Opis:
The aim of this study is to design and implement a computer system, which will allow the semantic cataloging and data retrieval in the field of cast iron processing. The intention is to let the system architecture allow for consideration of data on various processing techniques based on the information available or searched by a potential user. This is achieved by separating the system code from the knowledge of the processing operations or from the chemical composition of the material being processed. This is made possible by the creation and subsequent use of formal knowledge representation in the form of ontology. So, any use of the system is associated with the use of ontologies, either as an aid for the cataloging of new data, or as an indication of restrictions imposed on the data which draw user attention. The use of formal knowledge representation also allows consideration of semantic meaning, a consequence of which may be, for example, returning all elements in subclasses of the searched process class or material grade.

Opis:
The problem of materials selection in terms of their mechanical properties during the design of new products is a key issue of design. The complexity of this process is mainly due to a multitude of variants in the previously produced materials and the possibility of their further processing improving the properties. In everyday practice, the problem is solved basing on expert or designer knowledge. The paper is the proposition of a solution using computer-aided analysis of material experimental data, which may be acquired from external data sources. In both cases, taking into account the rapid growth of data, additional tools become increasingly important, mainly those which offer support for adding, viewing, and simple comparison of different experiments. In this paper, the use of formal knowledge representation in the form of an ontology is proposed as a bridge between physical repositories of data in the form of files and user queries, which are usually formulated in natural language. The number and the sophisticated internal structure of attributes or parameters that could be the criteria of the search for the user are an important issue in the traditional data search tools. Ontology, as a formal representation of knowledge, enables taking into account the known relationships between concepts in the field of cast iron, materials used and processing techniques. This allows the user to receive support by searching the results of experiments that relate to a specific material or processing treatment. Automatic presentation of the results which relate to similar materials or similar processing treatments is also possible, which should make the conducted analysis of the selection of materials or processing treatments more comprehensive by including a wider range of possible solutions.

Opis:
A device for the fabrication of ingots from cast iron of globular non-dendritic structure of the primary phase was designed and made, using the principle of overflow on the Slope Cooling Plate, known as the SCP method. Trials were made on hypoeutectic grey cast iron and high-chromium cast iron. Even during the first trials the intended effect has been achieved, which means that a fragmentation and globularization of the primary austenite was obtained. A simultaneous effect of the applied SCP technique on the shape of graphite in grey cast iron was observed.
Zaprojektowano i skonstruowano urządzenie do wytwarzania wlewków z żeliwa o globularnej - niedendrytycznej strukturze fazy pierwotnej.

Opis:
The present research focuses on the recycling of steel in combination with copper or aluminum alloys. To use iron scrap with a copper content in the range of 0.5 to 15%, a water atomization process was carried out, producing a rapidly solidified powder with copper of nano-order size dispersed in it. The powder was then hot rolled in the 600°C to 1000°C temperature region, where there is no liquid phase of copper, to produce a solid body. The solid bodies obtained presented a porosity of less than 1% for all the values of temperature and copper concentration, and it was established that the proposed process can be used for a wide range of concentrations of metallic impurities. The tensile strength increased with the copper content for all the temperatures, reaching stability at a copper concentration over 5%. Rapidly solidified powder was annealed and compacted at 600°C, resulting in a reduction of strength compared to non-annealed powder. The microstructure with a finely dispersed copper content seemed to have a considerable effect on the tensile strength of the compacted bodies. In the case of the use of aluminum-containing iron scrap, the results show that addition of aluminum to cast iron increased the resistance to abrasion, the high temperature oxidation characteristics, and the vibration control characteristics. When this cast iron was kept in air at temperatures ranging from 800°C to 1000°C, it was observed that the graphite on the surface was substituted by alumina.

Opis:
In the dumps of metallurgical enterprises of Kazakhstan about 700 million tons of waste products are generated annually, and are polluting the atmosphere and the soil. The concentration of valuable components in waste products are no lower than in natural resources. The reserves of coal in the Ekibastuz basin are estimated to be more than a billion tons, and almost half of this is made up of ash. Every year, up to 30 million tons of ash-cinder waste is generated, which presents a serious threat to nature. Gallium and germanium concentrations in dumps are approximately 200 grams per ton, which is comparable to the content in coal before processing. The current research aims at creating a unit to obtain hydrogen-enriched water gas from Ekibastuz coal, with the production of zinc, gallium and germanium sublimates, copper-containing cast iron, slag wool and cast stone, through the joint processing of zinc-rich slag and ash-cinder wastes from thermal power plants. To achieve this, we used previous methods of extreme energy saving and a new method, the smelt layer with inversion phase. Experimental results from the “reactor inversion phase – rotary kiln” (RIPh) unit, which processed zinc-germanium contained slag, showed the potential to extract germanium from zinc sublimates, to reduce iron to the form of cupreous cast iron, and to obtain combustible gases and smelt suitable for slag-wool production. Calculations performed on the joint processing of Ekibastuz coal and zinc-rich slag using the proposed unit“ reactor of inversion phase–rotary kiln–gas generator” showed it can obtain hydrogen-enriched watergas, along with the extraction of valuable components of primary raw material.
