Opis:
In order to study the rotational features induced by evaporating water several laboratory experiments were conducted with airborne rotary detection discs made of absorbent cotton wool and ultralight polyurethane foam discs. Measurements indicated that water vapor develops and transits into the air an upwardly directed counterclockwise rotary motion in the Northern Hemisphere, and a clockwise motion in the Southern Hemisphere. Additionally, measurements of the thermal structure of the air/water interface indicated that evaporating water may gather rotational momentum in the warmer subsurface layer. The conducted observations suggest that the process of water evaporation may be based on the grouping of some coherently spiraling molecules in the liquid phase. The interacting molecules combine their partial rotational momentums, thus allowing the top molecule to transit via the surface tension microlayer and become airborne. At the moment of evaporation, the gathered rotational energy is taken over by the free bi-hydrogen rotor-arm of the evaporating molecule that starts to revolve. Next, the water vapor-induced rotational share of the kinetic energy is likely to be redistributed among other gaseous molecules and transferred into heat (during condensation) that further energizes the airborne convective loops. In order to confirm the rotary effects induced by water vapor, several field experiments were conducted with airborne rotary detection ribbons in the Northern Hemisphere. The observations confirmed that a more enhanced counterclockwise spiraling motion of air is found with air currents under atmospheric lows of a higher relative humidity, while weaker and clockwise directed rotary dominates under atmospheric highs.

Opis:
The study is aimed to investigate the properties of auditory-based features for audio change point detection process. In the performed analysis, two popular techniques have been used: a metric-based approach and the ∆BIC scheme. The efficiency of the change point detection process depends on the type and size of the feature space. Therefore, we have compared two auditory-based feature sets (MFCC and GTEAD) in both change point detection schemes. We have proposed a new technique based on multiscale analysis to determine the content change in the audio data. The comparison of the two typical change point detection techniques with two different feature spaces has been performed on the set of acoustical scenes with single change point. As the results show, the accuracy of the detected positions depends on the feature type, feature space dimensionality, detection technique and the type of audio data. In case of the ∆BIC approach, the better accuracy has been obtained for MFCC feature space in the most cases. However, the change point detection with this feature results in a lower detection ratio in comparison to the GTEAD feature. Using the same criteria as for ∆BIC, the proposed multiscale metric-based technique has been executed. In such case, the use of the GTEAD feature space has led to better accuracy. We have shown that the proposed multiscale change point detection scheme is competitive to the ∆BIC scheme with the MFCC feature space.

Opis:
In this paper a novel definition and understanding of colour correlogram has been proposed. The proposed colour correlogram generalizes the spatial graylevel dependency matrix (SGLDM) to the case of colour textures. This generalization is based on perceptual colour difference measure expressed in the language of the CIELab colour space components. Application of the colour difference instead of arbitrary colour indices or colour components themselves allows to avoid colour-shuffling palletization and introduction of multidimensional objects, respectively; the proposed perceptual colour correlogram is a single 2D matrix. At the same time, a simple relation of the proposed colour correlogram to the spatial graylevel dependency matrix for graylevel textures is retained. Based on this relation it will be shown that there exists a vector of statistical features built from the perceptual colour correlogram which can be used to describe textures in perceptual terms. These statistical features and their abovementioned perceptual interpretation generalize Haralick concepts derived for the SGLDM.

The aim of this work is the experimental study of the weight loss impact on the properties of flying objects. Work is hased on the results of resonance tests of the helicopter, gliders and military aircraft. In the presented flying objeets group the possible occurrence of weight losses during the flight are up to 50%. The paper posed the following questions: How big can be, in practice, the weight loss during the flight? To which resonance the mass loss has the greatest impact? How and by what rules the map of resonances changes? Does in the process of weight loss there are other, worth-knowing events? Gliders, airplanes and a helicopter were investigated in the Resonance Test Laboratory of Institute of Aviation. The author has organized and for over 20 years led the Resonance Test Laboratory at the Institute of Aviation, in which he made or directed the investigations of dozens of aircraft, gliders, helicopters and their elements and components. Effect of weight loss on the flying objeets properties is one of several ,,unusual" research topics phenomena, which the author observed during a standard resonance tests. Opis:
Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) products are now often used to study the terrain due to their numerous advantages such as relatively low cost and ease of data collection. The ISOK project (pl: Informatyczny System Osłony Kraju – national hazard protection information system) developed elevation data for about 65% of the Polish territory. Parallel to the airborne laser scanning point cloud collection, additional products, such as orthophotomaps, digital terrain models (DTM), and digital surface models (DSM) were created. This resource is not only a reference material for the project, but also a valuable source of the analysis used in various fields of economy and science. Important features of the ISOK-data are the availability and their standardized format based on uniform technical conditions. The article presents the results of an experiment in which an attempt was made to use the digital elevation model with a resolution of 1 m based on airborne laser scanning data to determine concave terrain features using GIS tools. The ISOK-DTM has a height accuracy of 0.15 m for the outdoor areas, which makes it a better representation of small terrain forms than previous products. The research area is located at an undeveloped open ground with comparatively little variation of its shape for a long period. Several methods were tested to classify the terrain shape based of topographic attributes. Those methods led to similar locations of the concave features and further on coincide with results of the pre-analysis. Also, attention was drawn to the selection of the analysis parameters and their influence on the result. The results show the usefulness of ISOK’s DTM for locating field concave terrain shapes.

Opis:
An automatic analysis of product reviews requires deep understanding of the natural language text by machine. The limitation of bag-of-words (BoW) model is that a large amount of word relation information from the original sentence is lost and the word order is ignored. Higher-order-N-grams also fail to capture the long-range dependency relations and word order information. To address these issues, syntactic features extracted from the dependency relations can be used for machine learning based document-level sentiment classification. Generalization of syntactic dependency features and negation handling is used to achieve more accurate classification. Further to reduce the huge dimensionality of the feature space, feature selection methods based on information gain (IG) and weighted frequency and odds (WFO) are used. A supervised feature weighting scheme called delta term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) is also employed to boost the importance of discriminative features using the observed uneven distribution of features between the two classes. Experimental results show the effectiveness of generalized syntactic dependency features over standard features for sentiment classification using Boolean multinomial naive Bayes (BMNB) classifier.

Opis:
Despite the fact, that dense SLAM systems are extensively developed and are getting popular, feature based ones still have many advantages over them. One of the most important matters in sparse systems are features. The performance and robustness of a system depends strictly on the quality of constraints imposed by feature observations and reliable matching between measurements and features. To improve those two aspects, higher-level features can be used, and planes are a natural choice. We tackle the problem of plugging planes into the g2o optimization framework with two distinct plane representations: one based on a properly stated SE(3) parametrization and one based on a minimal parametrization analogous to quaternions. Proposed solutions were implemented as extensions to the g2o framework and experiments that verify them were conducted using simulation. We provide a comparison of performance under various conditions that emphasized differences.

Firstly, the origin and the background of the division of music genres were shortly presented. Then, several objective parameters of an audio signal were recalled that have an easy interpretation in the context of perceptual relevance. Within the study parameter values were extracted from music excerpts, gathered and compared to determine to what extent they are similar within the songs of the same performer or samples representing the same piece.

Among the main factors that affect residential mobility, satisfaction of households from their living environment and dwelling is outstanding since it covers most of the related variables. The extent to which households expectations are met by their residential environment depends on the socioeconomic features matching the physical and spatial qualities of their living environment. This paper aims to contribute to theory and practice concerning residential satisfaction in housing through an assessment of the Göktürk residential neighbourhood and its housing, and its relationship to households’ residential mobility. Göktürk, which is located in the northwestern periphery of Istanbul, is a significant residential area, with the majority of its inhabitants live in houses with luxury lifestyle while other households are living in informal settlements with the lowest quality of housing and neighbourhood. In the first section of this paper, an overview of the residential texture of the Göktürk neighbourhood is discussed. Following this, the methodology and analysis of findings covering 210 households’ views living in two main segments in terms of their socio-economic characteristics are reviewed. Finally, the physical features of neighbourhood such as housing and status of its quality are discussed to explore the overall satisfaction of respondents with their current situation. The importance of this research is that, in this area, two income groups of households which are very different from each other are living side by side. The major findings reveal that most households are satisfied with the quality of neighbourhood while a significant number of high-income households are dissatisfied with the environmental quality of neighbourhood and are satisfied with their housing, whereas some middle- and upper-class households are dissatisfied with their housing. It should be noticed that low-income households continue to admit that they are satisfied with their homes, despite the fact that they are living in squatter settlements, indicating that they do not want to lose their houses even with the least level of quality.

Agricultural production has a number of special features which essentially distinguish it from other sectors of national economy (industry, building industry, trade, etc.) The general regularities often prevail very specifically. The agricultural production is performed in open areas, exposed to the force of nature, closely connected to the land. The land has a primary role in farming, and a major part of expenditures are utilised through arable land. The natural and economic attributes of arable land and the inseparably related climate conditions substantially determine the method and success of farming. Farming specialties often require special accounting solutions which can also be found in the case of agricultural enterprises. The objective of the present paper is to examine the assessment procedures in regard to agricultural enterprises which can be applied in the case of fixed assets.

This article concerns a key topic in the field of visual object recognition – the use of features. Object recognition algorithms typically rely on a fixed vector of pre-selected features extracted from 2D or 3D scenes, which are then analyzed with various classification techniques. On the other hand, the activation of particular features in biological vision systems is hierarchical and data-driven. To achieve a deeper understanding of the subject, we have introduced several mathematical tools to estimate multiple RGB-D features’ relevance for different object recognition tasks and conducted statistical experiments involving our database of high quality 3D point clouds. From the thorough analysis of the obtained results we draw conclusions that may be useful to design better, more adaptive object recognition algorithms.

The paper describes features of landscape boundaries in the lowland landscape of Poland and verifies their cross-scale properties. The diversity of lithology, morphometry and land use was taken into account by delimitation of the boundaries. A scale of 1:50 000 was set as the basis. Three structural features (length, contrast and sinuosity) and two functional features (permeability and stability) were examined. The boundaries within the research area are typically of average length, low sinuosity, high permeability and low stability. A high correspondence between the diversity of abiotic components and land use is observed, resulting in a large number of high-contrast boundaries. However, this feature does not necessarily mean that these patterns are cross scale and can be applied at a higher level of landscape hierarchy. A geochemical/typological and regional order has been explored to describe properties of landscape boundaries for different spatial scales. Only the first of the listed orders corresponds to diversification of boundary features.

This research aimed at testing multiple fitness hypothesis of attraction, investigating relationship between male facial characteristic and female students' reported readiness to engage in various social relations. A total of 27 male photos were evaluated on five dimensions on a seven-point Likert-type scale ranging from -3 to 3, by convenient sample of 90 female students of University of Sarajevo. The dimensions were: desirable to date – not desirable to date; desirable to marry – not desirable to marry; desirable to have sex with – not desirable to have sex with; desirable to be a friend – not desirable to be a friend; attractive - not attractive. Facial metric measurements of facial features such as distance between the eyes, smile width and height were performed using AutoCad. The results indicate that only smile width positively correlates with desirability of establishing friendship, whilst none of the other characteristics correlates with any of the other dimensions. This leads to the conclusion that motivation to establish various social relations cannot be reduced to mere physical appearance, mainly facial features, but many other variables yet to be investigated.

Opis:
Part of the Oxfordian carbonate buildups in the southern part of the Kraków Upland is developed as pseudonodular limestones, which represent segment reefs. These limestones are composed of connected, rounded-oval to subangular carbonate pseudonodules. The pseudonodules, densely packed within the limestone, fall out easily under mechanical stress. The recently observed texture of pseudonodular limestones resulted from two stages of chemical compaction. During the first stage, in the Late Jurassic, high-amplitude and low-amplitude stylolites and dissolution seams were formed. The sites particularly favourable for the development of high-amplitude stylolites were the boundaries between already lithified fragments of the laminar, rigid microbial-sponge framework. The low-amplitude stylolites formed mainly in the intercalated wackestone-packstone, which was lithified somewhat later; hence, the dissolution seams originated at the contacts between the rigid microbial-sponge framework and the wackestonepackstone. After Early Cretaceous erosion, which decreased the burial load, Late Cretaceous sedimentation enabled the renewal of pressure dissolution. Thus, some low-amplitude stylolites evolved into dissolution seams. In stylolites composed of both low- and high-amplitude segments, dissolution proceeded at the bases of interpenetrating high-amplitude stylolite columns, with the simultaneous transformation of low-amplitude stylolite segments into dissolution seams. These seams, which formed at the initial stage of chemical compaction, were subjected in turn to further pressure dissolution, giving rise to the formation of horsetail structures. The vertical stress field, which triggered the pressure dissolution processes, presumably resulted in the formation of high-angle and vertical incipient tension gashes. At the beginning of the processes, these gashes remained closed. In the Cenozoic, under the extensional regime generated by overthrusting Carpathian flysch nappes, some high-angle and vertical dissolution seams and low-amplitude stylolites opened up, forming deformed dissolution seams and deformed stylolites. Under the same conditions, the high-angle and vertical tension gashes opened up as well. Subsequently, during the exposure period, unloading fractures developed, partly as a result of the opening of some subhorizontal and horizontal dissolution seams and stylolites. The unloading fractures, along with the already existing vertical and high-angle tension gashes, formed the network changing the limestone into pseudonodules of various shapes and sizes. The open spaces between the limestone fragments became local conduits for karst waters.
