Opis:
During the early part of 1999 Steffen, Robertson and Kirsten (UK) Ltd (SRK) were commissioned by Price Waterhouse Coopers to carry out the technical due diligence study of the Bogdanka Coal Mine as part of their contract with the Treasury Ministry of Poland for pre-privatisation analysis. A visit was undertaken by four experienced consultants specialising in the fields of geology, mining, coal preparation and environment. The team also undertook a review of management, manning levels, performance and other broad issues affecting the operation of the mine. In this paper the author outlines the general geology of the mine, and attempts to show how an experienced consultant comes to terms with a meaningful assessment of a mine and coalfield of which he has little or no previous knowledge, particularly given the very short time available for the commission. The relevance of such aspects as mineral rights and concessions, the exploration history, cover deposits, coal bearing strata, geological structure, coal quality and potential hazards to the assessment will be examined. The assessment of reserves and resources to standards acceptable to international banking organisations will be looked at in more detail. Finally some of the critical non-geological factors of the assessment will be outlined.

Opis:
In modern realities, there is no unified methodology for the economic assessment of geological exploration in subsoil use. The main research question of this study was to develop a methodology for the new economic model formation for assessing geological exploration in the subsoil use for the mineral resource base rational use. The new methodology can facilitate the assessment of subsoil users of hydrocarbon reserves and resources and government bodies when putting resources and reserves on the balance sheet. In the course of the study, modeling, observation, description, and analysis methods were used. The result of the study was a new economic model for evaluating geological exploration in subsoil use. The main conclusions can be characterized by the optimization of the main indicators of the valuation of mineral raw materials. The basic principles for calculating discounted cash flow, discount rate, payback period and internal rate of return were developed.

Opis:
The article presents the results of works concerning evaluation of undeveloped deposits in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin and an estimation of hard coal reserves which can be developed by 2050. Evaluation of hard coal deposits was established on criterions choice and their score determination. On the basis of obtained the final score and after consultations with experts in the field of hard coal mining, there were selected three areas of undeveloped deposits with the amount of about 1.99 Gt (billion metric tons) of anticipated economic resources which can extend the coal reserve base located in the direct vicinity of operating hard coal mines. Additionally, one undeveloped coal deposit with estimated resources amounts to about 1.15 Gt was selected as a potential deposit whose resources could be included in the reserves of operating mines, up to the depth of 1,500 metres. Deposit areas were selected and hard coal reserves were estimated with a view to building new coal mines. For Oświęcim-Polanka deposit, there was built a 3D geological model with estimated the amount of 924 Mt (million metric tons) of anticipated economic resources of coal. An example of a deposit development with ventilation, extraction and transport/haulage underground roadways connecting coal seams with the surface are presented. The designed mine working was placed in the 3D geological deposit model which is a useful tool for designing spatial deposit management.

Opis:
The mature gas fields rehabilitation represents a permanent concern of the Romgaz technical management, being considered one of the major priority of the development strategy of our company. The most part of our gas fields located in the geological unit of Transylvanian Basin are characterized by an advanced stage of exploitation, with a long production history and high cumulatives, having a current recovery factors of more than 60-70%. This status gives them the name "mature fields", or "brownfields" concepts logically associated with another notion, called "rehabilitation", also very frequently used in the world oil and gas industry. As the production decreasing became actually more obviously, due to the natural energetic decline of the reservoirs, the only viable solution to overcome this, consists in finding technical, commercial and operational best practices designed to develop incremental production and access additional reserves. This issue has preoccupied also the Romgaz technical team to implement and develop in the same time a new management strategy of this type of reservoirs, setting up a special department for designing the rehabilitation projects for our mature gas fields.
