Opis:
The research was carried out in September and October 2013. Their main aim was to obtain the information on the abundance and distribution of the common mistletoe in Praszka, assess the health status of the trees infested with this semi-parasite, and to determine its impact on the health of the hosts. All the trees with mistletoe were examined (in terms of the species, the number of semiparasite shrubs, the host health). The distribution and density hosts were presented on a prepared network with an area of 1 ha and Pearson’s correlation factor was used to determine the relationship between the infestation degree of a host and its state of health. Only the typical subspecies of mistletoe – Viscum album L. subsp. album, which occupied 11 species of trees were found in the city of Praszka. These were mainly: black poplar Populus nigra L., small-leaved lime Tilia cordata L. and black locust Robinia pseudoacacia L. (they are also the most common or the frequent hosts in the country). The distribution of mistletoe in the city is uneven, and this is mainly due to the degree of urbanization, sunshine, noise, occurrence of the most common hosts as well as the presence of birds. It turned out that the largest groups of hosts were located along the roads in low building areas, on the peripheries of the city as well as in parks and cemeteries. The health condition of trees inhabited by mistletoe was generally good. There was a correlation between the number of mistletoe shrubs on the host and its health status (the greater the number of shrubs, the worse the health status of the host).

Dried humic acid and its aqueous solution in 0.1 M Na2CO3 were gamma-irradiated with 1 90 kGy from 60Co. Thereafter, a secondary ultraweak radiation in the spectral range of gamma = 340 650 nm from aqueous solutions was recorded as long-lived chemiluminescence (CL). Only for absorbed doses lower than 10 kGy low intensity signals of the CL decay were measurable. For absorbed doses higher than 40 kGy residual flat and weak signals are observed. Humic acid irradiated in the dry form did not reveal statistically significant CL. Absorption spectra (gamma = 240 800 nm) of irradiated solutions indicated the occurrence of a dominant degradation process of the humic acid macromolecular components. The effect of H2O2 and CL enhancers (luminol and lucigenin) on the intensity and kinetics of CL proved the participation of reactive oxygen species and the free radical mechanism in the CL and degradation processes. The dose-effect relationship (i.e. gamma-radiation absorbed dose vs. intensity of gamma-radiation-induced CL) showes a non-linear shape, especially in the range of 1-10 kGy, which suggests complex radical mechanisms. A possible ecological significance of the observed phenomena is briefly discussed.

Opis:
30÷60% seeds located in a soil bank can be eliminated through farming within one vegetative period. Fallowing and mineral fertilisation applied prior to planting may accelerate this process causing considerable seed reduction in an arable soil layer. In order to identify the above-mentioned dependences, in pot experiments conducted in the years 2002-2004 arrangement structure, size and diversity of soil seed bank in soil samples from fields in Przylek were distinguished and compared. On examined samples potatoes and wheat were cultivated in a crop rotation system and wheat in monoculture using various management systems. As a result of the conducted experiments on soil from the field of an extensive farming system there germinated 1382 weed pieces/m2, and on samples with an intensive farming germinated 3129 weed pieces/m2. In an extensive farming system there registered 9 weed species. Dominant species were Chenopodium album, Apera spica venti, and Anthemide spp. and on samples from fields of an intensive farming system 12 weed species, of which in the greatest intensification appeared Chenopodium album, Galinsoga parviflora, Anthemide spp. and Apera spica venti. The fallowing process lasting for 72 days used in the experiment increased the number of plant germinations depending on examined samples by 15.5 to 24.4%. The attained results indicated that this method of plant farming substantially influences the number and diversity of seeds of weed species existing in an arable soil layer.
W okresie jednego sezonu wegetacyjnego poprzez uprawę można wyeliminować 30÷60% nasion znajdujących się w glebowym banku. Ugorowanie i nawożenie mineralne stosowane przedsiewnie mogą przyspieszać ten proces, przyczyniając się do znacznej redukcji nasion w ornej warstwie gleby. W celu rozpoznania wymienionych zależności w doświadczeniach wazonowych prowadzonych w latach 2002-2004 rozpoznano i porównano strukturę rozmieszczenia, ilość oraz różnorodność glebowego banku nasion w próbkach glebowych pobranych z pól w Przyłęku. Na badanych obiektach uprawiano w zmianowaniu ziemniaki i pszenicę oraz pszenicę w monokulturze, stosując różne systemy gospodarowania. W wyniku przeprowadzonych doświadczeń na glebie pobranej z pola o uprawie ekstensywnej wzeszło 1382 szt. chwastów/m2, a w próbkach z intensywnym sposobem gospodarowania 3129 szt. chwastów/m2. W uprawie ekstensywnej zrejestrowano 9 gatunków chwastów, wśród których dominowały Chenopodium album, Apera spica venti, i Anthemide spp., a w próbkach pobranych z pola o intensywnym sposobie gospodarowania 12 gatunków chwastów, z których w największym nasileniu wystąpiły Chenopodium album, Galinsoga parviflora, Anthemide spp. i Apera spica venti.

Opis:
The degree of soil pollution with vital seeds of weeds depends on many factors, such as amount and species biodiversity of the habitat of weeds inhabiting in the crop, type of crop, method of cultivation as well as the level of nutrients supply in soil and its physicochemical properties. Various species of weeds differ from each other in possibilities to produce seeds. Differences between actual and potential seed production are significant, which is determined by environmental conditions in which plant vegetation takes place. At the population level weeds have the ability to produce such quantities of seeds, which largely compensate reduction in their appearance. This ability makes it significantly difficult to reduce the degree of their presence in the crop. In order to identify the impact of the above technology of cultivation on the amount and vertical distribution of Galinsoga parviflora Cav seeds in arable layer, pot experiments were carried out, in which soil samples taken twice from winter wheat fields were subjected to detailed analysis. The results indicate that the technology of plant cultivation significantly affects the number of seeds of weed species and their distribution in the arable layer of soil.

Opis:
The depletion of the conventional energy sources, as well as the degradation and pollution of the environment by the exploitation of fossil fuels caused the development of renewable energy sources (RES), including biomass. In Poland, biomass is the most popular renewable energy source, which is closely related to the obligations associated with the membership in the EU. Biomass is the oldest renewable energy source, and its potential, diversity and polymorphism place it over other sources. Besides, the improvement in its parameters, including an increase in its calorific value, resulted in increasing use of biomass as energy source. In the electric power industry biomass is applied in the process of co-combustion with coal. This process may contribute, inter alia, to the reduction in the emissions of carbon, nitrogen and sulfur oxides. The article presents the characteristics of the biomass burned in power boilers of one of the largest Polish power plants, located in Opole Province (Southern Poland). Besides, the impact of biomass on the installation of co-combustion, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the co-combustion process not only in technological, but also environmental, economic and social aspects were described.

Opis:
Acid rain formed first of all from sulphur oxide emitted by natural and anthropogenic sources, may change the biological equilibrium and the metal stoppage in the soil. The model experiments were performed to determine the influence of acid rain on zinc bond with humic acid (HA). The samples were prepared in glass columns with quartz sand and overlaid HA or HA+65Zn radioisotope that simulates natural conditions. Then, solutions of H2SO4 were introduced into the sand HA layer. Zinc was washed with diluted (10 4 10 3 M) sulphuric acid as the simulation of acid rain. The recovery of injected radiotracer ions in eluates was found to depend on pH of simulated acid rain. The results help to evaluate the migration behaviour of zinc in the presence of HA and H2SO4. The model studies illustrate the considerable influence of sulphuric acid on chemical degradation of HA.

The water conductivity of arctic zone soils derived in different micro-relief forms was determined. The greatest water conductivity at the 0-5 cm depth for the higher values of water potentials (> -7 kJ m-3) was shown by tundra polygons (Brunic-Turbic Cryosol, Arenic) – 904-0.09 cm day-1, whereas the lowest were exhibited by Turbic Cryosols – 95-0.05 cm day-1. Between -16 and -100 kJ m-3, the water conductivity for tundra polygons rapidly decreased to 0.0001 cm day-1, whereas their decrease for the other forms was much lower and in consequence the values were 0.007, 0.04, and 0.01 cm day-1 for the mud boils (Turbic Cryosol (Siltic, Skeletic)), cell forms (Turbic Cryosol (Siltic, Skeletic)), and sorted circles (Turbic Cryosol (Skeletic)), respectively. In the 10-15 cm layer, the shape of water conducti-vity curves for the higher values of water potentials is nearly the same as for the upper layer. Similarly, the water conductivity is the highest – 0.2 cm day-1 for tundra polygons. For the lower water potentials, the differences in water conductivity increase to the decrease of soil water potential. At the lowest potential the water conductivity is the highest for sorted circles – 0.02 cm day-1 and the lowest in tundra polygons – 0.00002 cm day-1.

Opis:
The database of Polish arable mineral soils is presented. The database includes a lot of information about the basic properties of soils and their dynamic characteristics. It was elaborated for about 1 000 representative profiles of soils in Poland The database concerns: particle size distribution, organic carbon content, acidity-pH, specific surface area, hydrophobicity – solidliquid contact angle, static and dynamic hydrophysical properties, oxidation-reduction properties and selected biological (microbiological) properties of soils. Knowledge about soil characteristics is indispensable for description, interpretation and prediction of the course of physical, chemical and biological processes, and modelling these processes requires representative data. The utility of simulation and prediction models describing phenomena which take place in the soil-plant-atmosphere system greatly depends on the precision of data concerning characteristics of soil. On the basis of this database, maps of chosen soil properties are constructed. The aim of maps is to provide specialists in agriculture, ecology, and environment protection with an opportunity to gain knowledge of soil properties and their spatial and seasonal variability.
