Opis:
The aim of the study was to map teachers’ preferred approaches to handling bullying among students. The scaled Handling Bullying Questionnaire (Bauman et al., 2008) was used. The structure of the research tool was determined using exploratory factor analysis indicating the existence of 5 dimensions. The good fit of the model to the actual data was verified using confirmatory factor analysis returning very good values of the good fit indices (CFI, TLI, RMSEA, SRMR, GFI). 696 teachers of the elementary school second level participated in the research. Their mean age was 46.53 years (SD = 9.34) and the mean length of their experience was 21.10 years (SD = 10.44). Male teachers scored statistically significantly higher on the dimension „Disciplining the bully“; teachers who had obtained their qualification through a supplementary pedagogical study scored statistically significantly lower on the dimension „Ignoring the incident“ and higher on the dimensions „Enlisting other adults“ and „Disciplining the bully“; class teachers scored statistically significantly higher on the dimension „Working with the bully“; teachers having received anti-bullying training within their continuing education scored statistically significantly higher on the dimensions „Working with the bully“ and „Enlisting other adults“; teachers with functions aimed at sorting out students’ problem behaviour scored the lowest on the dimension „Ignoring the incident“. Neglectful and weak effects were identified of the differences in resulting values. Also, a weak direct dependence appeared between working with the bully as the preferred approach and the length of teachers’ experience.

The presented study aims to compare occupational stress of 50 teachers and 56 firefighters. Both these groups are laden with high exposure to work-related stress. For assessing the occupational load the Meister questionnaire was used. We found that teachers percieved their occupational stress worse than firefighters and reached the 2nd degree of load. They complained mostly about the factor of overload and factors of the stress reactions – fatigue, mental overload and unacceptability to perform pedagogical work in the same intensity for a long time. Firefighters achieved better results (1st degree of load), even better than the population norm. An explanation may be found in the fact that firefighters represent a selected population of emotionally, psychically and physically resistant individuals.

Video-Based Interaction (VBI) for teachers does not have any meaning without the presence of an instructor and a process of interaction. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of VBI in Teacher Working Group (TWG) forums to improve teachers’ professionalism in science learning in elementary schools. This study involved 36 teachers in rural and city areas by using a one group pretest - posttest design. N-gain was used to analyze the effectiveness of VBI in TWG forums to improve teachers’ teaching skills. The study showed that VBI significantly increases teacher professionalism to reach professional levels. The results were also consistent with the N-gain category of teacher professionalism in planning, implementation, and relations components.

Mathematics-related beliefs play an important role in giving a teacher directions for taking decisions and for their behavior in a mathematics class. Therefore, the purposes of this research are to reveal the profile of teachers’ mathemat- ics-related beliefs, the consistency among belief dimensions, teachers’ practical profile in a mathematics class, and the consistency between beliefs and teachers’ practices in a mathematics class. This research used surveys with a cross-sec- tional design to collect data from 325 elementary school teachers in Jakarta. Teachers’ beliefs instruments and teachers’ practices in mathematics class were used to collect data. The findings of this research indicate that teachers tend to be constructivism-oriented but are not accompanied with suitable practices in mathematics class. Moreover, complex relationships also occur in both belief dimensions and in their relationships with the practices in a mathematics class.

Many authors have spoken against controlling environments and in favour of autonomous ones. In order to estimate perceived autonomy levels in the classroom, we decided to compare teachers’ perceptions with students’ ones, gaining a more accurate idea of the autonomy levels present in the classroom. The study participants (231 students, 18 teachers) provided data which showed how the teachers’ perceptions differ from the students’ ones in all cases, generally the teachers rating autonomy levels higher than the students. We also found indicators of differences present among teachers of the same subject areas as well as in terms of the students’ gender, school and age.

Opis:
The article deals with the problem of the formation of the worldview culture of the carriers of Good, Beauty and Truth, namely primary school teachers. According to the author, the elementary school teacher is the first professional person, who has an opportunity to provide the younger generation with the knowledge about the contemporary picture of the world, shaping their readiness for changes and effective solution of different life situations. The problem of forming the worldview culture of future educators has been the subject of researches conducted by a number of scholars in different scientific fields. Most educators defined this term as the content of the views and beliefs of an individual, his or her social attitudes and moral principles of behavior. In the article the role of innovative psychological-pedagogical and spiritual-therapeutic educational practice – aesthetotherapy, which allows opening a person’s interests and aspirations to ideals in their worldview value – has been actualized. The author covers the experience of aesthetotherapeutic preparation of future elementary school teachers in the context of forming a worldview culture. Such professional education is carried out in the form of working out a number of professionally-oriented games and exercises, in particular: art-technique (“Self-portrait”), phototherapeutic exercise (“Way of life” and “Working with polarities”), “Creating a fairy tale” technique, methods of derephlexia, etc.
Artykuł dotyczy problemu kształtowania kultury perspektywicznej nosicieli Dobra, Piękna i Prawdy, a mianowicie nauczycieli szkół podstawowych. Ponadto omówiono proces przygotowania do terapii estetycznej przyszłych nauczycieli szkół podstawowych w kontekście kształtowania kultury światopoglądowej.

Opis:
Nowadays, increasingly more attention is being paid to the issue of aggressive behaviour, primarily owing to a stronger awareness of children’s rights and parents’ responsibility to promote them. The number of systematic studies dealing with the relational level and the area of covert aggressive behaviour is limited. In the past, studies investigating aggressive behaviour primarily focused on its most typical manifestation, i.e. physical aggression. In the postmodern period, however, experts have begun to explore different forms of aggressive behaviour which are particularly typical of girls. In this study the authors focused on various forms of covert violence to which girls in elementary schools are exposed. The descriptions of behaviours provided by both teachers and girls reveal a variety of forms of covert aggression among girls as well as a range of related incidents and their causes.

Opis:
After a brief introduction to the Montessori model of education (psychological foundations, guiding principles, distinctive features), the Author’s contribution is aimed at giving a satisfactory representation of the Montessori teacher, in particular the one dealing with learners at the elementary school stage. The framework is developed using a selection of sources belonging to three different types: Montessori’s writings, visual materials, empirical data. Each section collects specific material with the intention of bringing it to the attention of the reader, allowing wider reflection from different points of view. The triangulation of the proposed contents and data is seen as a method for considering this complex but fascinating teacher profile both in its theoretical specificities and in its operational qualities in the context in which the teaching-learning process takes place. The desired overall results should allow a greater focus on the profile and role of the Montessori teacher in the elementary school as well as giving the reader himself the opportunity to elaborate further reflections and conclusions independently.

School experiments represent a necessary means of subject-matter presentation in chemistry education and are important for chemical (scientific) thinking. Despite being a focus of several texts, a complex view on the experimental activity in chemistry education in Czechia is missing. The results of a questionnaire survey among 466 lower-secondary, lyceum and grammar school teachers focused on types of conducted experiments, their frequency, the place they are conducted. The most frequently used chemicals and sources of inspiration are presented in the paper. The results show that despite experiments’ significant role in education, its occurrence is rather seldom and teacher’s demonstrations prevail over students’ experiments. The list of the most often used chemicals suggests the experiments are mostly focused on inorganic chemistry. These results open further questions regarding occupational safety at schools as an important factor which could also be the reason for such a low representation of experiments in Czech chemistry education.

Opis:
In an era of various crises faced by modern France, the attention of policymakers shaping the ideological policy of the state has focused primarily on the intersection of education and religion. The programmatic secularism of education, inscribed in the essence of the concept of the Republic as a space for the realisation of liberty, equality, fraternity, has become an arena of clashing opposing discourses. The aim of this article is to attempt to understand the place of the values of the Fifth French Republic in the recruitment process of current and future early childhood education teachers in public schools in France in the deontological, praxeological and didactic dimensions. Textbooks for candidates are the primary source for this study. Using the hermeneutic method, the starting point was the course of the recruitment competition in the context of the legislator’s expectations of candidates. Next, the focus was on the exegesis of republican values, with particular emphasis on secularism (laïcité). The issues of teachers’ duties and the place of these values in the teaching-learning process were also addressed. The study closes with a summary that also refers to the broader cultural context of contemporary France.
Pytanie o miejsce wartości V Republiki w procesie rekrutacyjnym obecnych i przyszłych nauczycieli edukacji wczesnoszkolnej w państwowych szkołach dotyka francuskiej polityki oświatowej, ukazując jej filozofię oraz prakseologiczny wymiar jej konceptualizacji.
