Opis:
Serious damage to the inner rim of the rear twin wheel in one dump truck was noted during the operation of the fleet performing transport tasks. It was a drive wheel, and its damage occurred while driving with a load exceeding the permissible value. The examination of selected fragments of the damaged rim surface was conducted visually as well as using a digital microscope with a portable head. The measurements of the Vickers hardness and microscopic observations of the material structure of the sample cut along the thickness of the rim disk were carried out. The drive torque loading of the twin wheels of the tipper-truck rear axle, under their mating with different kinds of road roughness and under various vertical loads of the wheels was calculated. An analysis of stress distributions in the rim modelled using the Finite Element Method was also conducted for several possible scenarios of wheel loading. The damage to the rim was caused by simultaneous action of several factors, such as overloading the car, poor condition of the tires, loading the drive wheel by a part of the vehicle weight and the driving torque, and hitting a wheel on a cavity in a dirt road, causing a temporary relief of one of the tires on a twin wheel.

In this article, we present the work carried out in our group on various fields of theoretical biochemistry. Our main fields of research are as follows: i) design of an algorithm for de novo prediction of protein structure from amino-acid sequence using energetic criteria, ii) theoretical modeling of the structure and dynamics of neurohypophyseal-hormone receptors, iii) quantum-mechanical investigation of reactions in organic chemistry and biochemistry, and iv) theoretical conformational analysis of small peptides using experimental information. The performance of different machines, depending on the kind of calculations with special focus on the exploitation of parallelism as well as the applicability and performance of various commercial, free, and our home- made software (AMBER. GAUSSIAN, ECEPPAK, GAMESS, SYBYE, MSI/Biosym) available at TASK and the importance of graphical processing of the data are discussed.

The palaeoecology of fossiliferous shales, belonging to the upper part of the Dobruchna Brachiopod Shale Member (= set XIV) of the Skały Formation (northern Holy Cross Mountains), was studied quantitatively in a succession in the transient (1989) trench A, 5.6 m thick, near the village of Skały. The top-Eifelian strata, recording the carbonate crisis during the global Kačák Bioevent, are well known for having a particularly diverse brachiopod fauna. The four brachiopod assemblages, recognised herein, were mainly controlled by the evolving bottom-sediment properties of the outer carbonate ramp basin. Soft, unstable substrates were inhabited by the poorly-diversified Poloniproductus assemblage, associated with a distinctive, ‘incumbent’ set of largely semi-infaunal, generalist species. The pioneer community, as a result of progressive consolidation of bioclast-enriched sediment, evolved toward a more diverse biota. This consequent stabilisation of the substrate resulted in the progressive growth of crinoid thickets or bryozoan-dominated biostromes and patches, associated with rich, subordinate, sessile and vagile benthos. In this stage, diverse brachiopod assemblages were dominated by the pedunculate, eurytopic, ribbed spiriferide Eleutherokomma or specialized orthides (Aulacella, Costisorthis) in the Dobruchna Mbr, and by the expansive, large, free-lying orthotetide Xystostrophia in the overlying set XV of the Skały Fm The cyclic ecological replacement, with the characters of ecological succession in the final phase, was evidently stimulated by an irregular transition from soupy muds to a mosaic of bioclast-rich and firmer, biogenic sediments, within the cyclic pattern of distal tempestite sedimentation. The three episodes of variously reduced deposition rate, recorded in the more diverse benthos, culminated in the pioneer bryozoan/coral reef growth and abundance of epibionts, alternating with times of destructive storm activity and deposition from suspension clouds in the muddy habitats.

For 30 years, Sudan was ruled by one man – Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir. He went down in history as a dictator. His rule was marked by terror, persecution and suffering. Bashir’s regime led to the displacement of millions, the death of thousands, poverty, a humanitarian and economic crisis in the country, and he was indicted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and genocide. With the fall of Bashir, there was a short-lived hope for a better future. But it was an illusory hope. The country’s political scene has been taken over by the military, which is still in power despite announcements that it would hand over power to civilians. The purpose of this article is to analyze the political and social situation that led to the fall of the Bashir regime and the current political situation under the military junta. The analysis is based solely on information gathered from open sources of intelligence (OSINT).

Opis:
Polymeric nanoparticles based on poly-N-isopropylacrylamide (pNiPAM NPs) and their bio-medical applications have been widely investigated in recent years. These tunable nanoparticles are considered to be great candidates for drug delivery systems, biosensors and bioanalytical devices. Thus, the biocompatibility and toxicity of these nanoparticles is clearly a crucial issue. In this work, the cytotoxicity of thermo-responsive pNiPAM nanoparticles was studied, followed by a detailed analysis of the NPs morphology in growing cell cultures and their 3D structure. Cytotoxic examination was conducted for two cell cultures - HeLa (cervical cancer cell line) and HeK293 (human embryonic kidney cell line), employing MTT (3-4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay and viability tests. We used Cryo-SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and fluorescence microscopy (IN Cell Analyzer) in order to investigate the morphological structure of the polymer network. We show that pNiPAM nanoparticles do not exhibit any cytotoxicity effects on the investigated cell lines. Additionally, we report that the pNiPAM nanoparticle based scaffold promotes cell growth.

The methodology of conducting this type of test is discussed, and a configured test stand is presented to measure the resistance and impedance of the wheelsets. The uncertainty budget for this type of testing is discussed. Exemplary measurement results are presented and analyzed.

Opis:
Replacing components on an already assembled inertia shaft of a car transmission system can be tedious and detrimental to some components, so using a puller instead of a tool like a hammer can help you get the job done safely and faster. The aim of the study was to evaluate the performance of the designed fixed-speed puller, allowing easier access to the shaft. Based on the geometry of the existing puller, its model was made using the finite element method, and the resulting stress distribution during dynamic loading was investigated. Based on the determined stresses, the components of the puller have been redesigned so that they can safely transmit the stresses that arise while providing sufficient pressure to disconnect the selected elements of the inertia shaft.
Wymiana elementów na już zmontowanym wale bezwładności samochodowego układu przeniesienia napędu może być żmudna i szkodliwa dla niektórych elementów, dlatego użycie ściągacza zamiast narzędzia takiego, jak młotek może pomóc w bezpiecznym i szybszym wykonaniu pracy. Celem badań była ocena działania zaprojektowanego ściągacza o stałej prędkości, umożliwiającego łatwiejszy dostęp do wału. Na podstawie geometrii istniejącego ściągacza wykonano jego model metodą elementów skończonych i zbadano wynikowy rozkład naprężeń podczas obciążenia dynamicznego. W oparciu o wyznaczone naprężenia elementy ściągacza zostały zaprojektowane tak, aby mogły bezpiecznie przenosić powstające naprężenia przy jednoczesnym zapewnieniu docisku wystarczającego do rozłączenia wybranych elementów wałka bezwładnościowego.

Opis:
Transport of fresh or powdered chicken eggs uses conveyors with elements made of steel or plastics, and surfaces often coated by Teflon. Various forms of eggs contact with said surfaces and are subject to friction processes between them. The frictional resistances cause a load on the devices driving the conveyors and a local and temporary increase in temperature in the contact zones and allow the abrasive wear of both the surfaces of the conveyors, packages and the eggshells themselves. This study aimed to determine such the coefficient of friction and wear intensity at various contacts. The friction and wear tests were conducted on two tribotesters and the results are shown in the article.
Transport świeżych lub sproszkowanych jaj kurzych wykorzystuje przenośniki z elementami wykonanymi ze stali lub tworzyw sztucznych, a powierzchnie często pokryte teflonem. Różne formy jaj stykają się ze wspomnianymi powierzchniami i podlegają procesom tarcia między nimi. Opory tarcia powodują obciążenie urządzeń napędzających przenośniki oraz lokalny i tymczasowy wzrost temperatury w strefach styku i pozwala na zużycie ścierne powierzchni przenośników, pakietów i samych skorupek jaj. Badanie to miało na celu określenie takiego współczynnika tarcia i intensywności zużycia w różnych stykach. Testy tarcia i zużycia przeprowadzono na dwóch tribotesterach, a wyniki pokazano w artykule.

In recent years, numerous Polish cities and municipalities have become involved in the creation of bike-sharing systems. Although the contribution of bike-sharing to creating sustainable transport caused some controversy in the literature, the positive role of cycling in promoting low-emission mobility and a healthy lifestyle is widely acknowledged. As part of the European Union’s sustainable transport agenda, some Polish local governments have obtained funding from structural funds for the implementation of bicycle-sharing schemes. This article presents an overview of selected systems, as well as a preliminary analysis of their users’ activity based on data obtained through a Web API. Although the scope of the data was limited in time due to the shutdown of the systems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic shortly after their spring reactivation, some patterns could be observed. In particular, users activity was more evenly distributed over time in larger cities (over 300 thousand of residents), whereas in smaller cities alternating periods of high and low activity was observed.

Bike-sharing systems, also known as public bicycles, are among the most dynamically developing mobility solutions in contemporary cities. In the past decade, numerous Polish cities hoping to increase the modal share of cycling have also adopted bike-sharing. Such systems continuously register user movements through installed sensors. The resulting database allows a highly detailed representation of this segment of urban mobility. This article illustrates how a database accessed via a Web API (Web Application Programming Interface) could be used to investigate the spatial distribution of trips, using the case study of Poznań, the fifth-largest city in Poland. Using geographical information systems, we identify the hot spots of bike-sharing as well as areas with low usage. The research procedure outlined in the paper provides knowledge that allows better responding to users’ needs.
