Opis:
The analysis, based on a Polish national sample from 2006, aims to cast light on the regional variation in the effect of education on incomes. Building on the conceptual framework developed in the theory of human capital we investigate to what extent pay-offs for human capital differ across detailed administrative districts in Poland. By incorporating contextual characteristics, we examine how micro- and macro-level factors shape labour market outcomes. Our findings provide further support for the hypothesis that there is much regional variation in the influence of education on incomes, which suggests that there are better and worse places for the development of a meritocratic distribution of incomes. It appears that education pays more highly in more economically-developed regions, marked by a higher rate of occupational activity.

In the article the technique of finding the expected income in multipleline queueing systems closed exponential by HM-network with priority messages in a case when the income from transitions between its states is random variables with known average values is described. The intensity of the service of messages in systems linearly depends on their number. The approached expressions for the expected income, depending on the average numbers of messages in systems are received. For them the system of the linear differential equations with broken right parts is made. The example is calculated.

Opis:
In the paper an open Markov HM(Howard-Matalytski)-Queueing Network (QN) with incomes, positive customers and signals (G(Gelenbe)-QN with signals) is investigated. The case is researched, when incomes from the transitions between the states of the network are random variables (RV) with given mean values. In the main part of the paper a description is given of G-network with signals and incomes, all kinds of transition probabilities and incomes from the transitions between the states of the network. The method of finding expected incomes of the researched network was proposed, which is based on using of found approximate and exact expressions for the mean values of random incomes. The variances of incomes of queueing systems (QS) was also found. A calculation example, which illustrates the differences of expected incomes of HM-networks with negative customers and QN without them and also with signals, has been given. The practical significance of these results consist of that they can be used at forecasting incomes in computer systems and networks (CSN) taking into account virus penetration into it and also at load control in such networks.

The shapes of distributions of personal incomes in USA have been investigated based on the data for 1993 to 2008. Comparisons between four models utilizing various number of parameters have been performed. The studies showed that the empirical data is described the best by the three-parameter Dagum model. Values of the models parameters indicate that the distribution of personal incomes can be regarded as zero-modal one. However, one-parameter exponential model shows a good agreement with data and can be treated as a good approximation of empirical distribution with the exception of the region with very high incomes. The high-income region is characterized by the relatively great number of events and is described much better by the Dagum distribution.

A method first used to search for events leading to the changes of sizes of major US, UK, and world cities is applied to investigate the presence of events influencing incomes of commercial companies. Top 100 US companies from the period of 1955-2005 are analyzed. Distributions of incomes are found to be stable but the changes in rank positions of companies lead to discovery of some instabilities. Parameters describing changes in the rank positions are calculated, discussed, and compared to the results of previous studies.

The aim of our research is to examine how individual dimensions of globalization affect economic poverty in the World. For this, regression models are estimated with FGT0 or FGT1 poverty measures as dependent variables and KOF indices of globalization as dependent variables. The poverty indices are estimated for 119 countries’ income distributions assuming log-normality and using Gini estimates from the WID2 database and GDP/capita from The World Bank database for the years 1990-2005. It has turned out that the “partial” impact of selected dimension of globalization on poverty is either linear or nonlinear, ceteris paribus. The nonlinear impact is of the U-shaped form or the inverted U-shaped form. Our results contradict some typical ‘linear’ findings when poverty measures are regressed only on one dimension of globalization. In other words, when some crucial dimensions of globalization are neglected in regression analysis the conclusions about impact of globalization on world poverty could be misleading.

Opis:
The strong connection between urbanisation processes and the transformation of farmland into built-up areas – mostly residential – has already been tackled in the literature. Still, in Poland this process of farmland loss, generally thought to be irreversible, occurs in a specific, often irrational and not fully registered way. What is more, this development is favoured by legislation, especially rules controlling the exclusion of land from agricultural production and real-estate taxation. Among the many detrimental consequences of those regulations are incomes of communes lower than they should be. The problem tackled in the article is that of the exclusion from agricultural use of only fragments of geodetic lots on which building investments are going on. The cost of the exclusion and the difference in the rates of the agricultural tax and the real-estate tax very often result in the exclusion of only a part of a lot, while the rest of it is formally still in agricultural use, even though its owner does not conduct any agricultural activity there. In this case two taxes have to be paid from one lot: the real-estate tax, on the land taken out of agricultural use and the building erected on it, and another, the agricultural tax, on land that is still a piece of farmland. This situation, especially in areas undergoing rapid urban sprawl, is common in Poland and has unfavourable consequences for the incomes of communes. It also leads to a discrepancy between data from the real-estate cadastre and the actual area of land in agricultural use, which greatly hampers an exact measurement and control of the real losses of land performing the agricultural function, including that with high-quality soils. The conducted research demonstrated that in 2014 nearly 7% (927) of all geodetic lots in Rokietnica commune, situated in the immediate neighbourhood of Poznań, were builtup housing lots, mostly carrying detached single-family houses, with fragments of farmland. Almost a half (49.4%) of the total area of those lots, 42 ha, was still agricultural land in the real-estate cadastre and subject to taxation not by the real-estate tax, but the much lower agricultural tax. Because of this difference in the two taxes, the annual receipts of the commune budget are 186,601 zlotys (43,395 euro) lower. It also turned out that more than 50% of farmland on those lots (21.8 ha) was arable land of the good land-capability class III, which is high for the conditions in the Poznań agglomeration. This not only corroborates the findings of earlier studies highlighting significant losses of good-quality arable land taking place as a result of urban sprawl, but it also means that in the Polish conditions actual losses are much higher than would follow from records in the real-estate cadastre. It can also be stated that the Polish legal rules not only fail to adequately protect farmland situated within metropolitan areas, but even favour its excessive loss.

In this paper we study the relations between personal incomes and incomes of families with two adults in USA. We describe family income distributions using the simple two-parametric model. Assuming incomes of spouses are statistically independent of each other we obtain theoretical exponential income distributions for males and females. We show that these distributions are not coincident with distributions constructed based on the personal data. Obtained results indicate on statistical dependence between incomes of males and females in the families. We track changes and trends in data for years from 2001 to 2016.

This study analysed the effects of cooperative member characteristics on income generation among smallholder farmers in Chibombo district of Central Zambia using logistic regression from a sample size of 398 co-operative members. The aim of the study was to analyze factors affecting income generation among small-holder famers with membership in agricultural cooperatives, and to identify factors that increase their income. Data were collected in May 2020 using a questionnaire. The empirical data indicated that income increased when there were increases in the cultivated area, primary education and cooperative membership period of 5–10 years but decreased with marriage, being widowed and a farming experience period of 5–10 years. The other factors had no significant effect. Thus, the study concludes that increasing cultivated area, duration of cooperative membership and attending at least primary education would better income generation among cooperative members.

In this paper we study differences between personal incomes distributions in Poland in 2002 and 2012. The empirical data have been collected within the Household Budget Survey project. We used the Machado & Mata decomposition, which utilizes quantile regression. This method allowed us to investigate differences between income distributions in the whole range of values, going beyond simple average value decomposition. We evaluated influence of person’s attributes on the differences of incomes distributions in 2002 and 2012. By decomposing the differences into the explained and unexplained components we got information about their causes. The differences described by the explained part are caused by different characteristics of samples. The unexplained part shows differences caused by the changes of attribute importance.

Research background: In applied welfare economics, the constant relative inequality aversion function is routinely used as the model of a social decisionmaker?s or a society?s preferences over income distributions. This function is entirely determined by the parameter, ?, of inequality aversion. However, there is no authoritative answer to the question of what the range of ? an analyst should select for empirical work. Purpose of the article: The aim of this paper is elaborating the method of deriving ? from a parametric distribution of disposable incomes. Methods: We assume that households? disposable incomes obey the generalised beta distribution of the second kind GB2(a,b,p,q). We have proved that, under this assumption, the social welfare function exists if and only if ? belongs to (0,ap+1) interval. The midpoint ?mid of this interval specifies the inequality aversion of the median social-decisionmaker. Findings & Value added: The maximum likelihood estimator of ?mid has been developed. Inequality aversion for Poland 1998?2015 has been estimated. If inequality is calculated on the basis of disposable incomes, the standard inequality?development relationship might be complemented by inequality aversion. The ?augmented? inequality?development relationship reveals new phenomena; for instance, the stage of economic development might matter when assessing the impact of inequality aversion on income inequality.
