Opis:
The National Museum in Warsaw holds a diverse collection of glass gems, both ancient and modern. One of these, a specimen depicting a dying Niobid supported by his sister, belongs to a wider group of objects scattered throughout various European museums. Such gems were mainly produced during the 1st century BC and their decoration is derived from a fragment of a relief carved by Pheidias on the statue of Zeus in Olympia which portrays the massacre of the Niobids. The fact that these gems were made of glass indicates that objects with such decorations were appreciated and popular. The myth of Niobe, in both Greek and Roman art, served multiple purposes highlighted by the choice of the story’s motives most often used in decorations. However, the reason for the use of this particular fragment of Pheidias’s relief to decorate gems as well as their popularity require additional explanation.

Opis:
A novel approach to a trigger mode in the Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) detector readout system is presented. The system is already installed at WEST tokamak. The article briefly describes the architecture of the GEM detector and the measurement system. Currently the system can work in two trigger modes: Global Trigger and Local Trigger. All trigger processing blocks are parts of the Charge Signal Sequencer module which is responsible for transferring data to the PC. Therefore, the article presents structure of the Sequencer with details about basic blocks, theirs functionality and output data configuration. The Sequencer with the trigger algorithms is implemented in an FPGA chip from Xilinx. Global Trigger, which is a default mode for the system, is not efficient and has limitations due to storing much data without any information. Local trigger which is under tests, removes data redundancy and is constructed to send only valid data, but the rest of the software, especially on the PC side, is still under development. Therefore authors propose the trigger mode which combines functionality of two existing modes. The proposed trigger, called Zero Suppression Trigger, is compatible with the existing interfaces of the PC software, but is also capable to verify and filter incoming signals and transfer only recognized events. The results of the implementation and simulation are presented.

Purpose: The aim of the paper is to analyse entrepreneurial behaviour of Polish society and level of entrepreneurship in Poland in the years 2014-2018. Design/methodology/approach: The first part of the article is based on an analysis of literature on the issues discussed. Then, based on the GEM Reports, the various manifestations of entrepreneurship and its level in Poland in 2014-2018 was assessed. Findings: The conducted research indicates that more and more Poles see business opportunities in their environment and do not feel fear of failure. On the other hand, fewer people plan to set up their own business, which is undoubtedly the reflection of a good situation in the labour market, which allows people to freely choose between their own business and labour for hire, which, in turn, affects a decline in entrepreneurial intentions. The better motivation structure of young entrepreneurs is also visible in Poland, as most people start their own business seeing it as an opportunity rather than necessity. Originality/value: The analysis allows the identification of areas requiring changes. Therefore, it may constitute the basis for the government to take appropriate actions to increase the level and quality of entrepreneurial activity.

Opis:
In the future International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), the interaction between the plasma and the tungsten chosen as the plasma-facing wall material imposes that the hot central plasma loses energy by X-ray emission from tungsten ions. On the other hand, the registered X-ray spectra provide alternative diagnostics of the plasma itself. Highly ionized tungsten emits extremely complex X-ray spectra that can be understood only after exhaustive theoretical studies. The detailed analyses will be useful for proper interpretation of soft X-ray plasma radiation expected to be registered on ITER-like machines, that is, Tungsten (W) Environment in Steady-state Tokamak (WEST). The simulations of the soft X-ray spectra structures for tungsten ions have been performed using the flexible atomic code (FAC) package within the framework of collisional-radiative (CR) model approach for electron temperatures and densities relevant to WEST tokamak.

Given a graph H, the Turán function ex(n,H) is the maximum number of edges in a graph on n vertices not containing H as a subgraph. For two graphs G and H, an H-decomposition of G is a partition of the edge set of G such that each part is either a single edge or forms a graph isomorphic to H. Let ϕ(n,H) be the smallest number ϕ such that any graph G of order n admits an H-decomposition with at most ϕ parts. Pikhurko and Sousa conjectured that ϕ (n,H) = ex(n,H) for χ (H) ≥ 3 and all sufficiently large n. Their conjecture has been verified by Özkahya and Person for all edge-critical graphs H. In this article, we consider the gem graphs gem4 and gem5. The graph gem4 consists of the path P4 with four vertices a, b, c, d and edges ab, bc, cd plus a universal vertex u adjacent to a, b, c, d, and the graph gem5 is similarly defined with the path P5 on five vertices. We determine the Turán functions ex(n, gem4) and ex(n, gem5), and verify the conjecture of Pikhurko and Sousa when H is the graph gem4 and gem5.

Opis:
In all measurement systems of radiation, the detector is the most important part. We can say that it is the heart of these systems. Gas detectors are still the most popular type of detector. Modern technologies allow manufacturing gas detectors having a very good energy and position (2D) resolution, high efficiency, large effective area, small count rate effect, radiation hardness, good signal-to-noise ratio and not complicated structure. These detectors are very fast and can stably work for a long period of time. One advantage of gas detectors is the possibility to read not only charge, but also UV light generated in the detector. In this paper we want to make a review of construction, mechanical properties, performance and possible applications of the following so-called micropattern gas detectors (MPGD): microstrip gas chamber (MSGC), gas electron multiplier (GEM), MICRO-MEsh GAseous Structure (MICROMEGAS) and capillary plate detector (CP).

The links between culture and entrepreneurship are still not sufficiently well-established or explored. They started just a half of a century ago, even though the links between culture and capitalism are much older (more than 100 years old). Culture is one of the main determinants for the various entrepreneurial activities undertaken in different countries, nevertheless, it needs further exploring to yield a wider understanding of the role of the social aspects of entrepreneurship. This paper is rooted in the field of international entrepreneurship, a branch of which deals with the comparative perspective of entrepreneurship across countries and cultures. The main objective of the paper is to explore the impact of cultural and social norms on entrepreneurship in the EU countries on the basis of the GEM data of the recent report of 2013. The results prove that the national entrepreneurial culture has a positive impact on entrepreneurship.

The Molecular Electron Density Theory is applied to the [4+2] cycloaddition reaction between cyclopentadiene and gem-substituted ethylene electrophiles. Calculations are made for reactions, activation energies, and reactivity indices. The results of the experiment are perfectly consistent with activation energies, which unequivocally show that this cyclization’s are is highly stereoselective, in addition, based on ELF examination, the mechanism of these [4+2] cycloadditions occurs in two phases, The mechanisms of these reactions demonstrate that the term "pericyclic reaction" is no more relevant in the 21st century and has been replaced by the term "pseudocyclic".

Opis:
Soft X-ray (SXR) plasma measurements are important type of diagnostics especially in tokamak facilities. Main output products are energy and topology spectra distributed in time. In case of Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) detectors, used as radiation sensors, large number of analog readout channels must be provided. For this purpose Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are used. Data quality monitoring (DQM) is important topic in case of asynchronous events registered by the measurement unit. Due to numerous FPGAs used it is necessary to provide advanced trigger synchronization between them. In the paper is proposed an algorithmic approach for the trigger link training and diagnostics. It is a key component in order to provide consistent measurement data for DQM analysis. The contents of the article covers the plasma experiments and related DQM topics. In following chapters explanation of the synchronization problem is described. The proposed algorithm will be used for trigger link synchronization and diagnostics aspects. The simulations are also discussed. Currently, the proposed ideas are at the stage of implementation and tests on real hardware. Simulation were successfully performed. Summary of the work carried out is presented at the end of the paper.

Application of satellite observations for the evaluation of the land surface temperature from GEM model forecastAbstract: The Global Environmental Multiscale model (GEM) was evaluated against satellite observations and measurements from synoptic stations. The computational grid was set up in the global variable mode with the resolution of ~25 km over Central Europe. Model evaluation was performed over Central Europe within a window of 43-56°N latitude and 10-25°E longitude. Surface temperature forecasts were compared with the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) land surface temperature product. Air temperature measured at the height of 2 metres was obtained from about 480 synoptic stations from 13 Central Europe countries. Air temperature measurements collected at 9 UTC and 12 UTC during five days (31 January, 2 February, 3 March, 27 April and 18 June 2012) was compared with the GEM model results. Evaluation showed good agreement between modelled and observed data. In case of air temperature, the averaged value of the Mean Bias Error (MBE) was -0.42, the averaged Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and the Mean Absolute Gross Errors (MAGE) were 3.21 and 2.32, respectively. Land surface temperature comparisons gave results of -2.01; 3.91 and 3.24 of the (MBE), (RMSE), and (MAGE), respectively. Also, correlation of derived modelling errors between surface temperature and air temperature are discussed. In each case the correlation coefficient was positive. The highest value (0.70) was obtained for periods when surface – atmosphere radiative exchange processes were dominant.

Opis:
The purposes of this study are to investigate a range of perceptions towards entrepreneurial intention (EI), and to compare those perceptions between Poland and Thailand. Poland and Thailand are chosen to analyze since both countries have similar aspects in term of entrepreneurial intentions rate, and are in efficiency-driven economy. EI is one of the most significant predictor of business creation. Based on Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) data in 2015, combined 5,000 samples from Poland (n=2,000) and Thailand (n=3,000) are analyzed by logistic regression to investigate the effect of perceptions on EI. Independent variables include individual’s perceived self-efficiency, the ability to recognize business opportunities, entrepreneurial network, fear of failure as well as a range of socio-cultural perceptions. The results show that perceptions of self efficacy, opportunity recognition, and entrepreneurial networking have significant effect on EI in both countries. Interestingly, the impact of fear of failure is found to influence on EI for Poland, but not for Thailand. On the one hand, high level of status and public media attention on successful entrepreneurs are found to influence on EI for Thailand, but not for Poland.
W oparciu o dane z 2015 r. pochodzące z Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), w celu zbadania wpływu postrzegania EI, metodą regresji logistycznej łącznie przeanalizowano 5000 próbek: z Polski (n = 2000) i Tajlandii (n = 3000).
