Opis:
The paper deals with the concept of the model of the word. It concerns a pre-linguistic stage of language acquisition, descriptive content of proper names and interpretation by means of a conceptual system. The model of the world comprises all aspects of being conscious. It is a system, a unity, a background of our conscious life; perception, language, notions, concepts, are its aspects. The more we know about cognitive processes, functions and structure of the mind, the be$er we understand the nature of language; the more we know about language, the better we understand the nature of the mind. Linguistic meaning as it was shown by the studies of language and categories acquisition, has its origin in the aforementioned model. That is why linguistic meanings are not ready-made contents, ideas, semantic entities, etc. but rather systems of procedures that constitute sense of speech acts. The approach to linguistic meaning as a part of an individual conceptual system, a system of information that mirrors cognitive, linguistic and non-verbal experience of an individual, is much of help in understanding efficacy of language, forming of beliefs, convictions, and also introducing new meanings.

The civic identity of an individual is seen as a dynamic system of citizen's perceptions of himself / herself and related emotions and value-semantic elements derived from the awareness of the fact that he / she is a citizen of a state and at the same time a member of the community of citizens. The results of the study support the notion that awareness of being a citizen of the state does not already mean having civic identity. Only 34% of interviewed students have a well-formed positive civic identity; 37% are showing some uncertainty, vagueness, ambiguity in their perception of themselves as citizens; 15% reject their Ukrainian civic identity, have a well-formed negative civic identity, and, more than other types, exhibit passive-indifferent civil position; 14% make a group of "potential emigrants" who are ready to change the Ukrainian civic identity for another. The differences in worldview and value-motivational sphere of students with the formed positive ("reached"), undefined ("indistinct" / "diffuse"), formed negative ("negative-passive") and "protest" ("potential immigrants") civic identity have been discovered.

The authors of the article consider the stone labyrinths as solar calendars. In the center of these structures there are usually already installed gnomons – vertical objects that give shade. Midday shadow points to north, and the change of its length during a year is correlated with the diameter of the arcs of the labyrinth. Points of sunrise / sunset at the equinoxes and solstices are very often fixed in the pattern of the labyrinth, as well as the beginning of the annual cycle. In general, patterns of labyrinths are of the same type, the differences reflect the regional characteristics of illumination, the differences in latitude and topography (shape of the horizon). The uniformity of the technology and the location on the waterways give an opportunity to consider stone labyrinths as ancient elements of local and regional navigation networks.

Opis:
Aim. The aim of the research is to explore the functionality of the Open Education Model of religious education for the “form[ation of] an internal moral compass,” as Steven Hitlin and Jane Allyn Piliavin (2004) describe the modern understanding of values. In other words, the author will attempt to explore first what the model has to offer in terms of equipping students with the necessary skills so that they will successfully navigate through the conflict of values, and second the potential application and limitations of the model. Methods. The exploration is based on a 2014 production by Pure Flix Entertainment, the first movie in the God’s not Dead series. The author will consider two educational cases presented in the movie using a close reading method. Results. The study seems to prove that that the God’s not Dead movie accurately portrays the conflict of values experienced by young adults in present-day America. It also appears to consistently promote the Open Education Model as a type of religious education that provides considerable assistance to the learners in retaining their beliefs in the world of mixed values, especially in the time of crisis. The model appears to lend sound conceptual framework missing in other models, but its full application is time and effort consuming and fails to provide more comprehensive approach to religious diversity. Conclusion. The Open Education Method of religious instruction in the environment dominated by a multicultural approach, seems to offer valuable concepts that may facilitate educational process proposed by other models and thus deserves more thorough consideration in academic research.

Opis:
The world depicted in selected novels of the first half of the 1950s functions as a “semantic effect”, precisely shaped by the propaganda of that period. This world is created by narration in order to present the fulfillment of production goals. As a result, we deal with a new reality in which the characters are portrayed first and foremost as manufacturers. Feelings and emotions and their importance are replaced by labor. New civic and social patterns imposed in the novels are to prove that the socialist system is absolutely positive. In order to obtain this goal, primarily lexemes and language constructions are employed, consolidated and repeated in the texts; language conventions that guarantee the coherence of the model of the propaganda-created world. The world presented in the novels set outside Szczecin is narrowed to merely a few thematic fields that are worth discussing.

In this paper, we investigate the statistical features of the weighted international-trade network. By finding the maximum weight spanning trees for this network we make the extraction of the truly relevant connections forming the network's backbone. We discuss the role of large-sized countries (strongest economies) in the tree. Finally, we compare the topological properties of this backbone to the maximum weight spanning trees obtained from the gravity model of trade. We show that the model correctly reproduces the backbone of the real-world economy.

Opis:
In the early seventies The Club of Rome started a project called “The Predicament of Mankind”. Based on the work of members of this club the modeling, analysis and simulation of humanity development were initiated. Furthermore, the macro models containing natural resources, population, capital investment, pollution and agriculture issues were built. One of those models – the World Model – presents a complex dynamics of all five cited issues. To address such questions as how well the humanity will progress in the future, the authors thoroughly examined this model. We performed sensitivity analysis for selected parameters such as Birth Rate and made an attempt to optimize other parameters for example the Quality of Life. The results of this research are presented together with open issues for further investigations.
Na początku lat siedemdziesiątych XX w. Klub Rzymski rozpoczął projekt „The Predicament of Mankind”.

The paper presents the evolution of the British model of immigrant integration after World War II. It is a historical and political analysis. The author indicates the key elements of the British approach to decolonisation which were translated into concrete legal acts regulating the lives of the Commonwealth residents and immigrants arriving in the UK. The paper also discusses different dimensions of the integration of immigrants into British society. The analysis indicates that the multicultural model of immigrant integration adopted after World War II has been found to be dysfunctional, as British society has reached a state of super-diversity, becoming a very complex mosaic of races, religions and nationalities.

Opis:
The issue of identity is the subject for research in many sciences, especially psychology and sociology. Two types of identity are distinguished: personal and social ones. Personal identity provides an individual with a sense of one’s own uniqueness while social identity indicates that a man has a sense of belonging to other people, given groups or organisations and is aware of one’s own place in the world. The identity worldview model uses such concepts as ‘value’, ‘cultural pattern’ or ‘ethos’. The concept of identity is, in this case, understood as a set of permanent features of one’s self developed among the members of a given group. The premises originate from the features of the social structure or entirely, anthropologically understood culture of the given community. The identity worldview model also refers to a thesis on a change in the conditions of an individual’s psychosocial existence in the contemporary society.

Behavior of interest rates is of key importance for understanding the functioning of an open economy. The simplest models usually assume equal interest rates in individual countries, while the international arbitrage serves as a mechanism of their equalization. In our study an attempt has been made to determine whether and to what extend the interest rates in the Polish market are linked to the USA and the euro zone exchange rates. The analyses have been carried out for rates of different maturity terms, using the integration and co-integration concept. The analyses indicate that differences between the Polish interest rates, and those in the USA and the euro zone have strongly diminished. Cointegration analyses show the existence of a long-term linkages between the domestic and foreign interest rates, in particular with those in the euro zone. The nature of co-integrating relationships was different in the period 2001-2004 as compared with that after 2004, when we see a stronger impact of the euro zone rates than those of the USA. It may be assumed that the Polish accession to the EU had certain influence in the change of the above mentioned relationships.

Opis:
Research objectives (aims) and problem(s): The purpose of the article is to point out the pedagogical implications of selected elements of Erving Goffman’s thought. Research methods: To achieve this goal, the author used the methods of hermeneutic interpretation and existential problematisation. Structure of the article: The topic may be boiled down to the essence of the ethos which underlies authentic pedagogical thought and activity. This issue has been problematised in terms of Erving Goffman’s theory of the presentation of self in everyday life and social interaction rituals. In this context, reference is made to the heuristic semantic potential of the metaphorical figure expressed in the concept of the “schoolboy model” and “schoolboy’s world.” In fact, it symbolises the essence of the ethos of pedagogical thought and activity, which always paves the way to authentically acquiring personal and social competencies – requiring time, effort and self-discipline. On this path, individuals gain genuine respect and recognition in society whilst acquiring the skills needed to fulfil their social roles. In this meaning, the heuristic figure of the “schoolboy model” mainly depicts the authentic, honest effort needed to follow the path that leads to personal and social development by facing the challenges and demands of education with integrity. Therefore, the metaphorical figure of the schoolboy model, referring to the rule of fairness (i.e., evaluating students based on their actual merits and achievements), assumes the validity of facts that can only be produced by means of diligent and honest work. Research findings and their impact on the development of educational sciences: Thus, the subject matter calls for the application of selected categories of Erving Goffman’s work in contemporary pedagogical discourse and its key categories: the subjectivity, autonomy, self-education and self-realisation of the pupil. Conclusions and/or recommendations: The model of pedagogical thought and action inspired by selected aspects of Goffman’s thought can be linked with the ways of understanding pupils’ status which express beliefs about individuals’ ability to create their own social and cultural status through their choices, reflexivity, activity, commitment and subjective agency. Thus, the heuristic figure of Goffman’s schoolboy model exposes the authentic acquisition of subjective competence for personal and social human development.

The purpose of this paper is to describe the main fields of activity of the IRO and to point out those aspects of its action that could be an inspiration for the future activities of the international community towards the resolution of the refugees issue in a changed contemporary context of this problem. The author claims that as the activity of IRO was the suitable and efficient way to solve the DPs and refugees problem at the time of the crisis connected with the massive presence of refugees, it merits a deeper examination as a temporary instrument of the international community also nowadays, during such critical periods.
