    The essay describes the Polish episode in the 1918–20 influenza pandemic, situating the occurrence in the European and international context, and covering some relevant research issues. The topic is introduced by a brief discussion of the most recent hypotheses regarding the genesis of the pandemic and how it related to the World War in its declining phase. The core section, discussing the situation in Poland, begins with a description of the civilisation crisis caused by the frontline recurring across the country and the policies pursued by the occupational powers and the tough sanitary conditions implied by these developments. A survey of accessible sources is preceded by an outlined reconstruction of the course of the epidemic in various areas of the country, delineation of its timeframe, description of the symptoms and of the responses to the disease, attempts made to prevent its dissemination, and treatment methods in use at the time. The author seeks to determine the basic figures such as the morbidity and mortality rates, as compared against the data available for the other countries. In conclusion, considered are the presumed reasons behind the disappearance of the ‘Spanish flu’ epidemic experience from Polish collective memory.

    This article presents issues relating to the uniforms of the Polish Army during the wars of 1918–21 in the context of the severe economic and epidemic crisis plaguing both the country and the region. Drawing on the accounts of participants and eyewitnesses of the war, and also by making recourse to the largely unpublished documents of the Sanitary Headquarters of the Polish Army Command-in-Chief, I look at the causes, scale and effects of the severe shortage of uniforms and equipment – shortages that would beset and plague Polish soldiers. The second part of the article presents institutional, top-down attempts to improve the situation involving substantial foreign procurements. Asking whether the crisis was ever truly resolved, the findings here offer ultimately a negative assessment of what ultimately transpired. The article’s final section indicates the relationship between the catastrophic situation regarding supplies and the threats posed by the Spanish flu and typhus.

    The pa per pres ents the anal y sis of the II Un der ground Line con struc tion’s im pact on the War saw Scarp with the use of the elec tri cal re sis tiv ity im ag ing (ERI, also known as the elec tri cal re sis tiv ity to mog ra phy) and fur ther to tal sta tion posi tion mea sure ments. The un der ground passes un der the scarp per pen dic u lar in the area of Dynasy Street 6, in Downtown dis trict. The elec tri cal re sis tiv ity im ag ing was per formed for rec og ni tion of the geo log i cal struc ture and a potential land slide sur face or zone. The gra di ent sys tem was used dur ing the prospection. In these anal y ses, the lon gi tu di nal sec tion was 40 m long, and the depth of sur vey amounted to 6 m. In the case of the 200 m long trans verse sec tion, there sulted depth of sur vey was 30 m. The geo phys i cal im age of the lon gi tu di nal sec tion, does not con tain loos en ing soil zones, which could in di cate slip sur face. Next, to tal sta tion mea sure ments, which were tied to the ar chi val geo detic obser va tions’ re sults, were car ried out. The aim of the mea sure ments was to ver ify the ac tiv ity of the hor i zon tal and verti cal dis place ments. The TBM ex ca va tion pro cess led to sum mary ver ti cal dis place ments up to approx. 24 mm and hor i zon tal dis place ments amount ing to approx. 13 mm. To sum up, the cur rent land sur veys re veals mi nor un der ground line’s con struc tion im pact on the scarp dis place ment. Nev er the less, the sen si tive ur ban en vi ron ment re quires fur ther mon i tor ing, es pe cially that the op er a tion loads can re sult in dis place ment rate change.

    The article shows the results of geophysical surveys performed by using Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) method on se lected ragion of P³ock slope of a Tumski hill near Ba sil ica of As sump tion of the Blessed Vir gin Mary in P³ock and in Maszewo by the Vistula River a few ki lo me ters north of P³ock. The above-men tioned sec tions were se - lected due to land slide phe nom ena ob served there. Geo phys i cal sur veys were con ducted in or der to ver ify the state of the dis tri bu tion of elec tri cal re sis tiv ity in the sec tors where mass move ment was iden ti fied. The electrofusion crosssec tion near Ca the dral Ba sil ica shows clays and sands. Also in ERT prospection a zone of loose soils with high re sis - tance is clearly vis i ble. The re sults of the ERT method from Maszewo, in di cates his tor i cal land sur face of a land slide and that the slope in Maszewo con sists of co he sive de pos its. In or der to de scribe these par tic u lar is sues, geo log i cal cross-sec tions and safety fac tor ob tained by cal cu la tion are pre sented for the an a lyzed parts of the slope. The safety factor shows that prob a bil ity of land slide ac tiv ity near Ca the dral Ba sil ica is very un likely and in Maszewo is very high.
