Opis:
The maximum ice-sheet extent of a glaciation or glacial phase is in most cases indicated by the position of end moraines. In some cases, however, the maximum extent of the ice sheet is indicated by a fan which represents the transitional zone between the end moraine and the proximal outwash plain (sandur). Such a fan from the Pomeranian phase near Charlottenthal in NE Germany has been investigated for its lithofacies, and the depositional mechanisms of the two sedimentary environments (end moraine and outwash plain) are reconstructed. The Charlottenthal profile is not characteristic in a sedimentological sense of a typical marginal end moraine or a sandur. The deposits represent subaerial debris flows, sheet floods and channelized currents, which are typically processes for transitional fan. Gravel samples from the till complex show typical Weichselian till compositions. These till compositions indicate a general transport direction from North to South, which is consistent with the known movement of the ice sheet during the Pomeranian phase of the Weichselian.

Opis:
The Złota Góra hills (Central Poland) have been variously interpreted as a kame, a sandur and as different types of moraine. Due to their morphology and internal structure, the Złota Góra hills differ, however, from typical depositional glacigenic landforms in the European lowlands. Morphologically, the Złota Góra hills consist of numerous asymmetrical and oval hills of various sizes. The deposits show a wide variety of lithofacies, which are diagnostic for debris flows, hyperconcentrated flows, sheetfloods, braided rivers, deltas and ephemeral lakes. The combination of such deposits is characteristic of an environmental setting including both an end moraine fan (debris flows, hyperconcentrated flows, sheetfloods and ephemeral lake deposits) and a sandur (braided river, sheetfloods, and delta or ephemeral lake deposits). Therefore, these hills must be interpreted as representing an end moraine/sandur massif. The hills were probably formed subaerially by meltwater in an interlobate area of the retreating Scandinavian ice sheet.

Opis:
Since 1990 in Poland, a lot of soils have been changed to fallow. At first, degraded soils from eroded areas were changed. Some of them are fallow till today.Research work was carried out on the erroded soils that were under intense agricultural use in the 80-ties.Investigations on the superficial layer of these soils were carried out in 1995, after a four-year periodof fallow conditions. The investigations concentrated on the changes in chemical properties of the humus horizon (0 - 20cm) and changes of biological activity (0-40 cm) formed during the fallow period. The range of changes in the chemical properties was not big. However, biological activity of these soils changed more substantially. A decrease of C organic content was also characteristics. The present authors determined also a decrease of hydrolytic acidity in some soils, according to their location in the relief. In some soils, the content of Mg and K available forms was higher. Some of the soil functions related to habitation were changed too, e.g. visible forms of water erosion stopped.
