Aim/purpose – This study explores how the content feature and source of eWOM affect people’s intentions and further analyses the effectiveness of eWOM on people’s intention to watch movies. Design/methodology/approach – The study considers two dimensions of movie reviews, including the source (anonymous or acquaintance) and the content feature (concrete or abstract), adopts a 2x2 between-subject design, and then analyzes online questionnaires (N = 313) via statistics analysis methods. Findings – The findings showed that if the source is from an acquaintance and the content feature is concrete, then people will have the highest intention to watch the movie. In addition, the acting skills of the cast and the love of the movie genre also enhance the positive influence on the viewer’s experience. Research implications/limitations – The respondents were selected only in Taiwan so this paper do not explain any differences among different countries. For example, cultural differences exist between the West and the East in the content feature of eWOM. Originality/value/contribution – If a type of genre is greatly accepted by the audience and generates huge box-office revenue, then producers and movie companies might keep making movies in these kinds of genre to secure profits. Therefore, box-office movies will usually fall into these certain types of genres, and there will be an abundance of them released in the near future.

This article analyses the interventional translation strategies employed in the Ukrainian dubbing of The Simpsons Movie (2007). Based on a parallel corpus of the English original and the Ukrainian dubbing, this paper argues that film translation frequently requires lexical adjustments by the translator in order to maintain the original context or to establish the desired emotional connection with the audience. The interventional strategies chosen for this paper and applied to detected Ukrainian fragments are generalisation, substitution and omission, which are elements of domestication strategies; and specification, which is an element of  foreignization strategies. In the process of analysing the parallel corpus for The Simpsons Movie, an additional type of interventional strategy was detected and added as a fifth category: lexical domestication. This strategy relates to elements that have been deliberately created with the aim of introducing foreign replicas closer to the target language.
W artykule zostają poddane analizie strategie tłumaczenia interwencyjnego w ukraińskim dubbingu filmu The Simpsons Movie (wersja 2007). Na podstawie korpusu równoległego, zawierającego oryginał angielski i dubbing w języku ukraińskim, w artykule dowodzi się, że przekład filmowy często wymaga korekty leksykalnej tłumacza w celu zachowania oryginalnego kontekstu lub nawiązania pożądanej więzi emocjonalnej z odbiorcą. Strategie interwencyjne wybrane w tym artykule i zastosowane do wykrytych fragmentów ukraińskich to uogólnienia, substytucje i pominięcia, które są częścią strategii przybliżenia treści odbiorcy ukraińskiemu, i specyfikacja, która jest częścią obcości. W procesie analizy korpusu równoległego The Simpsons Movie wykryto dodatkowy rodzaj strategii interwencyjnej, którą dodano jako piątą kategorię: udomowienie leksykalne. Strategia ta odnosi się do elementów, które zostały celowo stworzone w celu wprowadzenia obcych replik bliższych językowi docelowemu.

Animated movie The Boy’s Dream (number of the first tenner), is the latest project of our instructional team that complies with the latest international requirements in order to develop a e-tutoring platform. In addition, especially in accordance to the needs and possibilities of Generations „Z”, and on the other hand the concept of heuristic algorithms stimulates intuition and common sense in children. Furthermore, the targeted group – children of preschool institutions engaged in monitoring and resolving application, the platform requires and develops their functional-logical potential. The project includes an interactive quiz with 12-manipulation tasks, like upgrading animated themes (and on the other hand, generates a report on the performance and their abilities (average scores of the individual, the group and the percentage of correct answers on questions) which will help teachers to better recognize the level of knowledge on this area and problematic places of learning) as well as the methodological manual. The aim of the paper is to present the project for its full implementation we suggest a period of 2 years.

Purpose – This paper aims to explore the main characteristics of the home cinema as well as to study the various influences on the choices regarding watching movies at home. All the while the paper also seeks the answer to find out what opportunities could be pursued for the sake of leading the consumers back to the legal territory.Methodology – Apart from the literature review, the study contains a secondary research that was conducted by collecting torrent tracker data from an aggregating website for a five-year period, from which the user base data was separated and highlighted.Findings – The paper presents an overview of some literature regarding movie consumption and points out the main classical behavior tropes that are also applicable to the case of watching movies as well as some potential alternative method – which could prove to be viable even with users who commonly tend to use illegal downloads to obtain movies – that could switch up the current ones.Research limitations – The goal is to expose the main theoretical correlations, while the primary research is not part of the paper, thus, further primary research is needed in the future to provide more insight into the thought process behind the choices of movie consumers.Value –  The paper explores the movie related decision making process as well as it tries to gain an understanding about the main mechanisms behind movie industry related phenomena.Classification – Conceptual paper.

Is an open road also a democratic one? Zooming in on two films—Queen & Slim (2019) and Unpregnant (2020)—this article discusses American road movie genre from the perspective of 2021, and how contemporary film narratives intersect with race and gender. One movie often drives in another film’s lane, meaning the genre is self-referential. Unfolding in three parts, the article begins by introducing these two films and surveying how they contribute to the road movie genre. It then discusses cars and clothing as characters and concludes by considering surveillance and how these films, in tandem, take the temperature of contemporary American society.

Twórcy noir lat czterdziestych ubiegłego wieku, jak Jacques Tourneur, mieli szczególny sposób przedstawiania światów za srebrnym ekranem. Ich filmy wyraźnie różniły się od tego, co Hollywood miało do zaoferowania w tamtym czasie. Nacechowane ciemnymi kolorami, zamieszkane przez zdeterminowanych, zagubionych osobników, światy noir wydają się wrogie, jednak zarazem w perwersyjny sposób przyciągają widownię. Co więcej, twórcy noir przeciwstawiają się prawdzie. Aby ją odkryć widz musi stać się śledczym i studiować film noir jak sprawę o morderstwo. Liczy się każdy element układanki, ponieważ celem filmu jest oszukanie widza. Analiza zewnętrznych, mimetycznych środków, jak i wewnętrznych, diegetycznych elementów zawartych w świecie przedstawionym jest kluczowe do zrozumienia jak noir gra z ideą prawdy, odnosząc sukces.
Noir creators of the 1940s, like Jacques Tourneur, had a specific way of presenting worlds behind the silver screen. Their movies were visibly different than everything else Hollywood had to offer at that time. Marked by dark colors, inhabited by gritty, lost individuals, noir worlds seem hostile yet they also attract the audience in a perverse manner. Moreover, noir creators defy truth as it is. To discover it a person has to become an investigator, and study the noir movie like a murder case. Every element of the puzzle counts, as the film’s purpose is to deceive the audience. Analyzing both outside, mimetic tools of the filmmaker and inside, diegetic elements incorporated in a story-world is vital to understand how noir successfully plays with the idea of truth.

For several years film tourism has been perceived as a new trend in cultural tourism. Following this trend, this work aims to determine which forms of film tourism are currently developing in Kraków. Moreover, it wants to indicate the potential of the city to create a tourism product in this field. In the research, guidebooks, as well as film materials and internet sources, have been used. Moreover, the offer of Kraków travel agencies regarding organised guided tours based on film have been analysed, along with sources such as city council strategic documents and reports. The research has demonstrated that Kraków is a city with high tourist potential in those terms. It regards both film production (including its surrounding area) and organisation of film festivals. However, analysis of guidebooks and local travel agency offers has pointed to a low interest in film. The research presented in the article, due to its attempt at comprehensiveness and upto-dateness in the context of new ideas for the development of tourism products, constitutes a contribution to Polish literature on cultural tourism. In practical terms, it may become an inspiration for those who are responsible for creating tourism products based on Kraków’s film heritage.

Purpose. This study aims to reveal the experience of Ukraine in banning as a method of struggle against Russian propagandist anti-Ukrainian films. Methods. Deduction technique as a process of logical concluding based on the complex of analyzed facts as well as summarizing have been applied. Results. Cinematographic informational aggression of Russia against Ukraine began in 2000 with the coming to power of V. Putin. Taking into consideration the fact, that it is television which is the most popular source of information for the absolute majority of Russians it can be claimed that Russian propagandistic films, which are very products of Putin’s policy, played not the last role in inciting aggression among Russian population. Discussion. Since 2000 Russian cinema production has started to actively focus on popularization of their own power structures and producing films propagating war, aiming at inciting of inter-ethnical, religious aggression, humiliation of Ukrainian nation, humiliation of an individual etc. the films have been heating up Russian’s aggression against Ukrainians and preparing Russia’s population for the war with Ukraine. These films possess great potential to form mythological thinking and stereotyping of viewers’ views. Korean legendary film director Kim Ki-Young’s 1960 work The Housemaid was remade in 2010 by director Im Sang-Soo. The study of the two films can be found as a comparative study of cinematic studies on sound analysis and genre analysis, and a sociological study on social images. However, few studies have looked with a discourse oriented approach. Discourse in the movie is not only a window for communication between characters, but also an important device with non-verbal elements, so it can be said to be discourse has a high importance as an analysis target. This study analyzes the film discourse according to Erving Goffman’s dramaturgical analysis to find out the differences between the characters. This study can be said is meaningful in that it has the characteristics of interdisciplinary research in linguistics and film studies through discourse analysis of two films with different periods.
Dzieło koreańskiego reżysera Kim Ki-Younga o tytule Pokojówka po swoim debiucie w 1960 roku, doczekało się w 2010 nowego obrazu w wizji reżysera Im Sang-soo. Oba te filmy mogą być traktowane jako materiał badawczy nauk filmowych w zakresie analizy fabuły i gatunku, jak i studium socjologiczne obrazu społeczeństwa. Jednocześnie niewiele badań dotyka dyskursu, który w tych filmach jest nie tylko obrazem komunikacji między postaciami, ale także ważnym narzędziem wyposażonym w elementy niewerbalne, uzupełniającym tło komunikacji. Artykuł niniejszy bada więc dyskurs filmowy w świetle analizy teorii dramaturgicznej Ervinga Goffmana, mając na celu ukazanie różnic między bohaterami obu tych dzieł. Wykazuje także cechy interdyscyplinarności badań na styku nauk o filmie i językoznawstwa w postaci analizy dyskursu filmów z różnego okresu.

The reconstruction of the past and memory is examined in the feature film Italia 90: The Movie (2014) by Miguel Gómez, which depicts the first participation of a Costa Rican team in a World Cup. The analysis includes the narrative, visual, and sound operations with which the past and memory are recreated (... or created), as well as the ways in which the story involves the viewers, particularly those who remember the episode. It is explained that, although the story resorts to certain topics of sports cinema, it is presented more as an adventure of the community, which would eventually include an entire country, and favors the exploration of the intimate over the epic. Italia 90: The Movie appeals to nostalgia, through recognizable images and sounds, as well as figures anchored in the hegemonic Costa Rican imaginary (such as the “common peasant”), to narrate an episode that, in addition to being central in the history of sports in Costa Rica, it is among the events that symbolically mark the country's entry into the globalized world.

There is no other area of human interest in which immaterial ideas, feelings and storytelling problems meet material world as closely as in the area of set - design. This is where philosophical questions and religious references suddenly start to 'take shape'. In my article I will analyse this process and show how many different contexts can be taken into consideration even if we choose as simple and minimalistic architecture as the one from the famous science – fiction movie Cube, directed by Vincenzo Natali. On a few pages we will discuss interfaith symbolism of the form of square with the focus on four main religious systems - Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. Surprisingly all of these have linked the square with very similar meanings. We will analyse teleological concepts of Aristotle (particularly the 'final cause' theory), which are defined in one of his most famous works, the 'metaphysics'. The most important aspect of this thesis ('purposefulness' as an obligatory attribute of existence) can be easily connected with the plot of the movie, where characters are compliant with the mathematical system in which they appeared. In the conclusion we will try to understand how symbolic meanings can influence our understanding of the final message of the movie and at the very ending we will refer to the etymology of the word 'cosmos'. The chapter will hopefully prove that Cube can offer careful viewers much more than a large amount of suspense or thrill and can be read as a large metaphor. However, to find an exit from the labyrinth of interpretations we will have to – paraphrasing the words of Quentin, one of the main characters – find a place from which we can see 'the big picture'.

Silence seems to be one of the most important expressions of a film work, although it is often overlooked in scientific research. The article is an attempt to analyze the achievements of Oscar winner Paweł Pawlikowski in terms of the use of silence in films. Two awarded films by the director were analyzed: Ida and Cold War. In the audiovisual / film message, we can consider it on many coexisting levels of the structure of a film work, both sound and image, as discussed in this article. The results of the research show that silence is not a direct synonym of absence or emptiness, it is rather a specific form of the appearance of meanings and emotions impossible to exist by other means of expression.
Cisza jako filmowy środek wyrazu w twórczości Pawła Pawlikowskiego Cisza wydaje się jednym z najważniejszych środków wyrazu dzieła filmowego, chociaż często jest pomijana w badaniach naukowych. Artykuł jest próbą analizy dokonań zdobywcy Oscara Pawła Pawlikowskiego pod kątem wykorzystania ciszy w filmach. Przeanalizowane zostały dwa nagrodzone filmy reżysera: Ida oraz Zimna wojna. W przekazie audiowizualnym/filmowym możemy to rozpatrywać na wielu współistniejących poziomach struktury dzieła filmowego, zarówno dźwiękowego, jak i obrazu, co podjęto w niniejszym artykule. Wyniki badań wskazują, iż cisza nie jest bezpośrednim synonimem nieobecności czy pustki, jest raczej specyficzną formą pojawiania się znaczeń i emocji niemożliwych do zaistnienia innymi środkami wyrazu.
