The presented work is a contribution to discussion on usefulness of application of measurement instrumentation used on sea-going ships for energy measurement and scientific research purposes. Contemporary sea-going ships are equipped as a rule with up-to-date measurement instrumentation usually based on electronic data processing and computer technique. These authors have made many times use of such instruments in their research work. This way it was not necessary to install any special instruments, that significantly reduced measurement cost. In such cases to obtain a sufficient accuracy of measurements constitutes a crucial problem. In this paper was presented an analysis of measurement errors of some operational parameters of ship and its main propulsion system, elaborated within the frame of the KBN research project no. 9 T12D 033 17. Results of the analysis confirm usefulness of the standard measurement instrumentation installed on ships, and its sufficient accuracy.

This paper presents the results of investigation of geometry accuracy using reflectorless techniques. Experimental measurenents were carried out the polygon using new tacheometers and a monitoring application program. The results of experimental measurements were analyzed and presented graphicall in Surfer 8. Contour maps and isometric projections of the surface of imperfection are elements of the present study. It presents the results of investigation of measurements accuracy in geometry according to various geometry conditions.

This paper presents results of two experimental cycles of measurements performed with the use of the terrestrial laser scanner Z+F IMAGER 5006h and the reflectorless tacheometer Leica TPS 1202. These tests aimed at determination of metric properties of surveying instruments, which are used for reflectorless distance measurements and which are often applied to project the geometry of objects. In the course of research works issues influencing the reflection of a laser beam by the measured surface, as well as their influence on the data quality. In order to analyse metric properties of applied instruments, levelling rods were used as test fields of geometrically specified division. It was stated basing on the performed analyses, that the influence of the incidental angle of a laser beam on the accuracy of reflectorless measurements is included within the limits of the error of distance measurements of a given instrument. However, the uniform trend of increasing differences between measured values and the nominal value may be noticed, together with the increase of the incidental angle of the axis of collimation on the measured surface of the test field.

: In this paper, the basis of error and uncertainty assessment for thermographic measurement of temperature is presented. An engineering simplified analytical approach of determining the coverage coefficient is described for different number of thermal images taken into analysis and different contributions of A and B-type of uncertainties. In the form of an example, the entire procedure of uncertainty assessment was used for emissivity. The exemplary calculus are presented for emissivity in LWIR spectral range.

Robotic total stations are a group of surveying instruments that can be used to measure moving prisms. These devices can generate significant errors during kinematic surveys. This is due to the different speeds of the total station’s measurement subsystems, which results in the observations of the point location being performed in different places of the space. Total stations which are several years old may generate errors of up to a few dozen centimeters. More modern designs, with much lower delays of the mechanical and electronic subsystems, theoretically allow to significantly reduce the values of the errors. This study involved the performance of kinematic tests on the modern robotic total station Leica MS50 in order to determine the values of measurement errors, and also to define the possibility of using them for the above-mentioned applications.
W opracowaniu przeprowadzono kinematyczne testy współczesnego tachimetru zrobotyzowanego Leica MS50 pod kątem oceny wartości błędów pomiarowych, a tym samym możliwości użycia do wyżej wymienionych zastosowań. Określanie pozycji ruchomego pryzmatu odbywa się w analogiczny sposób jak celów nieruchomych, poprzez pomiar odległości oraz kąta pionowego i poziomego. Te trzy wielkości, ze względów technicznych, nie mogą być jednak rejestrowane dokładnie w tym samym czasie. Dla pomiarów statycznych nie ma to znaczenia, ponieważ punkt pozostaje w spoczynku. Podczas pomiarów zrobotyzowanych, w trakcie ciągłego ruchu pryzmatu, wzajemne opóźnienia czasowe rejestracji długości i kątów mogą negatywnie wpływać na dokładność, ponieważ na pozycję punktu składają się obserwacje wykonane w różnych miejscach przestrzeni. Aby wyznaczyć wartości tak powstałych błędów, przeprowadzono badania na prostoliniowym torze w laboratorium metrologicznym AGH w Krakowie. Do analiz przyjęto, że oś toru, po którym poruszał się obserwowany pryzmat pokrywa się z osią Y prostokątnego układu współrzędnych. Poprzeczne odchyłki od tego toru w płaszczyźnie poziomej wynikają z opóźnień kątów poziomych względem długości (odchyłki mx), w pionowej, z opóźnień kątów pionowych (odchyłki mz). Tor testowy do pomiarów stanowiła baza komparacyjna dalmierzy tachimetrów elektronicznych, której odchyłki od linii prostej zostały skatalogowane na podstawie pomiarów wykonanych tachimetrem precyzyjnym TC2002. Kształt toru został następnie opisany za pomocą interpolacyjnej funkcji sklejanej, uwzględniającej jego lokalne nierówności, dając model toru. Odchyłki wynikające z analizowanych opóźnień czasowych od tak określonego toru, wyznaczono jako różnicę rzędnych punktu - wyznaczonej i modelowej dla tej samej wartości odciętych. Po torze tym poruszał się ze stałą prędkością wózek napędzany silnikiem krokowym. Badania przeprowadzono dla prędkości 1 m/s (przeciętna prędkość piechura) i 3 m/s.

One of the main problems of machining of moulds is the need for an effective monitoring system of wear of cutting tools. This paper presents the results of coordinate measurements of a cutting tool which were obtained by using the non-contact measuring system based on the ACCURA II coordinate measuring machine equipped with the LineScan laser measuring probe and the Calypso metrology software. Investigations were carried out for several measurement strategies including different measurement resolutions and scanning speeds. The results of the coordinate measurements obtained by using the above-mentioned coordinate measuring system were compared to the reference data measured by means of the InfiniteFocus microscope. The measurement results were analysed by means of two software packages: Focus Inspection and Zeiss Reverse Engineering. The point clouds measured by using the LineScan probe were characterized by the selected deviation statistics equal to 4-6 μm when a good match between measurement points and the reference data was obtained. Moreover, these statistics mainly depend on the measurement resolution. The results of the performed experimental research allowed for drawing conclusions concerning the significance of the effect of the adopted measurement strategies on the results of the non-contact coordinate measurements of the selected cutting tool. The application of the non-contact coordinate measurements to the above-mentioned measurement task may contribute to the development of regeneration methods for cutting tools applied for mould manufacturing.

This work presents the method of improving the accuracy of temperature measurement results obtained by means of long-wave infrared camera equipped with focal plane array (FPA) detector. The typical accuracy of infrared cameras specified by their manufacturers amounts to ±2 K or ±2% of the measured value of temperature. Very often a better accuracy of the measurements is required, e.g. during the measurements of human body temperature. To improve the measurement accuracy an external local (in terms of temperature range) correction of obtained results on the basis of comparison measurement results of black body temperature and next with use of MATLAB package has been proposed.

The measurements of solids of revolution are one of the most common task in industrial practice. Therefore it is not surprising, that new solutions dedicated to improve accuracy and acceleration of measurements of rotational components are emerging. In this group, the new generation of articulating probing systems (with ability of continuous indexation) is worth mentioning. These probing devices combined with standard CMM forms the five-axis coordinate system. Such solution results in measurements acceleration and also improve measurement repeatability. Studies on this type of probing systems proved that their accuracy depends strongly on the angular orientation of probing system used during measurement. Therefore authors developed model that allows simulation of probing system errors for any orientation. This article describes an attempt to use the model to find the configuration of the probing system that would provide the highest accuracy for rotational elements measurements. The simulation results are compared to the real measurements of standard elements performed on five axis measuring system. Described prediction method could have a beneficial effect on improving the accuracy of measurements and, as a result, on reducing production costs by minimizing the risk of erroneous decision on the conformity of products with their geometric specifications.

The paper presents the campaigns of mobile satellite measurements, carried out in 2009-2015 on the railway and tram lines. The accuracy of the measurement method has been analysed on the basis of the results obtained in both horizontal and vertical planes. The track axis deviation from the defined geometric shape has been analysed in the areas clearly defined in terms of geometry, i.e. on the straight sections and sections with constant longitudinal inclination. The values of measurement errors have been estimated on the basis of signals subjected to appropriate processes of filtration. The paper attempts to evaluate the changing possibilities of using the GNSS techniques to determine the shape of the railway track axis from 2009 to 2015. The determined average value of the measurement error now equals a few millimetres. This achievement is very promising for the prospects of mobile satellite measurements in railway engineering.

On the basis of automated flaw detection of rails, the basic dependencies describing localisation and dimensions of object's inner defects traced with ultrasonic pulse-echo method have been given in the paper. The formulas for systematic errors and limiting errors estimating measurement accuracy have been determined. The investigation has been illustrated with results obtained by numerical simulation and with experimental test results acquired from flaw detection vehicle track testing. This paper deals with the problem of the effect of discretization level and certain other parameters characterizing the measurement setup on accuracy of the process of determination of the sound radiation efficiency by means of the Discrete Calculation Method (DCM) described by Hashimoto (2001). The idea behind DCM consists in virtual division of an examined sound radiating structure into rectangular elements each of which is further assumed to contribute to the total radiation effect in the same way as a rigid circular piston having the surface area equal to this of the corresponding virtual element and vibrating in an infinite rigid baffle. The advantage of the method over conventional sound radiation efficiency measurement techniques consists in the fact that instead of acoustic pressure values, source (plate) vibration velocity amplitude values are measured in a selected number of regularly distributed points. In many cases, this allows to determine the sound radiation efficiency with sufficient accuracy, especially for the low frequency regime. The key part of the paper is an analysis of the effect of discretization level (i.e. the choice of the number of points at which vibration amplitude measurements are to be taken with the use of accelerometers) on results obtained with the use of the method and their accuracy. The problem of determining an optimum level of discretization for given excitation frequency range is a very important issue as the labor intensity (time-consuming aspect) of the method is one of its main flaws. As far as the technical aspect of the method is concerned, two different geometrical configurations of the measurement setup were tested.

Opis:
Fast, easy and accurate measurement of geometry of numerically controlled machines has always been challenging. With the use of a laser interferometer, it can be precise but it is complex. On the other side, the use of granite reference blocks is fairly easy yet quite limited for many machine types and sizes. Nowadays the improvements in technology open a new way – the instruments based on the detection of laser beam spot position. Those instruments are accurate and easy to use yet, comparing to the laser interferometers and granite blocks, they are sensitive to parameters of a laser source and to changing environmental conditions. In the paper, we analyse experimentally the influence of the type and parameters of laser source on the accuracy of straightness measurements. The most commonly met in practical applications a free space and fibre based laser sources are studied and compared. The influence of environmental conditions on measurement accuracy is also shown. Finally, the conclusions about optimal methods of improving the accuracy of beam position detection methods are drawn.

Power system state estimation is a process of real-time online modeling of an electric power system. The estimation is performed with the application of a static model of the system and current measurements of electrical quantities that are encumbered with an error. Usually, a model of the estimated system is also encumbered with an uncertainty, especially power line resistances that depend on the temperature of conductors. At present, a considerable development of technologies for dynamic power line rating can be observed. Typically, devices for dynamic line rating are installed directly on the conductors and measure basic electric parameters such as the current and voltage as well as non-electric ones as the surface temperature of conductors, their expansion, stress or the conductor sag angle relative to the plumb line. The objective of this paper is to present a method for power system state estimation that uses temperature measurements of overhead line conductors as supplementary measurements that enhance the model quality and thereby the estimation accuracy. Power system state estimation is presented together with a method of using the temperature measurements of power line conductors for updating the static power system model in the state estimation process. The results obtained with that method have been analyzed based on the estimation calculations performed for an example system - with and without taking into account the conductor temperature measurements. The final part of the article includes conclusions and suggestions for the further research.

Artykuł ma na celu przybliżenie problemu dokładności pomiaru powierzchni użytkowej lokali, zwłaszcza przy pomiarach pomieszczeń o nieregularnych kształtach. Przepisy prawa regulujące te czynności nie określają technologii pomiarowych, które należy wdrożyć aby spełnić założenia dokładnościowe. Autor przeprowadził badania, w których podejmuje próbę określenia czynników wpływających negatywnie na wynik pomiarów oraz proponuje metodologię mającą na celu ich zapobieganie.

The term optical profilometry is used in relation to a group of methods used in a rapid, non-destructive, and non-contact assessment of surface topography. Those methods play a significant role in the area of a modern advanced laboratory and industrial 3D measurements. With the development of profilometric methods, a large progress in the construction of optical profilometric instruments and measuring sensors used in them, including confocal sensors based on the chromatic light aberration phenomenon (CLA) has been observed for several years. The paper shows that the Talysurf CLI 2000 multisensory optical profilometer equipped with a CLA sensor can be used in high-accuracy 3D measurements of the uncirculated and circulated coins. The assessment of such type objects characterized by a high variability of altitude can be extremely helpful in analyzing the actual metrological properties of measuring equipment used in their measurements.
