Opis:
In the light of recent world facts, there has been growing attention paid to refugee minors who, fleeing from violence, war, poverty and climate change, or seeking better opportunities, hope to reach safety in Europe. Challenging life experiences such as war, violence, forced displacement, etc., can potentially threaten children’s development. However, many succeed in turning their lives around and develop well despite such negative circumstances. Refugee children, often overlooked by immigration laws and policy makers, prove to be a particularly resilient group, very resourceful in mechanisms for overcoming life adversities. By taking this understanding of refugee minors as a starting point, this article provides an overview of research in the field of resilience, aiming to discuss the implications that tie refugee minors’ well-being to the human and children’s rights obligations that society bears towards them. The article concludes that there is an urgent need for interventions and programs which target factors that promote refugee children’s resilience in their design and implementation, informed by current knowledge of refugee children’s life and cultural background, and their self-ratings of negative and positive life events. The standards defined by human and children’s rights instruments and equity regarding children’s rights to achieve a good life should be a matter to be taken seriously for all children worldwide.

At present, there are a large number of manufacturers operating on the market, which are engaged in the production and distribution of mechatronic and robotic toys. These toys range from the cheapest and simplest to sophisticated costly models for play education. Looking at the market offer, it can be stated that mechatronic toys are being produced, which are intended for children of several months. When developing children’s and educational robotics, it is, therefore, necessary to take into account the psychomotor development of the child. Respecting or not respecting it has a major impact on the success of the toy for the consumer and the fulfillment of the educational goal for which it is intended. Last but not least, in connection with the child’s development, the question arises as to what ergonomic principles, when designing toys intended for children depending on age, need to be respected and implemented into solutions to eliminate problems related to the development of children’s and educational robotics. The subject of interest in the article is the age groups of children from birth to preschool age. The aim of the article is to identify which factors in the construction of children’s robotic toys for the youngest children up to the period of preschool age are key from the point of view of ergonomics.

Opis:
Article is deeply rooted in the history of society, presents the historical and socio-cultural situation of phenomenon of playing, children’s games and the role of children’s literature between the Enlightenment and Romanticism and shows that especially the middle class does not occupy an outstanding position. On the contrary, the middle class belongs to the most sceptical social forces. The central values of the middle class – especially the puritan, Calvinist und pietistic parts of it – are different: industriousness, diligence, asceticism, the sacrifice of pleasure, efficiency and rationality. In the bourgeois use of time, all idleness basically counts as suspicious, all playing as a useless waste of time. This attitude is reinforced by the polemical delimitation from the noble and courtly lifestyle, in which all kinds of games have a central place and which, for this reason, is viewed as parasitic. Article pays attention also to the German word for play or game (in German, there is just one word for this, “Spiel”), which can be used for mental games, word play, but also the performance on stage or in an orchestra. Beyond this, text emphasised how to classify genres based on play with language, with sense and nonsense, as well as literary patterns, and genres such as nonsense poetry and parody, as part of intellectual culture rather than part of play culture.

Opis:
Children’s literature and art activities are not only useful for creativity but also quite functional for education through new understanding in the contemporary perspectives about learning. For instance, philosophy for children is a wide-spread methodology to reveal children’s potentials by building a “community of inquiry” at classrooms. Children’s books and animations can provide a magnificent starting point for those philosophical discussions. However, in many societies, children and young people are still underestimated that the usual point of view about children’s literature used to include ‘softer’ topics, which is likewise to be ‘censored’ compared to literature in general. All products for children have usually function to cultivate new generations according to traditional discourse underlying in society. The essential purpose of this paper is to reveal possibilities to shape traditional discourse into an expanded perspective with children utilizing discussion and critical thinking. It is supposed to analyze the artworks for children in variable ways, by embodying discourse within. In between education and entertainment, cultural products also expected to be age-appropriate. Besides the relation between adult-children distinction and all cultural products, specifically produced ‘for’ children, how children see themselves is directly related to how they interpret cultural products. In this paper, two short animations, Alike, and Ian which were watched together with a group of children in a private secondary school in Istanbul, Turkey, will be analyzed through children’s perspectives, with their expressions.

Opis:
The text outlines fragments of Georgian Romani and Dom children’s reality through the prism of their everyday life and educational practices. Romani (or Roma) and Dom children are usually perceived by the majority of society as well as by national and ethnic minorities as an identical, uniform group. Their images are burdened with stereotypes and they themselves – as begging participants in public space – have become inconvenient for the majority of the society, hence excluded and marginalized. With regard to social representations, Roma and Dom children can be included in the category of “street children”, children “out of place”, “invisible” children, and children remaining “at the crossroads” of tradition and postmodernity. A portrayal of the situation of Roma and Dom minorities in Georgia reveals the reality of children in big city environments as well as the dimensions of their social exclusion and poverty. The text was written within field research: “The forgotten minorities in Georgia” conducted by the author in 2013 and 2014 in Georgia, South Caucasus.

The paper presents the results of the research on consumer experience of 6–7 year old children investigated from the child’s perspective. The authors employed the method of interview with the child about TV advertisements, using stimulus material. The authors state that children recognize TV advertisements shown for them, make a distinction between advertisements and other television programmes, and have a certain knowledge about them. The study disclosed that the child’s approach to advertising depends on adults’ behaviour. It also revealed rudiments of critical assessment of advertising, which are mainly determined by negative experience of the child itself using the advertised item. According to the authors, in order to achieve the child’s critical attitude towards consumption and advertising, the adult who is together with the child must have similar features and values.

Child rights can be considered through the different characteristics of human rights, according to the classification “3P” as Protection, Provision, and Participation. The (potential) distinction between child rights and human rights recalls the former perspective about children’s not seen as human beings. The development of the fields on childhood studies such as “children’s participation” and “agency” are also related to the concept “empowerment,” which indicates the power relations between children and grown-ups. The main purpose of this paper is to debate all those notions through the children’s own experiences by referring to various examples in the frame of Power of children as the Fourth-P right. After discussing how children have the power to “challenge the authority,” I will indicate some examples from Little Review, as a remarkable experience of children’s participation. Lastly, I will try to reveal what today’s children consider the topic of child rights by sharing the findings of a pilot research with children, which I realized in 2019 December. In this study, twelve children who were 11-year-old then, wrote their commentaries about children’s rights and the requirements to have the rights. Thus, in the final part of this paper, the rights will be addressed through children’s perspectives.

The aim of this paper is to present results of critical analyses of Polish children’s songs. Having analysed the lyrics of more than eighty Polish children’s songs, the author couched main categories construing the image of the social world presented in them. The qualitative research revealed propaganda role of the language used in children’s songs: the features of social world (i.e. people, places, relationships, behaviours and values) that are presented in these songs often transmit strongly stereotypical and oversimplified vision of the social reality. In this sense, social education is based on manipulation in which lyrics are the main tool of symbolic violence.

CRS symptoms in children can be mild and uncharacteristic. The disease is multifactorial, and therefore requires a multifaceted, multidisciplinary approach. Treatment of CRS in children is difficult, infections often recur, and treatment methods are often ineffective. In children, surgery is performed infrequently, only when other therapies have failed. The first stage of surgery is adenoidectomy. Functional endoscopic surgery of the paranasal sinuses may be considered if no improvement of the patient after exhausting all possibilities of conservative treatment.

Matthew Lipman’s P4C (Philosophy for Children) method, which in Poland took the names: philosophising with children, philosophical investigations with children, workshops in philosophy, workshop classes in philosophy, workshops on philosophical research, is based on a discussion in which children are the active participants and creators of the classes. In the course of the investigations, one can observe children’s communication behaviour in the dialogue, the level of language and communication skills, the specificity of the child’s thinking and the ability to negotiate or interpret meanings in a peer group. The conducted research on communication shows that for five- and six-year-old children ‘communication’ is primarily about building relationships and reciprocity of linguistic actions.

The situation of children from a migration background in Polish dormitories and boarding schools is analysed herein. It is an emerging issue, practically absent in child studies in Poland. The author refers to research that is a part of MiCreate (Migrant Children and Communities in Transforming Europe) and demonstrates that despite the growing presence of migrant children in dormitories, they are invisible within the education system. The legal gaps in regulations applying to these children as residents of dormitories are explored herein, and integrative measures are analysed to find the possible causes of their ineffectiveness. The research was conducted in a dormitory in the city of Kraków. It included interviews with the institution’s staff, participatory observations and autobiographical narrative interviews with students. This article may inspire further large-scale research into the problems of migrant children being present and living in such dormitories.
