Opis:
The classical mathematical programming problem used for the determination of a production plan maximising total income or profit is complemented with a second objective, concerning the makespan of the products being manufactured on two machines. As a result, a bicriterial integer linear programming problem is obtained, which can be solved by means of classical methods. A computational example is presented and discussed.

Opis:
A stability concept for the open shop schedule is proposed. The underlying aim is to protect an organisation against serious problems caused by accumulation of delays in various processes realised in the organisation at the same time. The stability criterion is coupled with that of schedule makespan minimisation. Buffers are used as a tool of ensuring schedule stability. A fuzzy model determining the optimal schedule with respect to both criteria is formulated based on expert opinions as to the desired buffer size and the desired planned makespan. The model is expressed as a mixed integer linear programming model. The approach is illustrated by means of an example.

Opis:
In the paper a new approach to goal programming is presented: the robust approach, applied so far to a single-objective linear programming. It is a "pessimistic" approach, meant to find a solution which will be reasonably good even in a bad case, but it is based on the assumption that almost never everything goes bad - the decision maker can control and simulate the pessimistic aspect of the decision situation. The pessimism refers here to uncertain coefficients in the goal functions. It is assumed that in each case only a certain number of them can take on unfavourable values - but we do not know which ones. A robust solution, i.e. the one which will be good even in the most pessimistic case among those considered to be possible - is determined, using only the linear programming methods.

Opis:
A dynamic, interactive approach to the control of a project’s realization time is proposed. The duration time of the project’s activities is assumed to depend on certain factors whose influence may change in time. Based on the project’s history up to a certain moment, the change in influence of these factors has been evaluated and estimates of the duration of activities which have not been started yet are updated. The estimates of the duration time of the activities and project are expressed in the form of fuzzy numbers. This allows us to keep a constant track of the risk of the project not keeping the deadline and to be aware of which factors influence delays, thus where to act in order to minimize the final delay while it is not yet too late – in the course of the project’s realization, as early as possible.

Opis:
The authors present modifications of the optimization model for selecting project risk response strategies proposed by Zhang and Fan. The weaknesses of the original model has been identified and an improved model with the main suggestions has been proposed. The main improvement concerned the objective function. The modified model was tested using a real project in the electrical industry – engineering and construction of the main low voltage switchboard for a live fish carrier (Helix Q7000) in Norway. Project team members report that the analysis is time consuming but results are satisfying – the model allows more systematic and efficient risk management.

Opis:
Agile methods for project management are often treated as methods for mitigating risk. However, there is disagreement as to whether explicit methods of risk management should be used in projects which are executed according to Agile methodology or is the implicit risk management built into Agile methodologies sufficient. To contribute to the discussion, an attempt has been made to identify risks that are either caused by the introduction of an Agile methodology to a project or become more significant when such methodology is in use. If such risks exist, this would be evidence that explicit risk management is required, even in the case of Agile methodologies. The results of this research may be useful for any organization that is in the process of selecting a methodology for project management and is considering Agile methodologies.

Opis:
The cash flows of an investment project are influenced by several factors. All the factors influencing fuzzy net present value of a project should be taken into account, together with their variability, in order to analyze the whole project, and to make the best decisions during the project’s life. In this paper a fuzzy global sensitivity analysis method is proposed for fuzzy net present value to determine the influences of the factors on the worth of an investment project. The results of the proposed method for an application are also interpreted.

Opis:
The presented paper is an attempt to evaluate the application of different buffer sizing methods (within the critical chain approach) to a real-life project, in order to show that it is important to choose consciously one of the existing methods. The implementation of the different approaches to the buffer sizing procedure resulted in eight unique schedules. Once all the methods were implemented, the authors of this paper stumbled upon 2 inconveniences (slack vs. buffer, splitting up buffers). Funding solution for these handicaps caused obtaining eight more schedules. In order to evaluate all the determined solutions, the authors decided to establish a simulation study. A random dataset was generated of 2000 observations using the mean and variance calculated for the probability distribution determined by three possible durations (optimistic, expected and pessimistic) given by the project team members. To validate the performance of different methods, two penalty systems were designed. The test results indicate which specific buffer sizing technique performs best in the presented case, taking into account the attitude of the decision maker. The simulation study is the proposal of a method to be applied in each case of the critical chain method application, because it makes the use of the critical chain method more effective.

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis

rituximab
Opis:
Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is a rare disease involving multiple organs and systems, characterized by necrotizing inflammation of small and medium-sized vessels and formation of granulomas. There are several forms of the disease. In the generalized form (including severe one), cyclophosphamide in combination with steroids is usually used. There are also cases of a particularly severe and refractory course of the disease, which do not respond to the standard treatment. In such cases some other methods of treatment are recommended, including biological agents such as rituximab - anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody. We described a case of a 17-year-old patient with refractory GPA, resistant to standard remission induction therapy. In case of this patient, advanced lesions were mainly localized in the lungs, sinuses and middle ear. The disease progressed despite standard therapy. Therefore, it was decided to use an alternative treatment with a biological agent – rituximab. In the assessment after therapy we observed a significant clinical recovery as well as the improvement in laboratory tests, pulmonary function tests and radiological imaging. Within six months after the administration of rituximab, progression of the disease was not observed, which was evidenced in radiological imaging and pulmonary function tests. The case illustrates how biological agents, including rituximab, are extending the therapeutic options for patients with GPA, especially with severe forms of the disease.

The procedure is described and illustrated by means of a real- -world case study.
