Opis:
The demand for cobalt has increased significantly in recent years due to its use in a wide variety of products and processes. Cobalt and nickel often accompany each other in nature and close physicochemical properties of both metals make their separation a complicated practical problem. Organophosphorous extractants have been widely used to separate cobalt from nickel. This paper presents the preliminary results obtained for separation of cobalt from nickel using Cyanex 272 containing supported liquid membranes prepared by a novel ultrasound-assisted method. The results show that this novel supported liquid membrane preparation method leads to higher separation factors than those described in the literature under similar separation conditions.

Opis:
The church of Santa Ana in Moratalaz, Madrid, Spain (1965–1971), is an emblematic work of the architect Miguel Fisac. In his long career include interventions in the religious field, constituting one of the most important contributions to Spanish religious architecture of the last century. This church is a singular place of worship and architecturally significant, in which the acoustics played an important role in the configuration of the spatiality of the church. This paper studies the acoustic behaviour of the church and its relationship with its unique structural, spatial and coating material characteristics. The analysis of the current acoustic conditions, with high reverberation times (up to 6 seconds) and poor intelligibility on the audience, serve as the basis for making an acoustic rehabilitation proposal that contributes to improving the sound conditions of the building for the intended use, without distorting the spatial, formal and material aspects with which the architect conceived the project.

Opis:
The church of Santa Cruz de Oleiros, Spain (1967) shows architect Miguel Fisac’s perception of sacred space after the Second Vatican Council. In this place of worship, the architect responded to the new liturgical guidelines combining geometry and architectural forms with the material of the moment, concrete. However, ordinary religious celebrations reveal acoustic deficiencies for the main use of the building. This fact is corroborated by acoustic measurements in situ. With a methodology that uses simulation techniques for the sound field, the analysis of the current acoustic behaviour of the room will serve as the basis for an acoustic rehabilitation proposal aimed at improving the acoustic conditions and so, the functionality of the church.

Opis:
The most important diseases that cause loss of productivity in all areas of pepper production in the world and the limitation of cultivation are Phytophthora crown blight of pepper (Phytophthora capsici Leon.). The disease is a soil borne pathogen, and its challenge is difficult. Selection of varieties resistant to diseases of soil-borne plant pathogens is the most efficient, economical and sustainable method. In this study, the resistance of Phytophthora crown blight (Phytophthora capsici Leon.) disease on 95 pepper genotype in terms of yield and some quality characteristics was investigated by using SCAR marker (OpD04.717). In the study, pepper lines in 7 pepper genotype F2 population showed durability band at 717 bp of agarose gel, while 88 pepper genotype were found to be sensitive. As a result of molecular studies, 7 pepper genotype resistant to Phytophthora capsici Leon. were also confirmed by classical test using seedling immersion method. In the study, as a result of molecular and classical tests, Phytophthora capsici Leon. is determined to be resistant to pepper lines in the hybridization programs to obtain new varieties and will be used as a parent or father will contribute to improvement studies.

Opis:
Obesity is defined as abnormal or excessive body fat accumulation that may have negative effects on health. Healthy diet induces a balance of gut microbiota, helping in turn to combat this metabolic disorder. Amaranth is well known because of its beneficial properties on health, but its effects on microbiota profile are still unknown. The aim of this study was to analyse the changes of gut microbiota in diet-induced obese mice due to amaranth protein consumption and to compare them with the changes due to soybean protein intake. Male C57BL/6 mice were fed for 8 weeks with regular (RD) or high-fat (HF) diet, without or with complementation with amaranth or soybean protein isolates. Morphological changes in caecum ultrathin sections were measured after hematoxylin/eosin staining. Microbiota was isolated from the caecum and 16S rRNA gene was sequenced. Caecal Short Chain Fatty Acids (SCFAs) were quantified by gas chromatography. The consumption of soybean protein induced the ectopic deposition of fat in the whole intestine while amaranth proteins increased caecal crypt depth and calceiform cells number sustaining its beneficial effect on health. The count of Ruminococcacea family bacteria was increased in mice fed with HF diet, but amaranth proteins intake reduced its abundance. In turn, Lachnospiraceae bacteria abundance decreased in mice fed the Control-HF and amaranth HF diets, but increased in mice fed the soybean diets. In mice fed the RD diets, amaranth induced the abundance of Prevotellaceae, an acetate-producing bacteria. Study results indicate that the modulation of caecal microbiota could be one of the mechanisms by which amaranth exerts its beneficial effects on health.
