Opis:
The article aims to portray changes in provision and reception of contemporary counselling, which finds itself under a strong impact of popular culture. The pop culture is described as a phenomenon intimately related and saturating social life, scientific research and daily life of modern people. In postmodern mediatized reality, deeply immersed in popular culture, the guidance is sought by a Homo consultans-a reflexive individual that experiences uncertainty/helplessness and establishes an interpersonal relationship (dialogue) with another human being-a counsellor-with a view to solving his/her problems. Seeking guidance and attempting to use the counsellor’s help to understand oneself, others and the world, the counselee actually strives after sustainable personal development and decent life. Homo consultans-is simultaneously the active seeker of a guidance and the passive object of the attack of guidance practices.

Stanisław Przybyszewski
Opis:
Stanisław Przybyszewski’s oeuvre is not “pop”. This paper scrutinizes a catalogue of determinants that encouraged the writer’s initial renown and then led to his ultimate decline in popularity. Was Przybyszewski’s “fall from grace” justifiable? In my analysis, I refer to three different approaches to the concept of “pop”. In the first approach, “pop” is understood as a contrast between high and low culture. In the second, it is interpreted in relation to the institutions that indirectly affirm and popularize one’s literary input. The third one is associated with source literary text editing. Using these three categories is not supposed to present the author himself, but rather a certain phenomenon in European literary culture. Przybyszewski, the so-called “meteor of the Young Poland period”, is a particularly poignant example of how initial fascination with an avant-garde artist could change into oblivion and absence in reading culture. The comments formulated in this article are directed primarily to the reader who does not know the history of Polish literature, and the method of reaching the reader is to focus on a selected example showing a repeatable sequence in careers of many other authors of the period.

This contribution focuses on analysing political communication in Italy during the 2022 national elections, with particular attention to the TikTok platform, where prominent Italian political leaders have appeared. To this end, we used a combination of social analysis tools, including Fanpage Karma and Blogmeter Live Insight. The collected data were scrutinized using a multidisciplinary approach that combines Political Communication Theory and Media Analysis. The aim is to explore the role of pop culture in political communication and understand how this phenomenon influences political participation and users’ choices. Furthermore, the possible consequences of the growing popularity of pop political communication on political representation are examined, as well as whether this is a momentary or long-lasting phenomenon.

By discovering the uniqueness of each literary genre, people can better mentally comprehend and appreciate what they read. The overall goal of this paper is to uncover and stress some characteristic features of creating an icon of popular culture in the virtual world of the Internet biography of Oprah Winfrey. Bearing in mind the functional aspects of language we should briefly outline the linguistic, sociological and cultural aspects implied though not plainly expressed in the online biographies of the American icon mentioned. The available sources used in this presentation are web pages found with the use of various search engines. The analysis of the collected data is based on 15 online biographies taken from websites having record popularity ratings. Watching how a biography of Oprah Winfrey is enjoying its popularity through hundreds of celebrity portals can tell us a great deal not only about how powerful the functional aspects of the language are but about how much the world’s culture is changing. Needless to say, the study also covers how the linguistic units are combined to launch the icon and create her online reality.

Opis:
The present analysis is focused on the issue of interactions of individuals with mathematics in films and strives to show why the question of the accuracy of mathematical formulas is not crucial to films and, therefore, what their main functions in the creation of the diegetic and the outer world are. In order to achieve the set aim, I ground my reflection in the idea suggested in Math Goes to the Movies, i.e. that mathematics is not presented in films only as an abstract theory, but it also carries a creative potential. Good Will Hunting (1997), A Beautiful Mind (2001) and Pi (1998) are the films in which mathematics is a substantial driving force, influencing both the gradual development and consolidation of characters. In this work, the films serve as the research material.

In my article, I focus on the relationship between a child and adult in socio-cultural perspective in order to demonstrate how the representations of childhood are used by Polish authors of children’s literature in critical descriptions of war and other forms of violence. At first, I relate to the crucial moment in the European history in which there appeared a discourse of senility and youthfulness. Next, I present the main consequences of the “production” and “distribution” of images of childhood in pop culture. In the last part of my discussion, I analyse novels by Joanna Rudniańska, Jacek Dukaj, Grzegorz Gortat and Dorota Combrzyńska-Nogala, who, in their works about the Holocaust, the martial law in Poland and the war in Syria create the world in which young characters possess certain features belonging to the adult. My analyses demonstrate the sources of betrayal of childhood which appears in these novels like a sublime sign reflecting primarily adults’ fantasies about the child. As I show, this sign contains very few real issues referring to contemporary childhood.

Opis:
The assumption of the paper is a liquidity between sacrum and profanum.. The work done on the body makes bodily practices and rituals the art of body. The body is an altar of our identity, manifestation of Self. The great visibility of this tendency is illustrated in the frame of popular culture, especially in the stream called the culture of transparency. The examples of body modifications’ practices, referred to the Western culture, are recognized as the contemporary new-primitivism (neo-primitive perspective) – the Modern Primitive Movement. The wide cult of the body is commonly known and practiced and its official name is corporeism. There are a various platforms of trainings to relax and strengthen the body, “the work on our body” in lighter form, express body. Probably the most opposite trends and cultural phenomenon can verify our level of tolerance and ability to understand significantly other people. The case of body modification can be the first one. The reason of it can be that the body can be perceived as the most visible open-text of ourselves. A variety of its manifestations can really provoke a huge cosmopolitan debate towards a more aesthetically-directed approach on those forms of practices which are not met too often in one specific culture and which argue with its standard of normality.

There is no doubt that Shakespeare is “the flagship commodity” in the globalized cultural market. The fact that his works are being studied, performed, and admired, or, adapted and parodied almost all over the world, would surely testify that his works are great sources to be capitalized on (both culturally and materially) in the consumerist society in which we live. However, it could be also argued that the brand logo, “Shakespeare,” no longer holds such a privileged status, that it is merely one of numerous cultural artifacts that can be used and recycled, and that one of the few convenient things about “Shakespeare” is that it can be reproduced, copied, and parodied without the need for any royalty payments being made? Some popular, global, tacky “shakespeares” seek to destabilize the presupposed notion that “Shakespeare” is the dominant, central, hegemonic icon by juxtaposing “Shakespeare” with other artifacts, which are presumed to be of minimal capitalist and cultural value. This article attempts to illustrate how (in)significant or (un)influential Shakespeare, as a residual socio-cultural icon, can be. Tackyfying “Shakespeares” can, however, also be a means to proliferate the Bard. Japanese pop “Shakespeares,” proudly and assertively tacky, offer tributes to the great Bard.

The article explores the influence of Orwell’s fiction on the creative output of Ray Davies, one of Britain’s finest songwriters and the erstwhile frontman of The Kinks, a ‘British Invasion’ group. The Davies oeuvre can be placed alongside Orwell’s work due to its entertainment value, sharpness of ob- servation and complex, conflicted socio-political sympathies. By balancing utopian visions with dystopian premonitions and by offering regular critiques of the culture they hold dear, Orwell and Davies represent the same tradition of cautious patriotism. They also share a similar aesthetic, communicating their insights through humour, self-mockery and acerbic wit.

The aim of the text is to discuss the educational potential of popular culture. The firstpart focuses on theoretical opinions on the relationships of culture and education. Pedagogical thinking about culture is dominated by its humanistic understanding, in which a special sense of culture has been understood as one of the top of human achievement. In traditional pedagogical reflection, there is noticeable concentration on culture as “valuable for educational interactions”. In such a perspective, the space of popular culture is ignored. Perceived as a bad Mr. Hyde of cultural space, it is treated as an area of threats to the development of children and youth. But culture is not only a canon of the achievements of past generations. In the anthropological sense, these are simply the ways of living a life in a society. Popular culture is the space where various aspects are commented on. Popular art plays a special role here. The second part discusses the pop cultural texts that illustrate the characteristic elements of utopia: burial of the “old world”, establishing a “perfect” order, protection against external destruction and against destruction from inside. Formed at different times and based on different means of expression, they address the dilemmas associated with thinking about a “better world”. They present the mechanisms and consequences of building a new society “with their own language”.

Reflecting on the many challenges facing Christianity as a religion, and particularly Christian philosophy as a way of thinking in modern, strange and unfamiliar times, one encounters time and again the grim realization that many of such challenges are simplyprovided by the current culture, the cultural sphere. Without idealizing Europe’s Christocentric culture and remembering that it was not homogeneous, we must recognize that it once existed, it was the ruling cultural norm. Today, such norms are indeed very different and vary greatly depending on the geographic region we have in mind and change from decade to decade. After the Renaissance, the Enlightenment, modernity and the postmodern era, we observe that what governs our cultural world today is pluralism more than anything else. But there are still some traces of Christocentrism in our culture and in what it has become during this period, namely popular culture. Among other aspects, research has focused on the analysis of one idea – that of the Christ-figure, which has come a long way from theology to culture to pop culture over the centuries. In this article, I will try to show why this complicated legacy can be seen, at least in part, as a challenge to Christianity in light of contemporary Christian philosophy.

Opis:
As far as hip-hop is concerned, it is a truism that Didier Awadi counts as one of its influential leading figures. The famous musician from Senegal takes advantage of hip-hop as a medium and participates in disseminating its values across the world. Awadi’s creativity aims at conscientising Black people whose misery, according to him, is due to an internalised negativity about themselves. The artist pursues this objective in “Dans mon rêve” by staging MLK as a historic benchmark and source of inspiration to Africans. My paper attempts to highlight why the use of hip-hop as a medium of pop culture does not effectively serve that creditable objective. I also review the provocative trope of African pop-artist as a modern griot, raised a decade ago by the United States-based scholars. Theoretically, Stuart Hall’s conception of culture and Guy Debord’s theoretical complexity in his attempt to dismantle the monopoly of the spectacle inform the study.
Koncepcja kultury Stuarta Halla i teoria Guya Deborda stanowią podstawę niniejszych badań.
