In this theoretical work we analyze the total effective electric power versus base acceleration amplitude generated by the energy harvesting system with an electromagnetic transducer. We compare the results for both linear and nonlinear case. The transition from linear to nonlinear behavior of the system can be achieved by the change of device geometry. To improve the power efficiency of our device we also examine the dependence of crossover point of acceleration amplitudes where generated power in the nonlinear system starts to exceed the generated power in the linear regime. We have found that the crossover point can be moved towards relatively small base acceleration values by appropriate selection of system nonlinearity "strength".

This paper presents the development of a cooling apparatus using water in a commercial photovoltaic panel in order to analyze the increased efficiency through decreased operating temperature. The system enables the application of reuse water flow, at ambient temperature, on the front surface of PV panel and is composed of an inclined plane support, a perforated aluminum profile and a water gutter. A luminaire was specially developed to simulate the solar radiation over the module under test in a closed room, free from the influence of external climatic conditions, to carry out the repetition of the experiment in controlled situations. The first case study was published at EEEIC2016 conference where the panel was submitted to different rates of water flow, from 1 L/min to 4 L/min. In the test conditions without cooling apparatus, the panel reached about 70°C and produced approximately 63Wh. With the cooling apparatus with water flow rate of 2 L/min, the module reached about 50°C and produced approximately 77Wh. However, it has been observed that this water flow was overestimated. A second case study was carried out in order to perform the threshold between the flow and the energy produced. The best ratio was flow of 0.6 L/min and net energy of 77.41Wh. Gain of 22.69% compared to the panel without the cooling system. The best water flow rate was of 0.6 L/min and net energy of 77.41Wh. Gain of 22.69% compared to the panel without the cooling system.

Cogeneration can be defined as the general production of thermodynamic heat and electricity from a single initial source of energy. The device, in which the process of cogeneration occurs, is called cogeneration device. Cogeneration changes separated electric energy and heat production. The separation of electric energy and heat production is characterized by substantial energy losses of initial fuel. In the separated power generation, the user receives the electric energy, which is produced by the large-scale power plants and heat is produced in high-efficiency boilers. In this case losses make about 40% in produced heat and 60% – produced electric energy.

The electrical performance and the productivity of PV module depend on two main parameters, i.e. the radiation intensity and the cell operating temperature. The module electrical efficiency and productivity are significantly reduced as its temperature increases. Accordingly, cooling of PV modules is one of the most effective techniques to obtain higher efficiency and productivity as well as to reduce the degradation modes of PV modules due to high temperatures. This research work presents an experimental study carried out to investigate the effect of PV module cooling on the performance of PV module under Irbid city (Jordan) climate conditions. It was found that the electrical efficiency and the productivity of the PV modules were approximately enhanced by 14%. Therefore, water cooling of the PV modules is essential to enhance their performance.

Opis:
A big interest in application of cold crucible furnace (CCF) for industrial, particularly metallurgical, processes has been observed in recent years. They are mainly utilised for melting of metal, glass and other materials. Analyses of processes that occur in such devices are performed; however, computer modelling is rarely applied. As a precise determination of the electromagnetic field distribution is essential for a proper analysis of processes in furnaces with cold crucibles, a complex 3D model development is necessary. In the paper, effects of a crucible design and current frequency on the efficiency of the induction furnace with cold crucible are presented. Numerical calculations were performed with the use of the Flux 3D professional software.
Wyznaczenie rozkładu pola elektromagnetycznego z należytą dokładnością to warunek niezbędny do właściwej analizy zjawisk zachodzących w piecach z zimnym tyglem i dlatego wymaga zbudowania skomplikowanego modelu 3D. W artykule przedstawiono wpływ konstrukcji tygla i częstotliwości prądu zasilającego na wydajność pieca z zimnym tyglem. Obliczenia numeryczne przeprowadzono z wykorzystaniem profesjonalnego programu komputerowego Flux 3D.

The paper presents data resulting by the preliminary experimental tests performed on a micro CHP (combined heat and power) 7 kWel unit. The engine load has been controlled by throttle position (quantitatively) or/and the value of air excess ratio (qualitatively) QQLC. By this way the engine efficiency can be improved in the range of partial loads by reducing the exergy losses during the inlet stroke. During the tests engine has been powered with LPG fuel. The engine performance together with environmental impact has been studied in this paper. Used method shows that despite the reduction of the load from 5.6 kW to 4.7 kW while burning the lean mixture, the efficiency of electricity generation increased slightly. The efficiency grew by approx. 1.41 percentage point comparing with the results obtained for almost constant load but obtained by burning the lean mixture (λ = 1.3), followed by increased throttling and combustion of the stoichiometric mixture.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to study the position and power performances of an electrical lead screw-driven industrial gripper mechanism (LSDIGM). This work consists of designing and developing an electrical LSDIGM that has the potential to meet various demands in the automation industry and factories. The performances of both angular electrical gripper (AEG) and parallel electrical gripper (PEG) mechanisms were compared based on their position and power efficiency. The position efficiency of these electrical LSDIGM is computed from the position root mean square error (PRMSE) obtained from errors between the two measured positions (input incremental encoder and output linear encoder). In the experimental setup, a current sensor and a spring were employed to measure the current in the input of the system and the stiffness in the output of the system, respectively. The electrical power in the input of the electrical LSDIGM and the mechanical power in the output of the LSDIGMs were calculated using the current and the spring force, respectively. Finally, the power efficiency of these electrical LSDIGMs was examined and compared at different velocity circumstances.

Availability of light to solar cells is crucial for the efficiency of photovoltaic systems. For this reason, even partial shading can result in significant reduction of generated electric power (loss of current). This paper examines the changes in the efficiency of multicrystalline silicon solar cells which are caused by different kinds of shading. Full and partial shading were simulated by the use of three types of shutter-foils printed in a gray and black scale. The measurements of current-voltage characteristics show that totally or partially shaded modules can drastically reduce the generated power. Short circuit current decreases from about 8100 to 100 mA that in the case of the series connection of cells in a module, lead to the shift of the point of the maximum power and finally to the considerable reduction of nominal system photovoltaic power.

Magnetic circuits of electromagnetic energy converters, such as electrical machines, are nowadays highly utilized. This proposition is intrinsic for the magnetic as well as the electric circuit and depicts that significant enhancements of electrical machines are difficult to achieve in the absence of a detailed understanding of underlying effects. In order to improve the properties of electrical machines the accurate determination of the locally distributed iron losses based on idealized model assumptions solely is not sufficient. Other loss generating effects have to be considered and the possibility being able to distinguish between the causes of particular loss components is indispensable. Parasitic loss mechanisms additionally contributing to the total losses originating from field harmonics, non-linear material behaviour, rotational magnetizations, and detrimental effects caused by the manufacturing process or temperature, are not explicitly considered in the common iron-loss models, probably even not specifically contained in commonly used calibration factors. This paper presents a methodology being able to distinguish between different loss mechanisms and enables to individually consider particular loss mechanisms in the model of the electric machine. A sensitivity analysis of the model parameters can be performed to obtain information about which decisive loss origin for which working point has to be manipulated by the electromagnetic design or the control of the machine.

Opis:
This paper presents the investigations and performance analysis of monofacial and bifacial crystalline silicon solar cells with PC1D simulation software. The fundamental limitation in the monofacial solar cell’s performance is its inability to absorb all the incoming solar radiation since the albedo effect (ground-reflected light that can be captured by the rear of the solar cell) is often neglected. So, the efficiency of the monofacial cell will be lower due to poor and incomplete optical absorption. Bifaciality helps to enhance the capturing of light in the solar cell, which means that the rear of the cell is exposed to solar radiation to produce electrical power. The primary focus of our work is to determine which solar cell offers better device performance and conversion efficiency by analyzing various parameters of the solar cell like surface texturing, emitter doping, bulk doping, minority carrier lifetime, bulk and surface recombination rates, front and rear reflectance, among other parameters. The other parameters are maintained at an optimal range to achieve the highest conversion efficiency. Our work has shown that the bifacial solar cell can be as efficient as 28.15%, which is much better than the 22.65% efficiency of the monofacial solar cell.
