Opis:
The article presents the integration of digital topographic map of forests and short-term weather forecast al lowing to conduct a computer simulation of forest fire. To execute a simulation, a software was produced. The software includes deterministic mathematical model of forest fire, programmed on the basis of developed assumptions. Creation of mentioned environment simulation was based on a need for the optimum planning of extinguishing actions in local fire service centres.

Opis:
This article analyses the accuracy of the presentation of forests on Polish topographic maps. Four test polygons were selected, differing in forest coverage and spatial distribution of forest areas in order to improve the objectivity of the study. All the polygons were located in Roztocze. Four maps were tested: System 1965 (1:50 000), GUGIK80 (1:100 000), PUWG92 (1:10 000), and VMap L2 (1:50 000). The forest areas from the maps and aerial photographs were vectorised; then the photographs were converted into an orthophotomap that constituted the reference material. All materials were coherent in terms of content validity. After vectorising the range of the forests, sampling was conducted within the hexagonal fields. A comparison of the obtained values provided the basis for maps that presented the errors. The analysis permitted several conclusions to be drawn, generally stating that the credibility of maps within the scope of presenting forest areas depends on the scale and purpose of the map, and that any analyses based on these maps should assume that the results should have higher tolerance levels.

Opis:
An approach to the implementation of spatial inventory of greenhouse gas sinks and emissions in forestry sector is presented. The algorithms for disaggregation of official statistical data on forests at the regional level, and formation of geodistributed database using the digital map of land use are proposed. As an example the forests of Subcarpathian Voivodeship of Poland were investigated. This study presents the results of modeling the flow of carbon in forest phytomass taking into account different tree species composition, age class and other characteristics. The ‘regional’ coefficients for phytomass and carbon deposited were clarified taking into account regional specificity. Also an algorithm for determining aboveground and underground phytomass of tree by its stock and forests of different types has been created. The correlation between the total area and stock for each species of forest-forming stands was analysed. The multilayer digital maps of deposited carbon, and greenhouse gas emissions in forests of Subcarpathian Voivodeship were created. For the spatial inventory of forest phytomass the territory of voivodeship was divided into square areas 2x2 kilometers in size, and stock phytomass in each such elementary area has been analised. Acheaved results were verified using GIS technology, and forest inventory data.

The composition presents a prototype solution (system POTOK) of a complex problem such as advanced assistance for researches in hydrological terms of forest areas. The idea of this system was based on a junction of two technologies: relational database and digital projection of space. The database is a ground of application that allowed creating ad hoc queries accomplished by advanced processing and also gives wide prospects of visualising the results (in 3D). The system could be used in related branches of science.

Opis:
Modern technologies make it possible to obtain a lot of diverse information about the soil properties using satellite images, but field studies are also required to create or refine digital soil maps. To create a digital soil map scaled 1:25 000 in 2016, a classical field study was conducted with the laying of soil sections in places with the same coordinates as in the mapping of 1982. It allowed to carry out retrospective monitoring of transformation of morphogenetic and agrochemical properties of soils of the southern forest-steppe of the Republic of Bashkortostan (Russia) for the 34-year period of farm use. Thus, the correction and digitization of the soil map allowed to establish that arable land occupies 69.792 ha (67.9%) in the structure of agricultural land (102 811 ha). The monitoring showed deterioration of the main characteristics of arable soil fertility: the diminishing of humus-accumulative horizons, significant decrease of humus content (p ≤ 0.05), a small but reliable acidification of the medium reaction and reducing labile phosphorus. Losses of organic matter occurred mainly in the most fertile soils; their proportion decreased from 55.9% of the total area of agricultural land to 12.4%.

Opis:
In this paper, we propose a new approach to the presentation of the spatio-temporal evolution of landscape using a multi-component multi-scenario animated map system. The concept of multi-scenario map was introduced with a few conceptual level objectives. Firstly, to facilitate understanding of geographic spatio-temporal changeability (especially landscape changeability) by the use of complex cartographic animations. Secondly, to investigate factors which influence an intuitive and effective use of multi-component cartographic applications. In relation to understanding processes, the overriding purpose was to build up a generic approach that allows users to recognize features of complex geographic phenomena. Finally, since the implementation of the concept was of importance, a prototype has been prepared.
