Opis:
The article is dedicated to the research of soft skills structural units and their formation of future social workers, as well as the issue of their professional growth and development. Professional skills consist of specific knowledge and abilities important for performing a particular job and that can be mostly identified, evaluated and measured. Until now, there was a perception that hard or functional-technical skills were the only skills needed for career growth and development. However, a study carried out at Harvard University shows that 80% of career achievements are determined by soft (social and communication) skills and only 20% by functional and technical skills. Since the labor market currently requires diverse professionals, higher education institutions face new challenges. One of these challenges is to create pedagogical conditions for the development of soft skills, including those of future social workers. The professional competence of a social worker involves three groups of skills, namely hard skills, soft skills and meta skills. We suppose that the mechanism of their formation in the conditions of professional training should be focused on the development of all components of soft skills, and their development provides the necessary professional qualities, the implementation of abilities, and the realization of values in social work. In accordance with the characteristics of future social workers in the development of «soft skills», its characteristic features and peculiarities are clarified, including: creating an informal environment for the formation of social leadership in higher educational institutions; filling the educational program with options for «soft skills», activities aimed at increasing the practice-oriented training of future specialists, the use of active and interactive techniques, forms, methods and means of developing the «soft skills» of social workers. The results of the study include the definition of the concept of «soft skills», the identification of their general characteristics, the outlining of groups of soft skills, and the description of their main components. It was found that the most in-demand flexible competencies are: teamwork, critical thinking, leadership, creativity, meeting deadlines, responsibility and discipline, as well as communication skills, emotional stability, ability to work in stressful situations, adaptability to a new team or working conditions, conflict resolution, critical and creative thinking, public speaking skills, reliability, flexibility, responsibility, priority setting, planning, adequate perception of criticism and readiness for improvement, and professional etiquette proficiency.

Opis:
Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the necessary level of abilities and competencies of family physicians from the decision-makers’ perspective in Kosovo, a post-war country in the Western Balkans. Methods: Our study was conducted in May-July 2013 and included a nationwide representative sample of 100 decision-makers operating at different primary health care institutions or public health agencies in Kosovo (63 men aged 48.6±5.5 years, and 65 women aged 46.2±5.7 years). A structured self-administered questionnaire was employed aiming to assess the necessary level of skills, abilities and competencies of family physicians in Kosovo regarding  different domains of the quality of health care. The questionnaire included 37 items organized into six subscales/domains. Answers for each item of the tool ranged from 1 (“novice” physicians) to 5 (“expert” physicians). An overall summary score (range: 37-185) and a subscale summary score for each domain were calculated for each participant. Cronbach’s alpha was used to assess the internal consistency of the instrument, whereas Mann-Whitney’s U-test was employed to assess sex-differences in the mean values of the summary score of 37-item instrument and the summary scores of each of the six subscales. Results: The internal consistency of the whole scale (37 items) was Cronbach’s alpha=0.92. The summary score of the 37-item instrument was higher in men than in women (162.3±17.9 vs. 156.1±17.5, respectively, P=0.071). The subscale scores were all higher in men than in women, a finding which was borderline statistically significant for the “patient care and safety” domain only (33.4±4.4 vs. 32.0±4.0, respectively, P=0.057). There was a weak correlation between the overall summary score of the tool and the work experience of decision-makers (Spearman’s rho=0.234, P<0.001).Conclusion: In the context of Kosovo, this study provides important evidence on the expected skills and competencies of family physicians from the decision-makers’ viewpoint. Future studies in Kosovo should compare our findings related to the necessary skills and competencies vis-à-vis the actual self-perceived skills and competencies of family physicians.

Opis:
This article studies the development of soft skills in religious education lessons in Slovakia. At present, the educational system focuses on the acquisition of knowledge in the form of hard skills instead of developing soft skills. However, soft skills are life necessities in the 21st century. Religious education, which is currently defined as the development of religious literacy, represents a meaningful space for the personal development of pupils, and the development of soft skills, which can be beneficial for their personal and professional life. According to research among religious education teachers, we can affirm that soft skills are included in the lessons. Nevertheless, while teachers have more developed effective management and communication skills, they lack the ability to support cooperative and independent learning.

Opis:
Monitoring children’s language ability levels makes it possible to predict their school achievement and identify potential difficulties. Identifying literacy difficulties in terms of specific learning disabilities is an important topic for elementary school pupils. Today, there is a general consensus based on research evidence that the diagnostic battery of literacy skills should always include a test of language abilities, through which the prerequisites for individual reading skills and at-risk readers can be identified. A working group has created a diagnostic tool for language awareness that allows the morphological-syntactic (subtest A and B) and semantic (subtest C) language levels of Czech children of elementary school age to be assessed. Data analysis examines how individual language skills correspond to reading performance – decoding and reading comprehension in different reading modalities (oral and silent reading) and how they correspond to other prerequisites for reading, such as listening comprehension. The paper introduces a new diagnostic tool using a quantitative methodology. It is based on data from the research project Key Literacy Skills for Primary School Pupils – a diagnostic battery, in which 881 elementary grade pupils (Grade 1 – Grade 5) participated. The statistical parameters of the new tool are presented and the relations between the Language Awareness Test, decoding skills, and oral and silent reading comprehension are analysed.

It compares both the development of knowledge and the associated difficulties in interviews with 40 students from the even years of primary and secondary education. Descriptive and correlational analyses were made, after coding their statements according to the theoretical model used. They revealed an unexpected stagnation, depending on the levels, with important educational implications.

The current research was conducted with the aim of the effectiveness of training life skills on the students’ happiness. The research population includes all the PNU students, Karaj branch who were studying in the educational year of 2013-2014. In this research 15 students were selected through random sampling method available as the research sample volume that participated in the educational workshop of life skill and 15 more students were selected as the control group. The method applied in this research is semi empirical with two groups of experimental and control. The experimental group was placed under 8, 120 minute sessions of training life skills. To collect data the Oxford happiness inventory was used. To analyze data, the descriptive statistics (average, standard deviation,…) as well as inferential statistics (covariance analysis) were applied. Results indicated that the average happiness scores in the experimental group's posttest are higher than that of the posttest in the control group. It is, thus, concluded that training life skills is influential in promoting the happiness of the students.

The aim of the article is to provide a brief overview of current labour migration from Ukraine to the Czech Republic and to explore the degree to which Ukrainian labour migrants utilise their skills on the Czech labour market. The analysis, using internal statistical data from the Czech Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and evidence from specific migrant surveys, is focused on the relationship between the formal education of economically active Ukrainian migrants and their position on the Czech labour market, and the extent to which there is an educational–occupational mismatch. The article analyses the factors that might influence the match between jobs and formal education and the position of Ukrainian migrants in the labour market. Analysis of the educational background of Ukrainian respondents does not seem to support the popular stereotype of the average Ukrainian as a university-educated construction-site worker or a cleaner, primarily due to the fact that the Czech Republic does not only attract well-educated Ukrainian migrants. Nevertheless, a comparison of the educational and occupational structures of Ukrainian migration does provide evidence of a significant waste of human capital.
