The article is an interpretation study of two lyric poems by Adam Mickiewicz (Drzewo and [Wsłuchać się w szum wód głuchy...], 1842). It grows out of an analysis of a lost manuscript and the history of the above-mentioned poems’ editions (including commentaries), as well as the notebook romanticism [romantyzm brulionowy] concept developed by the author. This concept encapsulates the inedita and creates a separate sphere in the epoch’s literary art and aesthetics.

The article attempts to outline Adam Mickiewicz’s concept of subjectivity. He introduces it in his visionary poetic drama Dziady (Forefathers’ Eve) where a radically ambivalent situation is presented through the duality of the main character Gustaw/Konrad. The article describes this duality in terms of Paul Ricoeur’s distinction between cogito exalté and cogito brisé. In Dziady Mickiewicz dramatizes the transition from exaltation to dejection, the condition of cogito brisé (living with a wound). His romantic subject cannot throw away his past, but because he is acutely aware of his failings and his inadequacy he is able to free himself from delusions of grandeur and self-centered pride. The condition of uncertainty, inadequacy and chronic insatiability is like a gaping wound or a lack which may lead the ‘I’ to open up and seek the Other. It is a vision of man who knows he is deeply fl awed but capable of pursuing a noble desire; vulnerable and fallible, beset by ‘endless error’ and yet able to act and get his act together; self-centered and yet, because of the relational nature of the human identity, capable of redirecting his emancipatory energy to Others. It can be summed up the concept of homo capax (homme capable) which, as this article argues, provides the key to Mickiewicz’s anthropology.

Flow fields could be of great interest in the study of sound propagation in aeroengines. For ducts with rigid boundaries, the fluid-resonant category may contribute significantly to unwanted noise. An understanding of the multi-modal propagation of acoustic waves in ducts is of practical interest for use in the control of noise in, for example, aero-engines, automotive exhaust and heating or ventilation systems. The purpose of our experiments was to test the acoustic energy transmission of duct modes based on studies carried out by the sound intensity technique. Sound intensity patterns in circular duct are discussed of modal energy analysis with particular reference to proper orthogonal decomposition and dynamic mode decomposition. The authors try to justify some advantages of the sound intensity experimental research in this area. In the paper, the wide-band sound signal propagated from source approximated with loudspeaker in hard-walled duct is imaged using a sound intensity – based approach. For a simple duct geometry, the sound intensity field is examined visually and by performing a modal decomposition greater insight into the acoustic structures is obtained. The image of sound intensity fields below and above “cut-off” frequency region are found to compare acoustic modes which might resonate in duct.

This article attempts to formulate a new interpretation of the mysterious messianic character marked "Forty and Four" from the Vision of Priest Piotr in Adam Mickiewicz's poetic drama Dziady (Forefathers' Eve), Part III. After a review of earlier readings of this crux and its symbolism, the author of the article presents his own proposal, which contextualizes the enigmatic number in three historical frameworks. The first of them is ancient history, and, more specifically, 'Forty four' is seen as a reference to the Ides of March in 44 B.C., the date on which Julius Caesar was assassinated by a group of conspirators led by Brutus. The other two relevant contexts are the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution, and the high tides of modern history culminating in tyrannicide. In effect, the 'Forty four' passage is seen as an affirmation or even a sacralization of tyrannicide, symbolized by not only by inexplicit references to Brutus and the Israelite heroine Judith. It is a theme which reverberates not only in Dziady but also throughout Adam Mickiewicz's work.

Oba pojęcia - błędny przekład i sukces literacki - dalekie są od klarowności i jednoznaczności, co z jednej strony prowadzi do rozmaitych ograniczeń, ale i do potencjalnie odkrywczych nowych odczytań z drugiej. Co więcej, różnica między przekładem a błędnym przekładem nie jest łatwa do ustalenia (zwłaszcza w przypadku poezji), podobnie jak trudne jest wymierzenie sukcesu literackiego. Oprócz świadectw recepcji pozostają nam przede wszystkim kryteria estetyczne w cenie zarówno sukcesu literackiego, jak i - do pewnego stopnia - udatności przekładu. Aby przedyskutować te nieostre, ale połączone z sobą pojęcia, sięgam do trzech przypadków. Najpierw skupiam się na dwóch niewątpliwych przykładach błędnego przekładu i sukcesu literackiego, aby wskazać możliwe (i niemożliwe) kryteria oceny obu zjawisk. Następnie przechodzę do konkretnego przypadku (błędnego) tłumaczenia i sukcesu literackiego (Romantyczność Mickiewicza w wersji Audena), aby nieco inaczej naświetlić omawiane zagadnienia. Wreszcie konfrontuję szczegółowo analizowany przekład z innym, pozornie podobnym (Dzieci epoki Szymborskiej w przekładzie Bassnett i Kuhiwczaka), ale dającym odmienny efekt końcowy. W zakończeniu wskazuję, na czym może polegać różnica w ocenie błędności lub poprawności przekładu i jego sukcesu czytelniczego.  
Both of the concepts - mistranslation and literary success - are far from being clear and unambiguous, which leads to various limitations on the one hand, but also to potentially beneficial new readings on the other. Moreover, the difference between a translation and a mistranslation is not an easy one to assess (particularly when poetry is concerned) just like any literary success is difficult to measure. Apart from evidence such as reception, we are left mostly with aesthetic criteria when assessing a literary success and, to some extent, also the successfulness of any translation. In order to discuss such unclear but deeply intertwined issues, I look into three matters. Firstly, I draw attention to two undeniable examples of both mistranslation and literary success to point out possible (and impossible) criteria of both phenomena. Secondly, I proceed to a particular case of a (mis)translation and literary success (Auden’s version of Mickiewicz’s “Romantyczność”), to shed some more light on the issues in question. In the end, I confront the case with another seemingly similar one (Bassnett & Kuhiwczak’s rendition of Szymborska’s “Dzieci epoki”), yet resulting in a different outcome. At the end I point out where, in my opinion, lies a difference in assessing a particular (mis)translation and its literary success.

Noise propagation within ducts is of practical concern in many areas of industrial processes where a fluid has to be transported in piping systems. The paper presents experimental data and visualization of flow in the vicinity of an abrupt change in cross-section of a circular duct and on obstacles inside where the acoustic wave generates nonlinear separated flow and vortex fields. For noise produced by flow wave of low Mach number, laminar and turbulent flows are studied us- ing experimental sound intensity (SI) and laser particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique adopted to acoustics (A-PIV). The emphasis is put on the development and application of these methods for better understanding of noise generation inside the acoustic ducts with different cross-sections. The intensity distribution inside duct is produced by the action of the sum of modal pressures on the sum of modal particle velocities. However, acoustic field is extremely complicated because pressures in non-propagating (cut-off) modes cooperate with particle velocities in propagating modes, and vice versa. The discrete frequency sound is strongly influenced by the transmission of higher order modes in the duct. By under- standing the mechanism of energy in the sound channels and pipes we can find the best solution to noise abatement technology. In the paper, numerous methods of visualization illustrate the vortex flow as an acoustic velocity or sound intensity stream which can be presented graphically. Diffraction and scattering phenomena occurring inside and around the open-end of the acoustic duct are shown.

Opis:
The necessity of a positioning service for various ground handling assets is key to improving airport performance. Reported in this article is a system named “Ground Eye”, designed to be a test of a possible implementation of the independent LTE-based communication system and GNSS-based location services. The test campaign used a total of nine prototype devices for a period of one month at Gdańsk airport (Poland). The main goal of this demonstration was to verify the possibility of using the GNSS/LTE system as a fast-deployment option in the airport environment, as well as to evaluate its positioning and communication capabilities in conjunction with React.JS/Deck.GL/Node.JS dedicated application. The test campaign verified that even with simple processing and relatively simple single-frequency measurements, multi-constellation GNSS receivers, it is possible to obtain location with precision reaching better than 2.5 metres. This precision should be good enough for all ground handling operations at modern airports, without the need for additional fixed infrastructure.

The shedding process and acoustic flow formation in the region of outlet of a cylinder duct has been investigated by means of the particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique. The research work on the behavior of the sound field at outlets of waveguides addresses issues of importance to industrial applications. The obtained results can be used in a number of industrial applications involving pipes, ducts and tubing. In our investigation the acoustics flow fields are measured with a phase-locked PIV system with high sampling rate and large internal memory block using DAVIS v. 8.11 software. A cross-correlation method, in conjunction with the FFT analysis, is used as a vector processing algorithm. A series of PIV vector maps was used to evaluate the acoustic velocity field at the open end of circular tube throughout the acoustic cycle for frequencies of 700 Hz and 1400 Hz. Six phase steps were assumed for one frequency cycle and the characteristic signal was extracted from the velocity data step and shown graphically.
