Opis:
Time analysis is a common approach for testing and detecting methods for the performance analysis of computer systems. In the article it is shown, that measuring and identifying performances based on a benchmark is not sufficient for the proper analysis of the computer systems behavior. The response time of the process is often composed of the execution of many subprocesses or many paths of execution. Under this assumption, it is presented, that both convolution and deconvolution methods can be helpful in obtaining time distributions and modeling of complex processes. In such a modeling the analysis of measurement errors is very important and was taken into consideration. The example of using the methods in buffering process is also discussed.

Opis:
The use of antibiotics to treat bacterial infections is becoming less and less effective year by year due to the increasing resistance of bacteria. The microbial evolutionarily acquired resistance to antibiotics increases the threat to man’s life due to difficulties regarding effective therapies to fight infections. Therefore, apart from treatment, it is necessary to introduce appropriate prophylaxis which limits the multiplication of bacterial colonies on everyday use objects. Due to the antibiotic resistance phenomenon, it is important to find a new material with antibacterial properties for FDM 3D printing in medical applications. The work contains research on a new chemical compound used as an additive to thermoplastics. The rhodamine derivative was synthesized via the 4-diphenylaminobenzaldehyde reaction with 1.3-indendione in a boiling mixture of EtOH/H2SO4. The obtained chemical compound was used as a bacteriostatic modifier of the polycarbonate (PC) properties, as such a modification enables application e.g. for medical device housings or for surfaces frequently touched by people. The modifier and the commercially available polymer were compounded with a high-temperature screw extruder and a filament for FDM 3D printer was created. The modified polymer revealed antibacterial properties relative to Escherichia coli and good thermal stability during the processing.

In the paper there are results of the research on competitiveness of Polish companies which was conducted within the Company Competitiveness Barometer in 2014. The paper includes a short description of the integrated company competitiveness model, their integral elements and methodology of the research. Then there are results of a competitive potential, a strategy of competition, a competitive advantage, a competitive position of examined companies. 252 companies took part in the Company Competitiveness Barometer 2014. Answers to the survey placed on www.konkurencyjniprzetrwaja.pl allow to get knowledge about a sample of Polish companies in different sectors of economy. The data was also a foundation to verify some theoretical assumptions of the relations between the elements of competitiveness.

Opis:
Research background: A lot of companies in the market create a variety of situations in which they compete with one another. At the same time companies crave for the same pool of demand, and in fact the money held by the buyers. Attempts to define the notion of com-petitiveness of the company appear frequently in scientific publications and in the research conducted by various institutions in different countries. The concept of competitiveness is used to determine the ratio of enterprise characteristics to these of its competitors, resulting from many internal features and the ability to deal with an external environment. Purpose of the article: The purpose of this article is to present results of the Company Competitiveness Barometer, conducted in 2014, 2015 and 2016 on a group of more than 600 Polish companies. The Barometer is a theoretical basis for the integrated model of competi-tiveness designed by the authors of the article. The specific objectives of this article are: to provide an overview of the research methodology, to present the results of empirical studies of more than 600 Polish companies, to create an outline of the future direction of the research on competitiveness of enterprises by means of the Company Competitiveness Barometer. Methods: The questionnaire used in the Company Competitiveness Barometer is built of 48 questions. 45 of them are related to the characteristics of the company that are affecting its competitiveness, and 3 questions are metric questions. The questionnaire can be found on the www.sensorium24.com website. Findings & Value added: The research carried out from the point of view of the company?s employees, offer an opportunity to reflect and think about the competitiveness of their own organization and factors that are shaping it. The IT tool used makes it possible to compare own results with other companies participating in the survey.

Carcinoid is a neuroendocrine tumor, secretes into the bloodstream biologically active substances (e.g., serotonin, histamine). These are rare tumors, localized in different areas of the body, including the gastrointestinal tract; mainly in the appendix. Here are found accidentally during histopathological examination of the appendix removed because of acute inflammation. The paper presents a case of carcinoid of the appendix in a 14-year-old girl. The aim of the study is to present diagnostic difficulties in the course of carcinoid pediatric patient and draw attention to the unusual clinical picture.

FPGAs have big computing possibilities and therefore are very popular as dedicated hardware accelerators. A few years ago, FPGAs were expensive and the cheapest ones had very limited capabilities, because of small amount of logic elements and slow internal clocks. Nowadays, cheap development boards are available at a price below 50€ with abilities to transmit even HDMI signals. This paper covers implementation of the soft processor with a 3D graphics coprocessor on the cheapest available FPGA board with HDMI connector, containing only 8k Logic Elements.

Opis:
The aim of the paper is to present results of the research that was focused on managers’ behaviours. We tried to discover the main differences between the real trajectory and perception of managers in the field of two types of management processes. In the first part of the paper there is a theoretical foundation of process management and conclusions that led to a research model. In the second part we present the state of art in the field of human perception theories. Then, we describe assumptions of the research and methods of gathering data. What is important in the case of research method, an observation and a survey were used. The observation was done using the online management tools. During the research, managers were given a small project to lead. We recorded their actions and when their projects were completed, we asked them how they had acted. As a result of the research, there are three examples of description of managers’ behaviours and their perception. In the introduction we formulated two hypotheses and on the grounds of the research result we prove both statements in conclusion of the paper.

Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to present an answer to the research question of what could be the real impact of an artificial manager on the work of a team consisting of humans. Design/methodology/approach: In presenting the arguments for one way of proceeding AI-based management, a review of the recent literature in the field of artificial management and artificial leadership was used. The artificial manager used in the research was the result of a non-participating, long-term observation of a group of students working on an specific task, whose activity was recorded by online management tools called TransistorsHead.com. Findings: The real impact of the artificial manager on the human team members was very weak. Although team members were taking similar managerial actions as they were told by the system of TransistorsHead.com, they mixed the order and decreased or increased a period of the managerial actions. Research limitations/implications: Human members did not feel any emotional pressure on their behaviour from the artificial manager and they do not treat the system too seriously. What is interesting, the most obedient person was the appointed assistant of the artificial manager. The rest two members did not obey the rules. Practical implications: If we manage to create an artificial manager, it will be much harder to make it effective in working with human team members. The research on team management automation will impact upon the business by giving a chance of implementing artificial management. Social implications: even if we manage to create an artificial manager, it will be much harder to make it effective in working with human team members. Originality/value: There is a new research problem of replacing a human manager with an artificial manager which has to be solved in management sciences and managerial practice in the future. This paper contains findings which are the next step in solving a new research problem of replacing a human manager with an artificial manager.
