of modern georadars are presented. Analysis of GPR capabilities allowed to propose a new approach to solving the actual problem of detecting subsurface cracks. The proposed method for recording pulse signals and data processing is based on algorithms and software previously developed by the authors. With the help of this method and the experiments carried out, the possibility of agreed solution to the problem of choosing the optimal parameters of the GPR pulsed signals was shown. To confirm the effectiveness of the developed signal processing methods, a series of laboratory experiments were carried out. The new version of the program "GeoVizy-2020" made it possible to increase the efficiency of processing complex impulse signals, as well as to realize the possibility of calculating the quantitative values of the most important parameters of the road pavement layers - the relative permittivity and thickness. Also, to check the adequacy of the results obtained, a method was used, which is based on the procedure for direct measurement of the real layer thickness in laboratory and field conditions and comparison of the data obtained with the results of numerical simulation. As a result, evidence is presented of the advantages of using pulsed signals for assessing layer parameters, searching for subsurface cracks and processing the results of surveys of road surfaces is presented.
