Opis:
Volume magnetic susceptibility of soils and alluvial sediments from the eastern Pomeranian region near Gdańsk was investigated. Full set of geochemical analyses had been previously performed for all the samples studied. The results are presented in the form of the susceptibility maps of the topsoil horizon, the subsoil at the depth between 40 and 60 cm and the alluvial sediments. Additionally the differential susceptibility map between topsoil horizon and the subsoil at the depth 40-60 cm has been also constructed. A close correlation is observed between positive anomalies of differential susceptibility and urban areas. This is interpreted as surface anthropogenic pollution. Magnetic susceptibility values higher than 1200 x 10-6 SI units, observed in topsoil horizon, might reflect high contents of such elements as Ba, Co, Mg, Mn and Ni.

Opis:
Detailed morphologic studies of detrital scheelite and gold grains from clastic Cenozoic sediments (alluvial and eluvial-colluvial) in two selected areas of the Lower Silesia region allowed to describe their specific features (size, roundness, lustre, and lack or remnants of primary intergrowths with other minerals). It allows estimating length of hydrodynamic transport and distance from the source area. Such features are also an important tool in determining the source of ore mineralization and to establish the parent area for detrital accumulations. Moreover, electron microprobe (EMPA) investigation of detrital gold allowed to recognized internal structure and chemical composition of placer gold grains. The grains commonly revealed zonal structures due to chemical supergene gold mobility recognized nearly in all studied pan-concentrate samples.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to identify and assess the lithological features typical for alluvial sediments of Vistula River from the natural part of its course on 603 km of the river course. For this purpose, the micromorphological analysis was carried out for a sample taken from the surface of a tree covered island. The analysis is laborious, but its great advantage is that it allows to determine the detailed characteristics of undisturbed sediments, supplying other lithological studies. Examined thin section showed fractionation lamination within medium and fine sands, interbedded with coarser grains with some organic admixtures. Detailed analysis allows to detect gradual and sudden changes of discharge energy.

Opis:
A new locomotion (repichnion) trace fossil, Ptychoplasma conica isp. nov., which is composed of chains of hypichnial mounds, is described from Hettangian alluvial sediments in Central Poland. Its occurrence is limited to amalgamated crevasse sand stones. The trace fossil is associated with freshwater bivalves belonging probably to Unionidae. This trace fossil reflects rhythmic (?diurnal) movement of the tracemaker in accordance with the direction of flow in the crevasse channel, where the forward movement took place in the shallow part of a sandstone layer and was interrupted by resting episodes in deeper sediment layer along the mud-sand inter ace. Episodic flood events forced bivalves to produce escape structures, moving from deeper (previous) to upper (later) levels of lateral movements. Some vertical burrows with bivalve body fossils preserved at the bottom suggest a taphonomic burial. P. conica ranges from Late Triassic to Hettangian.
