The concept of conscience is analyzed here in two different ways: the systematic and the historical-literary. As to the first, systematic perspective, I distinguish (in part 1) three levels of conscience and on every level I identify two opposite categories (conscience that is ‛individual’ versus ‛collective’; ‛emotional’ versus ‛intellectual’; ‛motivating ex ante’ versus ‛evaluating ex post’). In the second, historical-literary perspective, I analyze two literary cases of fictional characters usually thought of as being guided or affected by conscience. The first case is the ancient Greek tragedy and here I offer (in part 2) a comment on the Sophoclean Antigone and the Euripidean Orestes presenting them both as dramas that contain an exemplary formulation of the phenomenon of conscience. Although Antigone and Orestes express their main principles of action in apparently different words, I suggest (in part 3) the two poetical visions of conscience are equally based upon a highly emotional behavior called pathos by the Greek. Thereby I provide a reason, why ancient philosophers created a new concept of conscience intended as an alternative to the poetical vision of human behavior. The new philosophical concept of conscience was based upon an axiological behavior called ethos. I also coin (in part 4) a concept of the ‛community of conscience’ where I distinguish four ‛aspects of solidarity’ in conscience, namely, somebody’s own self, a group of significant persons, a group of the same moral principles, and a sameness of life. In the end I turn (in part 5) to a historical-literary case in Joseph Conrad’s last novel The Rover (1923), which provoked a lively discussion among Polish authors and seems useful as an illustration of several levels of ‛solidarity of conscience’.

Hermeneutyka Ramanudży (1075-1140?), indyjskiego filozofa i teologa, głównego teoretyka odłamu wedanty wiśisztadwajta, opiera się na intrygującym splocie interpretacji języka i rzeczywistości przezeń przedstawionej. W tym splocie kategorie ontologiczne wspierają interpretację treści indyjskiego objawienia (śruti), a samo objawienie jest jedynym nośnikiem prawdy o strukturze rzeczywistości transcendentnej oraz jej relacji do świata. Ramanudża jest hermeneutą, lecz jego hermeneutyka ma określony cel, to jest rozumienie i rozumiejącą interpretację objawienia, które pozwala urzeczywistnić najważniejszy cel ludzkiego życia, a mianowicie duchowe wyzwolenie. W odkrywaniu sensusspiritualis indyjskiego objawienia Ramanudża operuje swoistą „ontologią rozumienia”, sterującą antycypacją i odkrywaniem tego sensu.

The legal understanding of labour exploitation is a grey area. This paper will first outline some of the obstacles in international and regional law and jurisprudence, as to the understanding of exploitation in the context of human trafficking, slavery, servitude and forced labour. Secondly, taking into account recent law reforms in both Belgium and England & Wales, this paper will outline some of the key features that have emerged from the judicial handling of labour exploitation in criminal cases. Drawing on the findings from empirical analysis of criminal cases between 2010-2017 as part of doctoral research, this paper will first of all outline similarities, differences and challenges to ensuring a clear understanding of the meaning of labour exploitation in the context of human trafficking. The findings will provide insight into how to strengthen a harmonised and robust response to human trafficking.

W niniejszym artykule po pierwsze zostały przedstawione niektóre przeszkody, wynikające z prawa czy orzecznictwa na poziomie międzynarodowym oraz regionalnym, które utrudniają zrozumienie takich zagadnień jak wykorzystanie w kontekście handlu ludźmi, niewolnictwa, poddaństwa czy pracy przymusowej. Po drugie zaś, zostały omówione kluczowe wnioski, jakie wynikają z badania akt spraw karnych dotyczących wykorzystania pracowników do pracy, które przedstawiono przy uwzględnieniu ostatnich reform prawa mających miejsce w Belgii oraz Anglii i Walii. Badania empiryczne objęły lata 2010-2017 i zostały przeprowadzone w ramach badań doktorskich. W artykule pokazano przede wszystkim podobieństwa, różnice i wyzwania odnośnie do opracowania jasnej i zrozumiałej definicji pojęcia wykorzystania do pracy w kontekście handlu ludźmi. Wyniki tych analiz pozwolą zrozumieć, w jaki sposób należy wzmocnić zharmonizowaną i zdecydowaną reakcję na zjawisko handlu ludźmi.

Suche zapalenie spojówek i rogówki u zwierząt (KCS) powstaje na skutek zubożonej produkcji łez, co skutkuje ich niedoborem. Choroba objawia się wysuszeniem powierzchni oka. Oko jest zaczerwienione, zwierzę odczuwa świąd. Pojawiają się na powierzchni rogówki keratopatie. Schorzenie występuje u psów, kotów a nawet koni. W miarę trwania choroby, wokół oczu na powierzchni powiek, odkłada się ropna wydzielina. Istnieje wiele przyczyn powodujących taki stan. Głównie są to zaburzenia natury immunologicznej, wady wrodzone, urazy, reakcje polekowe, infekcje wirusowe oraz zaburzenia hormonalne. Rozpoznanie choroby odbywa się za pomocą testu łzowego Schirmera (STT). Leczenie polega na podawaniu preparatów nawilżających oko oraz leków stymulujących produkcję łez (cyclosporyna A, tacrolimus). W przypadku, gdy leczenie takie nie przynosi oczekiwanych rezultatów, można zastosować zabieg transpozycji przewodu ślinianki.
Keratoconjunctivitis sicca – KCS- “dry eye” is due to an aqueous tear deficiency. This results in persistent, mucopurulent conjunctivitis and corneal ulceration and scaring. KCS occurs in dogs, cats and horses. With time, some of the mucous can build up around the eye, becoming dry and crusty. As the conditions progresses, the cornea becomes invaded with blood vessels, scarred and pigmented. There are a number of possible causes i.e. autoimmune, congenital, trauma, drug reactions, viral infections and hormone imbalance. Dry eye is diagnosed with a Schirmer tear test. Therapy consists of artificial tear solutions, ointment and antibiotic combinations. Lacrimogenics such as topical cyclosporine A or tacrolimus may increase tear productions. In chronic KCS refractory to medical therapy, parotid duct transpostion is indicated.

Here, we show that rather uniform 7 nm Co nanocrystals self-organize into long-range two- and three-dimensional superlattices. Due to this ability we have to control the mesoscopic ordering; unexpected intrinsic collective chemical and physical properties have been discovered. By annealing treatment, a crystallographic transition from a polycrystalline fcc- to single crystalline hcp-Co phase is obtained leading to a drastic change in the magnetic properties such as an increase in the blocking temperature that can reach a value close to room temperature. Neither coalescence between nanocrystals nor oxidation of the Co material is observed. In these artificial solids, when the individual nanocrystal anisotropy is low, super-spin glass behavior is observed.

The dynamics of the methane, methyl, and carbon dioxide adsorption to the (001) surface of cubic magnesium oxide (periclase) has been studied within the ab initio molecular dynamics in the temperature range between 0 and 1000 K. For methane, neither chemisorption nor physisorption has been observed in the considered temperature range, whereas methyl group and carbon dioxide build chemical bond to the MgO surface at temperatures 350 K and 450 K, with adhesive energies of 0.218 and 0.935 eV, respectively.

On the off chance that methods which reduce the global CO2 content are unavailable and inefficient, the increasing CO2 levels will lead to a synchronized rise in temperature across the world. The conversion of this abundant CO2 into hydrocarbons like CH4, CH3OH, CO, HCOOH and hydrogen fuel using different techniques and their use for power could assist with the world’s energy deficiency and solve the CO2 reduction-energy nexus. In this study, photocatalytic CO2 conversion by sunlight will be of primary focus since this bears a resemblance with the regular photosynthesis phenomenon. This work also portrays the writings that have narrated the development of mixtures of two or more carbon ions (C2 ̧) within the photocatalytic reduction of CO2. This paper thus comprises the energy required for CO2 photoreduction, the kinetics mechanisms and thermodynamics requirements. The reaction of CO with water and the hydrogenation of CO2 are covered to understand the gap of Gibb’s free energy between both of the reactions. Likewise, the summary of different metal-based co-catalysts, metal-free co-catalysts and their selectivity towards CO2 reduction by photocatalysis and reduction of CO2 into various hydrocarbons, fuel and materials have also been examined.

Objectives: The official food safety system in Poland is divided between a number of specialised inspection bodies. The effective implementation of the entire inspection and supervision process requires multi-direction co-operation. The aim of the study presented was the identification of the barriers to and boundaries of the inter-organisational cooperation between the inspection bodies involved in the official food safety process. Research Design & Methods: Qualitative research methods: analysis of organisational documentation, industry reports, post-audit reports and in-depth interviews with employees of five inspection bodies. Findings: The co-operation between the inspection bodies should be multi-threaded and multi-lateral. In fact, the mechanisms that encourage co-operation are relatively weak and there are numerous barriers between them. The lack of the inter-organisational co-operation is caused by various factors: cultural, social, political, legal, and organisational norms and values. The key source of the barriers is the fragmentary perception of the food safety supervision process by employees, which results from the lack of a systematic approach to this process. The employees of the inspection bodies perceive the remaining inspections as external entities and not co-workers taking part in a common process aimed at common good. Implications/Recommendations: This article suggests some policy implications. The evolutionary solutions may include measures to eliminate the differences between inter-organisational co-operation postulated in legal regulations and real practices. The revolutionary activities may consist of building a comprehensive system of official food safety which will lead to consistent supervision over the entire food chain, and not only over the individual stages thereof. The construction of such a system may require changes in the number and the scope of tasks of the existing inspections. Contribution/Value Added: The inter-organisational co-operation problems as part of the official food safety process are not specific to only the system in Poland: similar difficulties are found in many countries. Therefore these research findings have potentially wide application.

The article analyses how Elizabeth Strout shows the effect of belonging to a certain social class on characters in Anything Is Possible. It is argued that the location on the social ladder leaves an imprint on them that is difficult, if not impossible, to change. Similarities are drawn between Strout’s collection of stories and fiction called spectacle realism, a term coined by Joseph Dewey to describe a trend in the American literature of the Reagan’s era.

Autorka dowodzi, że umiejscowienie na drabinie społecznej w trwały sposób wpływa na bohaterów tej prozy. Przeanalizowane są też podobieństwa między zbiorem opowiadań Elizabeth Strout a prozą określaną w języku angielskim jako spectaclerealism. Jest to termin ukuty przez Josepha Deweya na określenie jednego z trendów w literaturze amerykańskiej czasów Reagana.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of the article is to present a comparative analysis of selected European countries’ legal regulations for issues concerning a child’s right to co- and self-determination when those who care for them (under parental responsibility, custody, legal guardianship, etc.) make decisions about their personal life. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research problem concerns whether a child can co-decide or independently make decisions in matters concerning their person or property and, if so, what the scope of this right is. In investigating these questions, the authors used the theoretical and dogmatic legal method as well as the method of analysis (and synthesis) of relevant legal provisions of selected European countries. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: In their analysis of the provisions in force in the in- ternal legislation of selected European countries (Germany, Norway, Poland, Sweden and the Netherlands), the authors present the adopted legal solutions for regulating issues related to rights that a child is entitled to when making decisions about their personal life and the responsibilities of parents caring for a child. RESEARCH RESULTS: The legislation of each of the five selected countries gives a child under the care of parents the right to co-determination/self-determination when making decisions about their personal life, although there are noticeable differences between individual national systems. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Due to the editorial limitations on the length of the article, the authors have limited the analysis to the legislation of five selected European countries and to a general analysis of national laws regulating the research problem. In the longer term, a more in-depth analysis of such provisions seems justified. It also would be interesting to analyze the legal solutions in force in other countries, both European and non-European.
CEL NAUKOWY: Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie analizy porównawczej unormowań prawnych wybranych krajów europejskich regulujących kwestie dotyczące prawa dziecka do współdecydowania/samostanowienia przy podejmowaniu decyzji dotyczących jego życia osobistego przez osoby sprawujące nad nim opiekę (w postaci władzy rodzicielskiej, odpowiedzialności rodzicielskiej, opieki prawnej itp.). PROBLEM I METODY BADAWCZE: Przedstawiony problem badawczy dotyczy odpowiedzi na pytania: Czy dziecko może współdecydować/samodzielnie podejmować decyzje w sprawach dotyczących jego osoby lub majątku? A jeśli tak, jak kształtuje się zakres tego prawa? Poszukując odpowiedzi na powyższe pytania, autorzy zastosowali metodę teoretyczno- i dogmatyczno-prawną oraz metodę analizy (i syntezy) adekwatnych przepisów prawnych wybranych krajów europejskich. PROCES WYWODU: Analizując przepisy obowiązujące w ustawodawstwie wewnętrznym wybranych państw europejskich (Niemcy, Norwegia, Polska, Szwecja, Holandia), autorzy przedstawili przyjęte rozwiązania prawne regulujące kwestie związane z zakresem uprawnień przysługujących dzieciom przy podejmowaniu decyzji dotyczących ich życia osobistego oraz zakresem obowiązków rodziców sprawujących opiekę nad dzieckiem. WYNIKI ANALIZY NAUKOWEJ: Ustawodawstwo każdego z pięciu omówionych państw przyznaje dziecku pozostającemu pod opieką rodziców prawo do współdecydowania/samostanowienia przy podejmowaniu decyzji dotyczących jego życia osobistego, przy czym zauważalne są odrębności między poszczególnymi systemami krajowymi. WNIOSKI, INNOWACJE, REKOMENDACJE: Ze względu na wymogi redakcyjne dotyczące objętości artykułu autorzy ograniczyli analizę regulacji prawnych do ustawodawstw wybranych pięciu krajów europejskich oraz do ogólnej analizy przepisów krajowych regulujących omawiany problem badawczy. W dalszej perspektywie zasadna wydaje się wnikliwsza analiza przywołanych przepisów prawnych. Interesująca wydaje się również analiza rozwiązań prawnych obowiązujących w innych krajach, tak europejskich, jak i tych spoza naszego kręgu kulturowego.

The article presents a general approach to logistics network design for logistics system of Poland in aspect of co-modality. The main tasks realized by this network and its functions in cargo flow were defined. Special attention was paid to transport co-modality. Starting from the concept of co-modality the main principles for a national logistics network were defined.

Artykuł "To, co nadchodzi: odmieńcze pożądanie i ciało społeczne" jest próbą przeformułowania idei społeczności (sociality) za pomocą aparatu pojęciowego zaproponowanego przez Deleuze'a/Guattariego, a zwłaszcza ich koncepcji pożądania jako podstawowej siły produkującej to, co społeczne. Pożądanie jest w artykule zdefiniowane jako odmieńcza tendencja do powstawania nowych formacji i podmiotowości w polu społecznym. Tej tendencji przeciwstawiony jest "popęd śmierci", który dąży do utrwalania (ossyfikacji) istniejących esencjalizujących się tożsamości, nabierających cech "przeznaczenia". W tym ujęciu odmieńczość byłaby samym procesem namnażania się różnicy, natomiast jednym z istotnych zadań teorii queer byłoby uważne obserwowanie tego, co dopiero "wyłania się" na horyzoncie praktyk społecznych. Nie odrzucając tego, co istnieje, queer skłania się w stronę tego, co nadchodzi. Traktując podejrzliwie wszelkie inwestycje w instytucjonalność i społeczną użyteczność, teoria queer powinna raczej skupiać się na tym, co (jeszcze) niespołeczne, co wirtualne, co niezaprzężone w rozliczne funkcjonalności organów/organizmów/organizacji. Deprywatyzacja / uspołecznienie pożądania, jego "de-edypalizacja", może być jednym ze sposobów wyjścia poza obecną konfigurację władzy, w której głównymi aktorami są indywidualistyczny i konsumpcjonistyczny neoliberalizm oraz autorytarny neokonserwatyzm. To, co społeczne, da się pomyśleć (za Hardtem i Negrim) jako niedający się okiełznać "cielesny" żywioł, w którym możliwe stają się nowe, nieprzewidziane połączenia i "asamblaże", nowe zbiorowości zespolone podług innych niż dotychczasowe parametrów przynależności. Umożliwiając nowe przepływy pożądania, queer destabilizuje każde rzekomo skończone, zamknięte i zunifikowane pole społeczne, zorganizowane w indywidualną tożsamość, w rodzinę, w społeczeństwo, w elektorat. Żadne takie "grodzenie" tego, co społeczne, nie jest nigdy do końca skuteczne: coś zawsze umyka - po to, aby mogło wyłonić się coś innego.

The European Commission highlights that creating shared values and democratic citizenship is a today’s requirement to answer challenges of urbanization in Europe. The awareness about the necessity of inclusion of vulnerable groups such as elderly or migrants is still a substantial deficit in research on inclusion. As a matter of principle, future cannot be forecasted. The most effective way to foresee future is to jointly shape it! The Participatory Citizen-Foresight offers a neutral transformation-room and multi-method coordination-framework for detecting accessible and tacit-knowledge for change. In co-creation citizens, experts and Civil-Servants gain insights into complex interdependencies allowing mutual learning and behavior in rehearsal for transition. Society is in need of powerful, collective pictures serving self-confidence and self-responsibility of citizens. First, we describe the specific, participatory-foresight approach. Second, we highlight preconditions for learning and societal change based on constructivism and brain research. Third, we show how this can work in reality by shortly outlining two Citizen-Foresight cases with elderlies and, fourth, we derive selection-criteria for methods aiming at transforming mental images, maps and behaviour.
