Opis:
In theology, a sin is described as mysterium iniquitatis and absolution from it— mysterium salutis or pietatis. In the New Testament a sin is always connected with absolution, “forgiveness,” and sinners are of great concern for Jesus. Nevertheless, modern culture becomes more and more detached from Christian tradition and thus deprives a human being of the spiritual values and makes him become further impoverished. This article provides a synthetic discussion of the reality of a sin—“mystery of illicitness” and also reflects on repentance and reconciliation with God and with one’s own neighbour. The reflections presented in this article are based on the teachings of the contemporary Church and on the Papal teachings especially.

The paper presents the results of research on the evaluation of Non-Financial Statements (Reports), drafted pursuant to the SIN standard (the Polish Non-Financial Information Standard) by a hypothetical investor. The research question was defined of whether the Non-Financial Statements (Reports), which — according to the declarations of the listed companies — are drafted in concordance with the SIN standard, fulfil the requirements set forth by the standard, and thus provide useful non-financial information for the interested parties. The research covered all reports fulfilling the indicated criterion, i.e. 20 listed companies. In the majority of cases, the research results indicate that there are considerable deviations from the SIN standard guidelines. There were five heterogeneity levels in the approach to the SIN standard. In order to carry out the goal, content analysis, descriptive and comparative analysis, as well as the induction method were employed.
Wyodrębniono 5 poziomów heterogeniczności podejścia do SIN. W artykule wykorzystano metodę analizy treści, analizę opisową i porównawczą oraz metodę indukcji.

Opis:
This article discusses the problem of responsibility in Ezekiel 18:21-28. In the first part of the article, the author presents the principle of collective responsibility in ancient Israel. The second part shows the teaching of the prophet Ezekiel, who contrasts the former universally applicable principle of collective responsibility with his completely novel concept of individual responsibility. According to this new principle, everyone is personally responsible for his own behavior. A sinner can save his life by converting and entering on the path of a real spiritual life. For centuries the Catholic Church has interpreted Ezekiel’s encouragement to convert as an indirect invitation for the modern listener to be open to Christ.

The Catholic Church is very diverse. This is its beauty and value. However, this can also be a cause of trouble. Where there are differences, conflicts may also arise. Some are open and want dialogue and conversation with everyone, about everything and in every possible way. They are always on the border. They try to understand the world and reach out to it and read the teaching of the Church in a modern way. They advocate reform and radical change. Others are conservative – they care more about preserving the most valuable things in the Church along the way. They care about tradition. They trust the wisdom of time. They do not want to make sudden changes. They look at the past with respect and draw wisdom and inspiration from it, in order to act today. There are different sensitivities, different spiritualities, and even different needs. Can conflicts be avoided? It is certainly not easy and also requires mutual tolerance.

Opis:
The article focuses on the understanding of sin in John 5:14, as well as the relationship between sin and sickness presented in this verse. It provides a thorough status quaestionis on both of these issues. After examining various hypotheses regarding the meaning of sin in John 5:14, the Johannine notion of sin as unbelief is expounded as the most convincing. This sin encompasses the past, present, and future life of the healed man. Thus, contrary to the exegetical opinio communis, the cause-and-effect relationship between sin and sickness does not apply to John 5:14. In light of this explanation, the messages of John 5:14 and 9:2–3 do not contradict each other. Jesus’ words in 5:14, intentionally pronounced in the temple, should be understood as an invitation to follow him in faith.

Opis:
The present paper aims at analyzing the conceptual metaphors for sin identified in the English version of the Bible. The experience of moral evil belongs to basic human experiences and in theological interpretation, its existence is the reason for the salvation brought to people by Christ. However, from the semantic point of view, the concept of sin itself is highly abstract and difficult to defi ne. In order to conceptualize that notion, people frequently employ conceptual metaphors which enable them to refer to the abstract through the use of the concrete. This study is based on the English translation of Scripture published as the New Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition (2007[1989]). That version of Scripture is a revised edition of the famous King James Bible (1611) and it is widely used among Christians representing various denominations. The identifi ed sin metaphors are based on either sensorimotor or cultural experience. There are conceptualizations of sin that are motivated by preconceptual image schemas, ontological metaphors, and metaphors that combine cultural scripts and image schemas.

Although the reality of evil and moral weakness belongs to the most commonhuman experience, only rational analysis does not allow for the rightful understandingof these aspects of the human condition. In view of the entire Christiantradition, Protestantism appears as an important and serious tradition, howeverevaluated sometimes as unilateral or extremely pessimistic. "e Reformationalassumptions and multi-century subsequent history of theological thought andsacramental-pastoral practice, particularly in Lutheran, Calvinist and Anglicantradition, demand careful studies and analyses, so that this aspect of humanfate and supernatural destiny should be comprehensively understood.

There is an apparent contradiction between the catholic doctrine of death as a result of the Original Sin and the fact that the biological death is a common and somewhat necessary phenomenon in the world of nature. Analysis of biblical data and interpretation of the Magisterium of the Church’s dogmatic teaching allows us to propose a solution to the problem by stating that the primary consequence of sin is spiritual death, that is, breaking communion with God, and bodily death is only a secondary, consequence result of sin, which means that the experience of bodily death has changed for man after the fall. This proposal is corroborated by opinions of some recognized contemporary theologians.

$e wordings presented by us do not belong to the most popular either in theNew Testament or in the afore-mentioned so-called authentic epistles of St. Paulthe Apostle. It does not mean, however, that they do not have those meanings.God’s word, also by their assistance, tells us about our human life. At this currentstage, we did not manage to possess this gi~ in full, which eternally stays withGod, or eternal salvation. Simultaneously, we are aware, however, that togetherwith the coming of Christ, our situation radically changed for the better. Weare not slaves anymore of such powers as sin or death. It is true that our liberationis neither complete nor final yet. We cannot go to the other extreme, however, and not to admit that we do not belong to them, that Life stays behindus, that He is already an absolute Lord now and Lord of us, ourselves and of allthis, which was created (cf. e.g. Philippians %:&2). In other words, following theApostle of nations, we could describe our current situation in the followingway. As Christians we are already in Christ (Greek: en Christô). In temporality, however, we are the successors of Adam: just as if our fates became “closed”,“programmed” in Adam. We remain beings limited by Death. We still andcontinually experience a frightening burden of its reign. Repeating the wordsof St. Paul we may reflect this aspect of our existence in temporality, reachingfor the expression “in death” as we still belong in its zone. We also “live” in itin some way. However, this is not everything. Our temporal life also has otheraspects. $us, to reflect on them, the Apostle will refer to the mystery of law /Law and to the mystery of what is material, in particular in man himself, to the mystery of thebody (Greek: sôma and sarx). As we noticed, also the last threemay be something negative, captivating a man, not least serving for his good.A man, waiting for his meeting with Christ, or already living with this meeting,is also a living being, also in a pejorative sense, in body (en sômati and en sarki). We can state the same about another of God’s gi~s, about law / Law, as well asabout order, which the Apostle reflects on by the expression “in law” / “in Law”.As we noticed, such a defined image is not unanimously negative. A manliving in a described situation has not lost his chance yet. He needs salvation andmay obtain it. When it occurs, his situation changes. $e transition is radical, although usually a given person gradually experiences it. It is o~en dividedinto their entire life. Most frequently the old order does not disappear at once.It becomes partially abolished, annihilated. It partially becomes transformed, cured. It partially influences us as well. Our temporality is such. And just as such,it constitutes time and place of salvific work of God and an integral part of theDivine economy. And it frequently outgrows our potential of understanding, reminding us at the same time about the place and role of faith, hope and love. One of the aspects of the Pauline vision of salvific work could be presentedin a great outline in this way. It is noticeable in a specific, interesting way in thewordings we come across in e.g. the so-called authentic epistles of St. Paul theApostle. $is, expressed by them, being God’s Word, refers not only to peopleliving in the Apostle’s time. It concerns people of all times. It concerns us also.

The Catholic doctrine of the fall of man and the original sin seems to pose serious difficulties when confronted with the results of empirical sciences concerning the antropogenesis. To answer those issues, the author of this work undertakes an attempt at their contemporary interpretation from the perspective of fundamental theology, basing on the findings of his previous publication, in which he covered the problem of anthropogenesis in the light of Christian faith and empirical discoveries. (M. Witała, A Proposition of Integral Protological Narrative: the Theological Criteria of Humanity and Anthropogenesis according to Empirical Sciences, “Poznańskie Studia Teologiczne” 41 (2022) 1, pp. 71–93). The interpretation of the fall of man and original sin proposed in this work is based on the analysis of biblical data and the review of the doctrinal statements of the Magisterium of the Church during the ages and leads to an integral protological narrative taking into account the research of empirical sciences on anthropogenesis, according to the concept of integration of theology and science.
Katolickie nauczanie o upadku pierwszych ludzi i grzechu pierworodnym wydaje się sprawiać poważne trudności w konfrontacji z wynikami badań nauk empirycznych o człowieku. Aby na nie odpowiedzieć, autor niniejszego artykułu podjął próbę ustalenia współczesnej interpretacji tej problematyki w perspektywie teologicznofundamentalnej, wykorzystując ustalenia poprzedniej publikacji poświęconej zagadnieniu antropogenezy w świetle wiary chrześcijańskiej i odkryć nauk empirycznych (M. Witała, A Proposition of Integral Protological Narrative: the Theological Criteria of Humanity and Anthropogenesis according to Empirical Sciences, „Poznańskie Studia Teologiczne” 41 (2022) 1, s. 71–93). Interpretacja ta została oparta na analizie danych biblijnych i przeglądzie wypowiedzi doktrynalnych Kościoła, na podstawie których sporządzono narrację protologiczną uwzględniającą wyniki badań nauk empirycznych dotyczące początków ludzkości w ramach modelu integracji teologiczno-empirycznej.

The first part of this research scrutinizes previous scholarly opinions concerning the belonging of the motif of instruction to the original narrative. While the conclusions of especially Nickelsburg and Hanson are negative, the mainly thematic criterion used by them in the separation of the literary strata indicates that they could not see any thematic connection between the Watchers and the motif of knowledge transmission. The second part of the research shows the interrelationship between the mythological origins of scribal and medical knowledge transmission in cuneiform sources and the response of Jewish priests in Babylonia. The latter group rejected Babylonian cuneiform arts and opted for Aramaic type of knowledge with the creation of a different ideal scribe from before the flood (Enoch), different transcendent channel of knowledge transmission (angels faithful to God), and different channel of knowledge transmission from father to son in patriarchal and Levitical genealogies. The third part of the research explores the metaphorical meaning of especially the “great sin” of “fornication” committed by the Watchers. The sin of fornication with women and successive defilement of the Watchers have to be interpreted in relation to the metaphorical, not literal, meaning of these terms found in the biblical account where they often figuratively express apostasy from the God of Israel and idolatrous relationship with other gods.

Joshua Pederson’s Sin Sick: Moral Injury in War and Literature proposes the use of moral injury – a psychological concept describing the affliction of those who break their moral code when committing despicable acts – as a framework through which war narratives of the American War on Terror can be productively read without resorting to the controversial idea of perpetrator trauma, which seems to excuse veterans as victims of the war. Pederson provides the reader with a clinical overview of the condition as well as a first literary theory of moral injury as a manifestation of various forms of excess through a genealogical reading that includes analyses of Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment and Camus’ The Fall. Sin Sick appears as a step in the right direction as it addresses in a timely manner a blind spot in trauma theory using a concept that more accurately describes a specific type of suffering. In the author’s mind the very term “moral injury” entails an acknowledgement of the soldiers’ wrongdoing, and this allows him to defend contemporary war writers from critics accusing them of using a narrow point of view that focuses on the pain of the American protagonists and hides the suffering of their victims. Ultimately, the study introduces readers to a fresh way to understand the psychological pain of perpetrators and seeks to inaugurate a new branch of studies that can run in parallel with trauma theory.
