Opis:
In the spring of 2017, Stołowe Mountains National Park started a research program related to the protection of water resources. The research program was started because of, among others, the growing problems of water resources and the dying of spruce trees. One of the projects commissioned by the Park was ‘Monitoring the impact of renaturisation and hydrological status on changes in the biomass of trees and stands’. The monitoring covered spruce stands growing along the main watercourse of the Park (the Czerwona Woda). As a part of the study, three rectangular surfaces (from 0.45 to 0.50 ha) and 10 circular areas (0.04 ha each) were established. On fenced rectangular surfaces, 10 model trees were selected using the Draudt method. They were monitored using hemispheric cameras (changes in crowns), dendrometers (changes in the circumference of stems) and minirhizotronami (changes in the root layer). In addition to the measurements of all the trees on the surface, imaging with terrestrial laser scanning and hemispherical images was done. The data and results presented in this work were created as a result of the implementation of a project financed from funds related to the forestry fund of the State Forests National Forest Holding.

By an $ω_1$- tree we mean a tree of power $ω_1$ and height $ω_1$. Under CH and $2^{ω_{1}} > ω_2$ we call an $ω_1$-tree a Jech-Kunen tree if it has κ-many branches for some κ strictly between $ω_1$ and $2^{ω_{1}}$. In this paper we prove that, assuming the existence of one inaccessible cardinal, (1) it is consistent with CH plus $2^{ω_{1}} > ω_2$ that there exist Kurepa trees and there are no Jech-Kunen trees, which answers a question of [Ji2], (2) it is consistent with CH plus $2^{ω_{1}} = ω_4$ that there only exist Kurepa trees with $ω_{3}$-many branches, which answers another question of [Ji2].

Opis:
The article discusses the development of an approximation model of selected plastic and mechanical properties obtained from compression tests of model materials used in physical modeling. The use of physical modeling with the use of soft model materials such as a synthetic wax branch with various modifiers is a popular tool used as an alternative or verification of numerical modeling of bulk metal forming processes. In order to develop an algorithm to facilitate the choice of material model to simulate the behavior of real-metallic materials used in industrial production processes the induction of decision trees was used. First of all, the Statistica program was used for data mining, which made it possible to determine / find the relationship between the percentage of particular constituents of the model material (base material and modifiers) and yield strength, critical and maximum strain, and provide the opportunity to indicate the most important variables determining the shape of the stress - strain curve. Next, using the induction of decision trees, an approximation model was developed, which allowed to create an algorithm facilitating the selection of individual modifying components. The last stage of the research was verification of the correctness of the developed algorithm. The obtained research results indicate the possibility of using decision tree induction to approximate selected properties of modeling materials simulating the behavior of real materials, thus eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming experiments carried out on metallic material.

Opis:
In this paper, we look at the urban greenery management as a principal-agent (PA) problem. PA problems arise whenever the management of activity requires cooperation of at least two hierarchical levels. In the case analysed in this paper, the city mayor (the higher level) wants to maximise the pollution-mitigation capacity of trees planted; the greenery manager (the lower level) wants to maximise the municipal budget devoted to planting trees subject to some constraints on the outcome of this activity. While the higher level wants certain services to be delivered in the future actually, the lower level is interested in the potential benefits provided by the most attractive tree species, even though they will be delivered only partially and probably in the short run only. As a result, the species composition of trees planted is different from what it would have been if the PA model implemented was incentive compatible.

Opis:
In evolutionary computation approaches such as genetic programming (GP), preventing premature convergence to local minima is known to improve performance. As with other evolutionary computation methods, it can be difficult to construct an effective search bias in GP that avoids local minima. In particular, it is difficult to determine which features are the most suitable for the search bias, because GP solutions are expressed in terms of trees and have multiple features. A common approach intended to local minima is known as the Island Model. This model generates multiple populations to encourage a global search and enhance genetic diversity. To improve the Island Model in the framework of GP, we propose a novel technique using a migration strategy based on textit frequent trees and a local search, where the frequent trees refer to subtrees that appear multiple times among the individuals in the island. The proposed method evaluates each island by measuring its activation level in terms of the fitness value and how many types of frequent trees have been created. Several individuals are then migrated from an island with a high activation level to an island with a low activation level, and vice versa. The proposed method also combines strong partial solutions given by a local search. Using six kinds of benchmark problems widely adopted in the literature, we demonstrate that the incorporation of frequent tree information into a migration strategy and local search effectively improves performance. The proposed method is shown to significantly outperform both a typical Island Model GP and the aged layered population structure method.

Research background: The issue of predicting the financial situation of companies is a relatively young field of economic research. Its origin dates back to the 30's of the 20th century, but constant research in this area proves the currentness of this topic even today. The issue of predicting the financial situation of a company is up to date not only for the company itself, but also for all stakeholders. Purpose of the article: The main purpose of this study is to create new prediction models by using the method of decision trees, in achieving sufficient prediction power of the generated model with a large database of real data on Polish companies obtained from the Amadeus database. Methods: As a result of the development of artificial intelligence, new methods for predicting financial failure of the company have been introduced into financial prediction analysis. One of the most widely used data mining techniques in this field is the method of decision trees. In the paper, we applied the CART and CHAID approach to create a model of predicting the financial difficulties of Polish companies. Findings & Value added: For the creation of the prediction model, a total of 37 financial and economic indicators of Polish companies were used. The resulting decision trees based prediction models for Polish companies reach a prediction power of more than 98%. The success of the classification for non-prosperous companies is more than 83%. The created decision tree-based prediction models are useful mainly for predicting the financial difficulties of Polish companies, but can also be used for companies in another country.

The relationships between individual components of the natural environment have long been an object of research (Kostrowicki, Wójcik, 1972; Rączkowska, Kozłowska, 1994; Kozłowska, Rączkowska, 1996). This paper is an attempt to analyse the relationships between two geocomponents of the natural environment: relief and vegetation, from a perspective contrary to the one currently prevailing in the literature of the subject. This approach assumes that relief, with its dominant role as a component strongly affecting the formation of the remaining factors, can be indicative in character and as such can represent basie factors that help determine and anticipate the occurrences of certain plant communities as well as locations with no vegetation. Using geoinformation data along with the tools to process them, an attempt was made to assess the usefulness of the DTM (Digital Terrain Model) to identify selected plant communities, rock and water. The development of a model of the relationships between the relief and the vegetation is an attempt to capture the correspondence between the parameters characterising the relief, calcułated using the DTM model and classes of objects, with the use of information obtained from an Ikonos XS image. This model was subseąuently used to draw a map o f the land cover for a part of the Gąsienicowa Valley in the High Tatra (Dolina Gąsienicowa). For the purpose of this exercise, a techniąue of data classification called DBT (Decision Binary Trees) was used.

Business Process Modeling Notation has become a powerful and widely accepted visual language for modeling business processes. Despite its expressive power and high usability, a weak point of BPMN is the lack of formal semantics and difficulties with assuring correctness of the overall process. In this paper an attempt is made towards investigation and development of foundations for a logical, declarative model for BPMN. Such model should enable formal analysis of desired properties referring to correct operation of Business Processes modeled with use of BPMN.

Opis:
For quite a long time, research studies have attempted to combine various analytical tools to build predictive models. It is possible to combine tools of the same type (ensemble models, committees) or tools of different types (hybrid models). Hybrid models are used in such areas as customer relationship management (CRM), web usage mining, medical sciences, petroleum geology and anomaly detection in computer networks. Our hybrid model was created as a sequential combination of a cluster analysis and decision trees. In the first step of the procedure, objects were grouped into clusters using the k-means algorithm. The second step involved building a decision tree model with a new independent variable that indicated which cluster the objects belonged to. The analysis was based on 14 data sets collected from publicly accessible repositories. The performance of the models was assessed with the use of measures derived from the confusion matrix, including the accuracy, precision, recall, F-measure, and the lift in the first and second decile. We tried to find a relationship between the number of clusters and the quality of hybrid predictive models. According to our knowledge, similar studies have not been conducted yet. Our research demonstrates that in some cases building hybrid models can improve the performance of predictive models. It turned out that the models with the highest performance measures require building a relatively large number of clusters (from 9 to 15).

This work is a response to the EIOPA paper entitled 'Systemic risk and macroprudential policy in insurance', which asserts that in order to evaluate the potential systemic risk (SR), the build-up of risk, especially risk arising over time, should be taken into account, as well as the interlinkages occurring in the financial sector and the whole economy. The topological indices of minimum spanning trees (MST) and the deltaCoVaR measure are the main tools used to analyse the systemic risk dynamics in the European insurance sector in the years 2005-2019. The article analyses the contribution of each of the 28 largest European insurance companies, including those appearing on the G-SIIs list, to systemic risk. Moreover, the paper aims to determine whether the most important contribution to systemic risk is made by companies with the highest betweenness centrality or the highest degree in the obtained MST.

Sorption of Methylene Blue (MB) and Malachite Green (MG) dyes onto barks and leaves of four trees was examined with a batch method. The obtained sorption isotherms are well described by the Langmuir equation. The examined barks proved to have quite different sorption capacities. The highest values were recorded for the walnut tree bark (512 and 307 mg/g towards the MB and MG dyes, respectively) and the lowest capacities were observed for the birch tree bark (68 and 22 mg/g towards the MB and MG dyes, respectively). The studied leaves proved to have rather similar sorption capacities, i.e., from 210 to 286 mg/g for the MB dye and from 152 to 189 mg/g for the MG dye. The specific surface values calculated from the MB monolayer capacity are substantially higher than those obtained by the BET method, probably because of swelling of the test materials in an aqueous medium.

To obtain this goal, we first define an uncertain variable with respect to the minimum cost in each confidence level. If all costs are independently linear distributed, we present the inverse distribution function of this uncertain variable in [formula]time, where n is the number of vertices in the tree.

Introduction/background: This paper offers an idiosyncratic relational framework built on the organizational silence theory and the organizational support theory. It exploits the distinct advantages that using decision trees in classification and prediction applications offer to form a unique predictive model. Aim of the paper: This paper argues that a relational framework built on the organizational silence theory and the organizational support theory can give important clues about how employees make certain decisions in the workplace as well as about factors that have an impact on their decision-making processes. Materials and methods: The research applies decision trees learning – a data mining technique – to unfold the hidden patterns and unprecedented relationships between the two constructs that until now had not been revealed. Results and conclusions: The suggested model, which consists of rules, exhibits the effects of perceived organizational support and employee silence behavior on employee decisions with an approximately 79% correct classification rate, showing the success of the model as well as its appropriate relational framework. The presented findings indicate that a relational framework built on the organizational silence theory and the organizational support theory has a lot to offer in terms of building effective HR strategies and policies. The study also extends the understanding of the antecedents of silence behavior in different social contexts.

The paper is dedicated to algorithms for constructing a logical tree of classification. Nowadays, there exist many algorithms for constructing logical classification trees. However, all of them, as a rule, are reduced to the construction of a single classification tree based on the data of a fixed training sample. There are very few algorithms for constructing recognition trees that are designed for large data sets. It is obvious that such sets have objective factors associated with the peculiarities of the generation of such complex structures, methods of working with them and storage. In this paper, we focus on the description of the algorithm for constructing classification trees for a large training set and show the way to the possibility of a uniform description of a fixed class of recognition trees. A simple, effective, economical method of constructing a logical classification tree of the training sample allows you to provide the necessary speed, the level of complexity of the recognition scheme, which guarantees a simple and complete recognition of discrete objects.
