Opis:
This paper presents the results of research of Ni/diamond composite coatings produced by electrochemical reduction method. Research was focused on composite coatings with nickel matrix and diamond as a disperse phase and for comparison purposes on nanocrystalline nickel coatings. Ni/diamond composite coatings were produced in baths with different content of nanodiamond powder. The structures of the dispersed phase and the composite coatings were analysed by using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and light microscopy. Measurements of selected properties of the coatings were performed, including roughness, microhardness, adhesion and abrasive wear resistance. The research results indicate that the produced coatings have a compact structure and good adherence to steel substrate. Moreover, nanocrystalline Ni/diamond composite coatings exhibit greater hardness and reduced abrasive wear resistance compared to nanocrystalline nickel coatings.

The main focus of the paper is on one of the most significant issues of economic geography nowadays, namely ways of an efficient distribution of facilities on the basis of inter-industry complexity (on the example of the diamond industry). The description of the formation of the complex branch of the diamond industry is carried out in several stages: determining the cause of inter-sectoral cooperation in the diamond industry; investigating territorial features of the complex that belongs to ABA, the most important of which is the difficulty of forming the WPK national (country) level; defining a cluster as the main form of territorial complexity characteristic of ABK (its types and causes of formation, characteristics of each cluster); and drawing conclusions about the appropriate degree of territorial concentration of various activities under the ABA type of market for which they are characterised. Special attention is paid to the identification and examination of territorial complexity types in the diamond complex in Russia.

Opis:
This paper describes the effects of principle factors which have an influence on potential diamond retention capabilities in powder metallurgy diamond tools. Investigations were carried out using a 3-D computer model of diamond particle embedded in a metallic matrix. The proposed model assumed that the material was fully densified by the hot pressing technique and then cooled down to room temperature. The energies of plastic and elastic deformation of the matrix around the diamond grit as well as recoverable strain energy accumulated in the grit on cooling were calculated. The effects of Young's modulus and yield strength of the matrix as well as friction between diamond and matrix on these energies were analysed. The obtained results have shown that a matrix characterised by high yield strength ensures better diamond retention capacity whereas high Young's modulus of the matrix and its chemical affinity to carbon, which increases friction at the diamond-matrix interface seem to have lower importance.
W pracy przedstawiono analizę wpływu podstawowych czynników mających wpływ na własności retencyjne materiału osnowy w narzędziowych spiekach metaliczno-diamentowych. Badania wykonano z zastosowaniem modeli 3-D cząstki diamentu osadzonej w osnowie.

We discuss the side resonances of the optically detected magnetic resonance in a diamond crystal and propose a new approach to the calculation of the hyperfine interaction in a composed system consisting of a negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy NV- center and a nearby 13C nuclear spin. The energy levels, rule selection and radiative transitions are obtained by a new method. The base of this method is the use of a complete set of commuting operators and entangled spin states. An estimation of the carbon hyperfine splitting parameters in the diamond NV- center from side-resonance frequencies is obtained in the frame of this method.

Opis:
Superfinishing with the use of diamond lapping films differs to a significant extent from other machining methods. This is finishing surface machining, one which is realized by a slow rewinding of a microfinishing film, putting it in an oscillating motion and pressing the tool to the surface being machined. The surface being machined moves with a speed which is substantially greater than that of the tool feed. A characteristic feature of the process is a one-time use of the tool, the result being a need of an optimal selection of the machining parameters. Investigations of the topography of the microfinishing film surface were conducted with the use of new parameters that describe the arrangement and the shape of the vertices of active grains. The following were used for the purpose of assessment: coefficients that had been developed that describe the features of the shape of the tool surface, such as the standardized coefficient of the flatness of vertices wNki, the standardized number of vertices in relation to an area unit LNwi and the dissipation coefficient of the height of the location of vertices wNrwi. For the purpose of the assessment of the smoothening ability of diamond lapping films the smoothening potential coefficient wp was developed, which is defined as the geometric mean of the abovementioned indices.

Opis:
The main objective of the present work was to determine the effect of powder composition on microstructure and properties of iron-base materials used as matrices in diamond impregnated tools. The Fe-Cu-Ni powders premixed and ball-milled for 30 hours, were used for the experiments. The influence of manufacturing process parameters on microstructure and mechanical properties of produced sinters was investigated. Sintering was done by hot-pressing technique in graphite mould. The powders were consolidated to a virtually pore-free condition during 3 minutes hold at 35 MPa and 900°C. Investigations of the sintered materials included: density, hardness, static tensile test and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Microstructural and fractographic observations were also made with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The obtained results indicate that the sintered parts have a high density, close to the theoretical value, good plasticity, relatively high hardness and yield strength, and are characterized by a coarse-grained microstructure.

The presence of diamonds in meteorites was confirmed for the first time in the Novo-Ureiureilite in 1888. Ureilites are a rare class of achondrites, often referred to as primitive achondrites. They are composed of olivine and pyroxene (pygeonite), as well as graphite inclusions often coexisting with diamonds. The following three main hypotheses of diamond origin in ureilites have been proposed: the HPHT process, graphite-to-diamond conversion under shock compression due to impact on the parent body (the most popular theory, as of the time of publication), and the CVD process in the solar nebula. The samples of all types of ureilites, from less shocked up to highly shocked, were examined using Raman Spectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy. The results show the presence of diamonds in all of our samples. Of particular significance is the comparison of Raman spectra of diamonds and graphite phases of different ureilites.

Opis:
National competitiveness is a buzzword that awakens much interest and controversy. In its broadest perspective, it is seen as a modern way of describing the development efforts of nations in the times of globalization (Reinert 2001, p. 23-42). This means that forces driving the changes in the global economy: liberalization of international trade, booming investment by multinational enterprises and development of regional integration groupings, need to be included into the competitiveness model. Well-known and commonly used approach to national competitiveness: Porter’s diamond of competitive advantage does not however capture this international context. By concentrating solely on the elements of the domestic environment, the model does not show the complicated international linkages that have shaped the competitiveness of many countries. Especially in the case of small, open ‘catching-up’ economies, assessing national competitiveness solely on the basis of the potential of domestic companies, based on local conditions, does not fully reflect their developmental context, which is also driven by the complex networks of international interdependencies. Building upon the generalized double diamond model developed by Moon et al. (2000), this paper explores the extent to which economic relations with international partners and the activities oftransnational corporations affect the competitiveness of the Visegrad Group countries, and how this relationship has been changing in the post-accession period. To answer the research problem posed, Eurostat and Global Competitiveness Report data have been gathered to assess the competitiveness variables on both the domestic/national and international levels. It has been shown that integration within the global economy constitutes an essential element of competitiveness for each of the analysed countries.
